Chapter 290: Two Rounds
"I am sorry?" The Mountain Man schooled his expression as he made it seem like he was confused. "What do you mean? I hope you are not insinuating I am cheating. Because being wrong about something like that-"
"You misunderstand me." Salem smiled sweetly at the man as she pulled the deck from the waiter. "I do not trust your staff. They might try to cheat on your behalf. I hope you do not mind. But since it is YOUR deck, I figured it would be best that one of us deals."
Mountain Man stared emotionlessly for a moment before smiling and waving his meaty hand. "By all means, feel free to reshuffle and deal. I understand your assumption completely." He then shot a glare at the waiter who quickly shuffled away. If she had pursued the idea of him cheating he would have shot the waiter and blamed it on the waiter. If she had left it alone he would have run all over them. This way she was no longer seen as ’just some woman’ but a competent adversary.
"I will gladly," She then waved her hand and all of the cards that had already been dealt flew back into the deck and began to get reshuffled. The deck floated in the air as it was shuffled but she slowed it to the table before she began dealing out cards.
Mountain Man began bellowing with laughter. "Impressive, so you are telekinetic nanohuman. Your brains will make quite a bit of money on the black market once you are dead. I know many people who want to research psychic powers." The man announced as he clapped his hands. "Now then all three of you came with a request for information. If you do better than me in a hand I will give you information. If I do better you will give me information. If you lose against everyone in a round you have to pull the trigger."
"Fair terms, I agree." The vampire agreed.
"Hm," The beast man deer nodded his head with a grunt, "agreed."
Salem narrowed her eyes and then shrugged, "very well. I agree as well." She finished dealing the six cards and left the deck in the middle of the table. She then looked down at them and just sorted them in a line of six. Keeping a faint eye on the others to make sure they did not cheat.
After a few minutes she sat back and focused on them. Then the vampire sat back and looked around. Next was the deer beast man. The last was Mountain Man. He looked around before nodding, "very well if we are all ready we can start with the left most card." He waited a moment before nodding again. "Flip and the highest number wins."
They all moved forward to flip their cards but Salem just used her telekinesis to flip hers. She was showing a Jack. She looked at the deer beast man who huffed, he was showing a five. Then at the vampire who looked confident and proud. He was showing a ten. She then looked at the Mountain Man who was wearing a frightening expression on his face as he looked down at his Ace. He then schooled his expression and looked around. He froze when he saw Salem’s smirking expression but otherwise he had completely lost this first hand.
He picked up his revolver and sighed as he leaned back. Pressing the barrel against his temple and then pressing on the trigger. After it clicked he slammed it on the table and looked around at them. "I suppose I need to give all of you your first bit of information." The others blinked in surprise at his nonchalance at pulling the trigger, but Salem just waited for the information she had come here for.
"First for my vampire friend." He looked at the vampire first. "The object you are looking for is located in the Woltar System." He informed him and then turned to Salem. "Your man came asking about a set of anomalies." Finally he turned to the deer beast man. "The woman you are looking for is in the Oda Empire."
He was clearly spacing out information, so he would only have to give more specific information once a few more turns pass. She glanced around at the guards who shifted nervously. Nothing to panic about yet, but they might be thinking they could get a kill order soon. There was a good chance that the Mountain Man had a temper.
He then looked around, "next hand?" He asked with a tone of excitement that was clearly more aligned with the thought of seeing them blow their own brains out. She could read his surface thoughts. Unfortunately his deeper thoughts were blocked.
"Call it." Salem told him. The other two nodded in agreement.
"Flip." Mountain Man announced.
They all flipped the cards again. The second card this time. This time, since it was an odd turn, they would be looking for the lowest cards as the winners and the highest card as the loser.
Salem flinched when she saw the king displayed as her card. She lost. She looked around at the others. The deer beast man flipped a five. The vampire flipped a seven. While the Mountain Man flipped a ten and frowned, his expression brightened up when he saw her King.
"Well it appears our female compatriot has lost. Please empty one of your chambers and I will supply the information to the others afterward." Mountain Man told her with a smile creeping up on his lip.
She had to force herself to remain emotionless as she quickly brought the barrel to the bottom of her chin and pulled the trigger. It clicked, breaking the silence and Mountain Man’s expression, as it moved to the next chamber and she set the revolver on the table.
Salem smirked and waited for Mountain Man to supply the others with the promised information. "Vampire the item is in possession of a high level mobster on one of the planets. Deer man, your woman is in the Shima System. Now then, should we move on to the next round?"
