Chapter 451: Umbralight Pearl?

Chapter 451: Umbralight Pearl?

Collapsing into a puddle of water, Lillian soon reformed while scratching the back of her head, still thinking back to how the plasmatic leviathan heads were dispersed so easily.

They were so powerful the first time she used them, able to deal severe damage to the Jungle Lord, but the fact that their durability was probably no higher than glass was concerning.

’They’re basically glass cannons...’

Lillian spun back on her heel and looked towards the Jungle Lord, who had survived the fall with minimal injuries.

She stroked her chin for a bit, gazing at the Jungle Lord’s current form before looking back.

The exit that was far behind them was big enough for the Jungle Lord’s original form.

Bending down to the corpse of the Umbralight Drake, Lillian attached a Parasitic Line to its deceased body before connecting it to the Jungle Lord.

Once doing that, and allowing the Wendigo to passively regenerate its flesh, Lillian pulled out her short sword and stabbed it into the side of the Drake’s body.

She couldn’t help but feel her victory over the Drake was a rather easy one.

Could this be a testament to her growth in strength, or could it be because she now had a capable ally of immense power with her?

Lillian tilted her head left-to-right, wondering before concluding:

’Probably both.’

After piercing through the basalt scales of the Umbralight Drake, Lillian quickly took a step back, grimacing as the organs of the draconic beast spilt out.

She then pinched her nose, retching at the smell of potent sulfur that smelled like rotten eggs left out in the sun.

Lillian took a step around and slowly moved the organs around with her sword, trying to get a deeper look inside as though she were a newbie surgeon opening up her first patient.

There was a certain that could be found within this type of monster, the Umbralight Pearl, which acted as a sort of purifier for the darkness and impurities within its body.

It also still held its effects when crushed into a fine powder.

Lillian, finding nothing inside its digestive system, carved upwards to its throat and eventually made contact with something hard that wasn’t a bone.

Fortunately, it wasn’t damaged.

The unfortunate part, though...

Lillian held a hand over her nose, ’It reeks so bad...’

Stepping away, the girl slowly looked towards the Jungle Lord, who tilted his head at her—he had grown considerably in the time she was looking away.

He had already reached her height, maybe even more.

She gave a wry smile as she gestured towards the basketball-sized pearl hidden inside the throat sac of the Drake.

Lillian was hoping the Jungle Lord would understand what she was asking of it.

Luckily, it did.

After retrieving the Umbralight Pearl and swiftly storing it within her spatial ring, the two made their way towards the exit.

Lillian, holding her lantern out, looked around at the walls along the inside of the tunnel, finding them to be etched with several carvings of stories.

Large avians, a ferocious beast with wings, and lastly a chimera in the form of a manticore...

They were all the previous Cliff Lords.

While their shape and impression varied from one another, the key similarities they had in each etched illustration were that they were surrounded by the kobolds that worshipped the Cliff God.

Unlike the Jungle Lords, who killed their predecessor to receive their title, the Cliff Lords didn’t.

While they did engage in a trial of combat, that would be all, for the loser of the duel would instead be exiled from the island.

These battles were, of course, intensely detailed on the walls.

The deeper they ventured forward, the fainter the sounds of loud thuds and explosions echoed towards them.

This...

Didn’t this sound like something you would hear from an intense fight?

’The Captain already engaged with the Cliff Lord!’

Unwilling to miss out on the exciting battle of the Cliff Lord versus the Captain, Lillian leapt into the Jungle Lord’s arms and gestured towards the exit of the tunnel.

The Wendigo, who had already grown to its maximum height right before they left, looked down at Lillian before gazing forward.

Then, with a swift stomp—

Thump!

—Dashed forward with blurring speed.

SWOOSH.

They sped down the dark tunnel like a bullet train, the steps of the Jungle Lord echoing throughout as they eventually arrived outside.

The Jungle Lord stopped instantly, freezing in place as the wind behind it thrusted out from the cave. Lillian shivered slightly from the cold as she fixed her hair, which had become a mess due to how fast they were going.

After that, she lowered herself to the ground while thanking the Jungle Lord for his speedy movements.

She took a momentary glance around.

They stood on a small, moss-covered cliff that led nowhere but a hundred metres down. The entire geography of the island was supernatural, especially within the three zones on the island.

Lillian, looking down at the trees and running river below, hummed a bit as she looked to her right. Fortunately, there truly was a way besides falling off.

What she was looking at was a steep path down that would eventually take her to the Cliff temple, which... Was a few kilometres away from their current location.

Lillian squinted her eyes, narrowing on the temple far off into the distance before yawning a bit and rubbing her eyes.

’I think... I think I’m getting a bit tired...’

After her yawn, she looked up towards the night and the starry sky and appreciated its beauty.

She also noticed a few of the stars above seemingly "staring down" at her.

Lillian hummed a bit at this before glancing towards the hanging silver moon in the dark sky.

She trailed her eyes over its curved and smooth surface, untouched by the humans of this world, unlike her last.

However, it still remained damaged, far worse compared to her old world. It wasn’t by threats outside this world’s reach like asteroids, but...

By the Gods themselves.

Cracks, fractures, and even shattered pieces lingered around the moon, gathering into a dusty ring as they spun around it—a piece of damage left behind from the Celestial War.

And one of the many that held a major impact on this world’s current Epoch.

Lillian scratched the side of her head, wondering if she should take the correct way around to the Temple or not...

’I don’t really have to, actually...’

Although she didn’t have any items that would allow her to fly, Lillian was still able to create solid platforms out of water.

With the speed of the Jungle Lord and her quick timing, she was sure they would be able to arrive there shortly.

Nodding to herself, Lillian couldn’t help but admire her ingenuity.

As she was about to hop back on the Jungle Lord, a deafening boom echoed in the sky.

Both she and the Jungle Lord twisted their heads towards the sky and found two unfamiliar black blurs dashing through the sky before clashing in front of the moon.

BOOM.
