Chapter 240: Wall Scammer

Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Wall Scammer

"Let him be." Ember interrupted, her eyes were devoid of any emotions, but her heart was throbbing painfully.

It took everything in her not to break down and cry. If she dares to show any weakness... her parents might kneel to Brenda and beg for forgiveness.

Such was her parents’ love.

Felix slowly moved his hand away, tucked the phone back in his pocket, and walked up to Brenda. Taking out a handkerchief from his pocket, he wrapped it around Brenda’s hand and dragged her outside.

By now, Brenda had fallen unconscious and let Felix drag her out. Her neat clothes were tainted by the dust on the ground, and her head lulled a few times, yet Felix remained merciless.

After reaching outside, he continued to drag her, as the dust and stone, like sharp glass, stabbed at Brenda.

Throwing her at a distance, Felix left. All the way, he whistled and thought in his mind,

’The next time that witch thinks about insulting our parents again, she will think ten times!’

On returning home, what greeted him was some kind of celebration; instead, the gloom in the house dripped like the sweat dripping down their foreheads due to the heat.

Felix felt a scrape in his throat when he gulped. Maybe it was because they were recently avoiding drinking more than 2 glasses of water; he always felt thirsty.

Ignoring the burning sensation in his throat, he forced a smile and asked his parent, seated on the sofa,

"Why do you look so pale? Ember has made her decision! And by the way... where is she?"

The silence that followed his question was deafening.

Just when Felix thought no one would answer him, Kael’s deep, calm, and steady voice echoed,

"She wanted to clear her mind and left."

"Ahh... okay," Felix replied in an awkward voice. Even though they were pretty united as a family, there were moments when even he didn’t know what to say.

"Let’s try to talk to Jay privately." Victor’s deep voice cut through the silence lingering in the atmosphere.

The heat waves seeping from the cracks of the window and ceiling made the Nightbane feel itchy and dirty, and yet that wasn’t their primary concern.

Kael and Helena nodded in agreement. While Felix pursed his lips tightly, he wondered what might happen to the secret plan that Ember and Jay had made.

.......................................

Ivy and Silas departed for the Fortis base. The journey was pretty simple, and it took them only five hours.

Once at the entrance, Ivy and Silas were used to the scene.

Because of Ivy’s safe zone power, Silas and she hardly felt the heat, while the refugees and beggars lingering outside the Fortis base were sweating buckets!

The moment they saw Ivy and Silas arriving on a scooter, they all exchanged a look unanimously and soon formed a human wall.

"Eh?" Surprised by the strange formation and the evil smirks on the people forming a circle, Silas frowned. "What’s going on?"

Ivy, however, remained calm.

’Hey... just our luck, we encountered the legendary Wall Scam.’

She leaned backward and explained,

"They are Wall scammers. They will encircle us until we either faint from the heat or hand over our food to them. The guards will demand extra food in case we ask for their help, since logically we haven’t entered the base yet, and these people will quote a lower food amount, making all those who are about to be scammed feel that it would be better to pay a small amount and get away."

Silas’s frown deepened.

He glanced around, counting at least fifteen people surrounding them.

Most were men with dry lips and wild eyes, their clothes dirty and torn.

"Can’t we just drive through them?" he asked quietly.

Ivy shook her head.

"If we try to escape, they’ll throw stones. And if we fight, the base guards might blame us instead."

Silas clenched his jaw; his eyes turned fierce. He didn’t ask dumb questions like, ’What should we do next?’ Instead, he waved his hand, and the next second, a wave of lightning bolted from the sky right at the ground, scaring the ’human wall’ for a second.

All the people quickly withdrew their hands in fear and retreated, and Ivy, seeing the opportunity, drove straight toward the entrance.

The close call to death ignited the anger in the human wall scammers, and they shouted while lying on the ground.

"Murder! Murder! Someone is committing murder!"

Ivy ignored their calling and reached the base entrance. She waved her hand, to bags of 1 kg of rice appeared.

"Here." Her voice was laced with urgency, and just as she was about to drive, the guard stopped her.

His eyes roved over Ivy, and he smirked.

"What’s the rush? Let me weigh it properly."

"Sure, we will wait inside, and you can weigh it however you want." Ivy didn’t back down and responded with a polite smile.

"We can’t let anyone in before the rice is counted," the guard interrupted, crossing his arms with a smug grin.

Silas’s hand twitched. He could tell this guard wasn’t doing his job; it was about squeezing more food out of people like them.

"Ah? Is that so? Once we enter and complain to the base leader, would he let you off for the extortion you are trying to run? Hm?" Ivy asked with a faint smile.

The smug smile on the guard’s face slipped. His expression turned grim while he slowly withdrew his hand.

Ivy pursed her lips, but in her heart, she was thinking,

’Old foggy, do you think you will help the scammer, and I will let you do so? If I do so, then my name won’t be Ivy! And the decade-long experience I have of the apocalypse will be nothing more than waste!’

The refugees and beggars who had caught up with Ivy froze when they saw the guard letting Ivy in.

Their face’s darkened while the leader of the refugees muttered under his breath.

"We will take revenge later."
