Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Understanding
Thump! Thump!
Silas’s heart pounded, and his ears were ringing with each beat.
Maybe even Ivy’s confession of love couldn’t measure up to what she had stated just now. It wasn’t a love confession; rather, it was the improvement in Ivy...
Before, her mind was churning with ideas of how to leave him, and now... now the very same chance was presented to her, but she? She stated that she would stay...
Heat rushed to his cheeks, while the excitement in his heart intensified. In a swift moment, Silas closed the distance between them and hugged her. It was a bone-crushing hug... as if Silas wanted to let Ivy know... know what his tongue or eyes couldn’t express.
’My pink squirrel has become so mature!’
Engulfed by the sudden warmth, Ivy blinked, her heart thudding loudly, rapidly, and sharply.
It wasn’t exactly a love confession; however, for some reason, it felt even more significant.
"Ivy... I feel like I have won...." His deep, masculine voice cracked at the end, revealing the insecurity hidden deep within his heart.
"Huh?" Ivy froze, not understanding the implication, yet her body was more honest as she returned the hug and even patted his back with her free hand.
"You... you have changed, my dear... Thank you... you don’t know just how much it means for me..." Silas’s murmurs were laced with deep satisfaction, while his voice sounded choked.
Ivy paused for a brief moment before closing her eyes in deep regret.
’I was so stupid for even pushing Silas before... instead of making up to him... I just made him suffer to the point that... now my just one sentence makes him so thrilled...’
Yet, on closer inspection, Ivy reflected on what changed her.
Maybe it was Silas’s constant support, or maybe... it was the jealousy and threat she had felt at Patricia’s arrival.
Before, she never thought that Silas could end up with someone else, but Patricia’s arrival... it shook her to the core that, for the first time after her rebirth, Ivy panicked.
From her perspective... Patricia was a mistake made by Silas, but... it was a bitter lesson too.
Not all life lessons are taught in a sweet way, and Silas was truly tired of her antics to the point that he took such a desperate step.
In their relationship, if Silas was wrong for introducing Patricia and making her feel insecure, then she was also wrong for leaving initially and behaving stubbornly.
’I fucked up... and so did he... aish! Gosh... why did I even waste 3 months before understanding my own true feelings.’ Ivy winced, and her heart throbbed painfully.
"Silas... I will say it again. I will stay by your side forever. I won’t leave you. Even if my jinx tries to harm you... I will protect you." Ivy murmured; her resolve was strengthened to the point that she vowed never to go back on her words.
Silas’s lips curved into a beaming smile, and he softly whispered, "Alright then, I will record these words in case you want to back out later."
"What? I won’t..." Ivy began to protest, but she watched in exasperation and amusement as Silas took out a recorder and placed it near her, motioning for her to speak.
"Are you serious?"
"Just as much as I love you, my love." Silas winked at her, his hand waving the record slightly.
"Fine. I, Ivy Nightbane, declare that... I will never leave Silas Blackthorn ever again in this lifetime!" Toward the end, Ivy’s voice rose a notch, causing Silas to crackle with laughter.
"Oh my god... what... Ah! What a sweet declaration. But we will have to set a punishment for whoever breaks this promise." Silas wiped away the tears of joy clinging to the corner of his eyes; his voice carried a rare trace of seriousness while he slowly straightened up.
"Hm? Then let me set it." Ivy drawled, while slowly and steadily inching toward Silas, her warm breath carried a hint of minty fragrance sprayed on Silas’s face, causing him to close his eyes in delight. "Whoever breaks the vow... can imprison the other person."
Thud! Thud!
Silas’s eyes shot open, and his eyes crashed into Ivy’s pink ones, laced with slight intoxication. His breathing hitched, and he cursed under his breath.
’Just my luck... why is seductive Ivy out?’
During their time together, Silas became accustomed to the frequent appearances of seductive Ivy, who mainly seemed to pop up to torture him.
The worst part? She appears to know him far too well.
His deepest, darkest fantasy... imprisoning Ivy. Every time Ivy pushed him away and tried to escape, his urge to imprison her grew stronger.
Now... Ivy was laying it out as a punishment.
At this point, even he was too tempted to convince Ivy to make a mistake.
"What happened? Already fantasizing about me, hm?" The soft, feminine voice was laced with tenderness, while her index finger circled on his biceps.
Silas closed his eyes in dismay when suddenly...
"Haha! Haha! Silas! You fell for it! Oh god! How naive you are!" Ivy wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes as she almost bent backward while laughing.
Yet when she received no response, her laughter died down. "Silas? Why are you silent?"
The yellow lightbulb hanging from the ceiling cast a faint shadow on Silas, making his expression obscure.
"Silas? Are you angry?"
"I am." His deep voice was devoid of any emotions, somewhere between mechanical and robotic...
Panic clawed at Ivy’s heart, and her words carried nervousness: "Silas... you are joking, right?"
The silence that followed her question was deafening. And just when the tension peaked in the room, Silas’s languid voice cut through the air.
"Of course I was." He drawled and suddenly laughed. Ivy’s jaw dropped... no... she had experienced the greatest shock of her life.
Silas never played a prank on her... well, scratch that! He pranked her today!
"Silas!" By the time Ivy realized she had been tricked, she chased him, but Silas had already left.
