Chapter 215: A surprise from tank.
She sat down and raised her legs, groaning in frustration. One could safeguard against everything and forget that people had loose lips that needed to be sealed. What was Craydon thinking?
And Justice Marley!! She would need to have a word with the woman about her habit of unnecessarily running her mouth. But that would have to be another time, or not at all. It didn’t seem like the kind of cross she wanted to bear in person.
Maybe Rori and Lisha could tackle it or someone from the legal department. The lawyers needed something to do other than dealing with frivolous lawsuits on the base.
It was an apocalypse, but people still wanted to sue their neighbors for reasons like playing their music too loudly. She had heard about a man being sued for repainting the wall outside his house. It happened in the second wall. His neighbors thought he was ruining the aesthetic.
Someone was being sued for putting a gnome in their window which faced the neighbor. Apparently, the neighbor thought the gnome was staring at her menacingly.
Then, there were the pet lawsuits. According to the legal office, there were plenty of those ones. Like a cat owner who was being sued because her cats hissed at the wrong dog.
In Sunshine’s opinion, this was a result of boredom. No matter how much they planned activities to occupy the resident’s time, there were still many gaps.
Sunshine sighed and took a quick glance at the time; she still had about three hours before picking up the children from their grandmother’s. The sound of the door closing told her that Cathy had left.
She checked in on Hades in the bedroom and saw that he was fast asleep. Then, she returned to the living room and entered the space. She found Tank, the construction robot hammering rods that went into the artificial moon.
"Right, I have a robot, and the children have not yet met it." She muttered.
"Good day Foreman." Tank’s mechanical voice greeted her.
Sunshine smiled at it; she was yet to get used to being called by that label. "Good day to you too Tank, please call me Sunshine." She said, wondering which gender she should attach to the robot, she settled with him.
Her gaze fell on the half of the inner structure of the artificial moon which Tank had put together. She inhaled loudly, a tinge of surprise lacing her eyes. With his speed, they would have one working moon in a week...two maximum.
"You did all this by yourself!" Sunshine touched the half of the outer shell which Tank had also assembled. It was fragile, like the shell of an egg...or glass.
The pieces had all come with dirt and cracks, having been picked from trash of another world. Tank had cleaned up as many of the pieces as he could.
"You even cleaned them!" She exclaimed.
"Yes Sunshine, cleaning is part of construction." Tank replied.
Sunshine blinked, disbelief setting in. She had left the parts out, planning to get to it another day as the darkness was still one and a half years away. Tank had surprised her by doing the work all on his own.
It seemed like he could take on more repairs and help her earn points even when she was busy with other things. This was by far the best gift the system had rewarded her.
"This is quite impressive!" Sunshine patted its metallic arm. "Good job Tank."
"Thank you, Foreman Sunshine." Tank answered without looking up at her.
She stepped away from the robot and asked the system to connect her to Bjorn. Just looking for Bjorn made her realize that she needed to connect with other potential buyers.
If someday Bjorn couldn’t be reached, wouldn’t her goods be useless?
[Host, are you planning to make another illegal trade?]
"Yes." She answered frankly.
The system hummed in acknowledgement. Sunshine sat on the work bench opposite Tank, waiting as the minutes ticked by. To pass the time, she ate marshmallows and wondered if Tank ate food or fuel. She had no idea how the robot maintained its energy.
Her eyes searched it for a charging portal of some kind, but she saw nothing. She would have to ask Tank or the system about it.
Finally, Bjorn appeared on the screen, her eyes bright with expectation.
"Sunlight, I abandoned everything I was doing as soon as I got your call." Bjorn said, voice coated with anticipation. "You are my best client, or I am your best client."
"Both can work." She answered. "Listen, I have more goods to sell to you."
Bjorn’s laughter was genuine, almost infectious. "You could not have contacted me at a better time, my customers devoured everything that you gave me last time. Many traders are asking me for a connection to my supplier....
"You cannot...." Sunshine began.
"Do not worry Sunlight, I wouldn’t tell anyone about our business. I would be making losses."
Sunshine exhaled a small sigh of relief slipping free. Much as she wanted other people to trade with, she also needed a legal license first. "I am glad that we are on the same page. I have bird meat this time.
"I hope that it is as tasty as the one you gave me last time." Bjorn said.
The system immediately transferred samples of the eagle meat.
Bjorn’s brow arched. Her enthusiasm faltered, replaced with hesitation. "What kind of bird is this? Where is it from? I do not know if my clients will like it."
Sunshine’s fingers drummed lightly on the table. "Then do not take them all, just a few pieces, let your customers taste it. If they like it, we’ll talk prices."
Bjorn’s face lit up. "Very well then, I will take a few of them."
Sunshine sent her three eagles and then Bjorn ended the call. She was not pressured about the possibility that Bjorn may not like the eagle meat. Mutant monster meat was about to become very valuable on earth.
Once superhumans discovered that mutant meat enhanced their abilities more than mutated animals, demand would skyrocket. And when it did, she would have a lot of it to trade.
There was still more time until the children came home so she checked the page: The wrench of reason. There were more clients in need of her advice, some were repetitive clients. Rows of requests filled the screen, still ridiculous like the last ones.
Most of her answers were the same, "Just buy something new" or "Throw it out."
After one hour of responding to clients, she then took on one major job which was to repair a luxury bag. The reason why it was a major job was because it paid fifteen thousand gold coins.
That was a lot of money. In fact, she thought that it was enough for that client to buy ten new bags. So, she chose the job out of curiosity. She needed to see what the luxury bag which was worth fifteen thousand gold in repairs alone looked like.
[There are more worthy jobs host. This one may not necessarily increase your skills or earn you many points. Would you like to reconsider?]
