Chapter 1564: Chapter 1564: Willing Captive

Changing it to a birthday is feasible too; just a slight adjustment in the number sequence, and it would still be hard for others to guess.

Gavin Graves was about to agree when he suddenly realized that the birthday he knew was Madison Richards’, not Cherry’s.

"Cherry, when is your birthday?"

Cherry was taken aback.

Seeing her dazed, Gavin was stunned too...

A birthday is a person’s date of birth, but Cherry was never born... So, she doesn’t have a birthday.

Cherry pouted and sat back down silently.

Gavin thought for a moment, took her hand, and pulled her over.

"What’s up?" Cherry asked with a fierce tone.

"We can set a fingerprint password. I’ll input your fingerprint, so even if you forget the numbers, you can still open it."

Gavin operated a few buttons, placed Cherry’s hand on it, repeated three times, and a notification sound came from the system—

"Alright, give it a try." Gavin released her hand.

Cherry gave him a confused look, hesitated for a moment, and then placed her finger on it.

Beep—

The safe door opened.

Her eyes widened slightly, unable to believe it was so easy. She slowly opened the heavy metal door, revealing some documents inside...

No dagger.

How could this be...

This morning, she had followed him secretly, saw him take the dagger into the study, and heard the safe open, the metal object placed inside, and then the safe being closed.

Why isn’t it there?

Gavin gently caressed her hair, speaking softly, "Satisfied now? You can put things inside from now on too."

Cherry said nothing.

She stared blankly at the safe’s contents, more clearly aware than ever that he had been guarding against her all along.

"Alright, go transcribe the scriptures." Gavin closed the safe door, guided her back to the table, and arranged the brush, ink, paper, and inkstone one by one. "Clarity, the taoist priest, instructed that it be transcribed every day. Your previous mistakes were numerous; you’ll have to start over..."

Cherry hesitated to begin, her thoughts lingering on the missing dagger, unable to focus on transcribing.

Seeing her daydreaming, Gavin chuckled, leaned in to kiss the back of her hand, and said, "Now that your hand’s working better, start writing, and don’t make spelling mistakes again."

Cherry snapped back to reality, her gaze settling on the man’s face in front of her...

He was very handsome, not the striking allure of a Summers Family man, but the kind that grew more appealing the longer you looked, especially when he was gentle, considerate, and deeply affectionate, capable of capturing even the most ferocious prey’s heart.

"What if I read the wrong line or mispronounce a word?" Cherry whined, "Would you need to kiss my eyes and lips then too?"

Gavin laughed and said, "I should kiss your brain."

"Are you calling me stupid?!" Cherry angrily got up and pounced at Gavin, baring her teeth and claws!

...

A few days later, Gavin opened the safe to get an important document.

His hand reached in and touched something moist and soft. He was startled and quickly withdrew his hand, looked closer, and saw worms coiled around the document folder...

They were fresh, likely placed there not long ago.

Gavin took a deep breath, suppressing his nausea, went to the bathroom to wash his hands, then came out to confront Cherry, but she was nowhere to be seen. Finally, looking through the bedroom window, he saw Cherry in the garden outside.

She was squatting by the flower bed, digging dirt, with a small bucket next to her.

Gavin couldn’t endure any longer, opened the window, and shouted loudly, "Cherry!"

Cherry was so frightened she shivered all over, dropped the bucket, and nimbly ran away.

Gavin held his forehead in exasperation, wondering what was wrong with her again. It seemed he hadn’t upset her lately...
