Chapter 1570: Chapter 1570: One More Flirtatious than the Other
Joan Harry felt that the voice sounded a bit familiar and realized she was one of Sylvan Cheney’s people.
She restrained her emotions: "I’m fine. Please tell Mr. Cheney I apologize for troubling him..."
At moments like this, she knew what should and shouldn’t be said.
Jesse Rowan seemed quite satisfied with her response. The corners of his lips lifted slightly, and his eyes sparkled.
"Miss, interested in grabbing some coffee?" Jesse looked at Lilac Serval.
"Not interested," Lilac declined. "Miss Harry, I’ll ask you one more time—do you need my help? If not, I’ll have to head out to find someone."
Lilac didn’t feel much towards Joan Harry. She only knew that Joan’s father, Yacob Harry, had done something despicable to the Cheney Family.
Perhaps this young woman was unaware, but Lilac couldn’t force herself to care for Joan Harry.
The only reason she came tonight was because Sylvan Cheney had ordered her to.
She was merely following orders.
"I’ll take care of my girlfriend myself," Jesse said, smiling leisurely. "Miss, be sure to let Mr. Cheney know he doesn’t need to worry about us. If he’s bored, I recommend a great spot I just discovered when I returned to Landon. It’s called ’Stunning and Beauty.’ The Little Foxes there—one’s more enchanting than the next. Tell Mr. Cheney that one visit and he’ll know what heaven on earth feels like."
Lilac didn’t pay Jesse any mind and replied indifferently, "Miss Harry, since you’re fine, I’ll be on my way."
"I’m sorry for the trouble," Joan apologized, feeling uneasy.
Lilac had no intention of meddling in Joan Harry’s affairs.
Before coming, Sylvan Cheney had already stated that such private matters should not be taken too far.
Lilac shot a glance at Jesse Rowan and sneered coldly. "Mr. Rowan, be careful—you know overindulgence can lead to the ultimate exhaustion."
With that, she turned and walked away.
The main reason she came here was to find Little 11.
That kid had snuck off again to pick up part-time work, and this time it was at some far-flung hotel.
She had told him many times that she would cover his tuition, but he just wouldn’t let her have peace of mind.
Lilac walked towards the hotel’s sales counter.
The hotel was lively and harmonious, filled with music and dance, and brightly lit everywhere.
She hadn’t gone to the bar tonight. Originally, she wanted to chat with Little 11 while taking in the city lights. She hadn’t expected him to be out doing part-time work instead.
She knew her time in Landon wouldn’t last much longer. Once Mr. Cheney left, she would have to return to Lonton.
Though she could choose to stay in Landon, she missed her mentor and Little Chale Cheney.
Lonton was her hometown, but Landon was not.
"Little 11," Lilac called out at the section where drinks were being sold.
Immediately, a cheerful voice responded, "Sister Lilac!"
A clean-cut, handsome young man came running out, standing in stark contrast to the hotel’s extravagant atmosphere.
A year ago, he was just a high school dropout serving drinks at bars. A year later, he was in college, studying a major he genuinely liked, and he looked even more striking than before.
Lilac looked at him: "Didn’t I tell you not to take part-time jobs at places like these?"
Little 11 was still holding a bottle of alcohol, ready to crack it open.
He scratched his head and gave a sheepish smile. "Sister Lilac, I just want to earn some extra money. The pay here is good—it’s just far, takes several bus trips to get here."
"Is the pocket money I give you not enough?"
"It’s not that," he quickly shook his head. "Sister Lilac, I just don’t want to use your money anymore... I’m a guy. I need to learn to support myself first, so that I can..."
He trailed off, too embarrassed to finish his sentence.
Support himself first, so that he could take care of the person he liked.
He didn’t understand this principle before. But now, he realized he really wanted to make Lilac happy. He wanted to buy her things, give her gifts.
"What you need to focus on now is studying hard."
