Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Last Bit Of Wealth
Once inside, Ivy stopped a man and asked,
"Do you know where the Nightbanes live?"
The man stared at Ivy in confusion before shaking his head. "I don’t know who Nightbanes are."
Ivy’s heart sank when she heard the man’s words. Did the guy named Jordan lie to her?
Maybe he had mistaken someone else for Felix? Or was he lying all along? Or maybe... her parents had moved away.
Silas could sense that Ivy was spiraling out. He took her hand and squeezed it gently
"Calm down."
Ivy gave him a forced smile and nodded, yet her heart was in turmoil.
"Let’s go. Many here are refugees; they won’t know the Nightbane like the back of their hand." Silas pointed it out. His deep, soothing voice seemed to calm the anxiety, because Ivy’s eyes lit up the next second.
"Yes! You are right. Let’s go," Ivy muttered. Her heart was pounding in delight, and she started to drive her scooter toward her destination.
The sound of the engine roaring echoed in the bustling city, drenched in the stench of human waste. However, to Ivy, nothing was important other than her family.
She stopped many people along the way and asked the same question again and again till she met a woman with cascading black hair and emerald green eyes.
"Hello, do you know about the Nightbanes?" Ivy asked, and the green-eyed lady who was strolling with her friends froze as if she had heard someone say that she had grown a tail.
Her friend paused for a brief moment before replying in a hurried tone.
"We do know, but we don’t know where they live. But Ophelia could tell you."
With that, they nudged Ophelia with their elbows.
Who couldn’t see? Ivy and Silas, who were neatly dressed and were even driving a scooty looking relaxed as if they were strolling, looked like rich tourists.
Anyone who helps them will receive some food, right?
Hence, they didn’t want to miss out on such a good opportunity and motioned to Ophelia.
"That... why do you want to go to the Nightbane family?" Ophelia asked in a tentative voice; on a closer look, there was a hint of probing in her eyes.
Even though she didn’t showcase any particular emotions, Ivy and Silas were best at reading others emotion and understood that something was amiss.
They exchanged a glance before Ivy broke out in a polite smile.
"We will give 500 grams of rice as a reward; do the reasons still need to be told?"
"Yes." Ophelia ignored the temptation and stated with a firm expression, her heart was filled with caution.
"Well... you see, I am their long-lost daughter. I traveled from miles away with the 500 grams of rice as my last bit of wealth. I want to acknowledge my parents, especially considering the circumstances of the apocalypse. Ivy’s nonchalant voice seemed to have hammered the heart of all the girls present.
They all thought that they had encountered a nouveau riche person when the reality they were just another pauper.
In an instant, all of them lost interest and turned toward Ophelia, advising her in a calm voice, "Just tell her the address and take the last bit of value. She can offer"
"Yes, I feel like I might get heatstroke if I continue to stand under such a scorching sun." One of them chimed in while wiping away the sweat.
Ophelia adjusted the hat she was wearing and stared at Ivy with a narrowed gaze. Her mind was full of calculation.
’Hm... While we are sweating buckets, this girl is looking perfectly fine and even seems much more energetic than us. From nowhere, she resembles a young woman who has suffered and is here to seek refuge. Instead, she looked like a celebrity doing a house tour.’
With that thought, Ophelia opened her mouth to question her when she heard the sounds of a roaring engine.
"Since you can’t answer, I will ask someone else." Ivy calmly stated. She had even built a lie in the hopes of getting the address of her parents quickly, but from Ophelia’s attitude, it was clear that she wouldn’t tell everything easily.
So why waste her time?
This time, Ophelia was the one who panicked and immediately tried to stop Ivy. "I will tell, but you will have to give 1 kg of rice."
"No." Ivy shook her head with a firm expression, "I only have 500 grams of rice. And now I have decided to find them on my own by contacting the base leader."
With that, she started the engine.
"I will tell you, alright? Just give it to me!" Ophelia yelled; her voice was laced with raw desperation.
"Alright." Ivy seemed reluctant and retrieved a small bag of rice from under the seat of the scooty before getting back on, while Silas did the same.
In reality, Ivy had taken out the bag from temporal storage.
The moment Ophelia and her friends saw that there was indeed only one packet, they all felt disappointed. Unless either Silas or Ivy is a space element user, they can both be labeled as poor.
"Just go straight for 250 meters, take a left turn, and the poorest hut you can see... is where the Nightbanes live." Ophelia snorted with a look of disdain in her eyes.
Ivy didn’t continue to linger. She wasn’t interested in anyone apart from her parents. Just as she was about to leave, though, Ophelia muttered under her breath,
"Hm! She is a mutt! Just like her family."
The roar of engines started, and this time, instead of directly leaving, she skidded the scooty so that the dust on the ground launched itself on Ophelia.
Sure enough, she heard Ophelia scream and yell.
"Shit! What’s this! Eww! You! Look what you have done."
Ivy smirked, rolled her eyes, and, showing her middle finger she left, making Ophelia and her group stunned.
"Bitch! What a bitch! I will take compensation from the Nightbane family for her rude behavior soon!" Ophelia shouted.
