Chapter 1576: Chapter 1576: Taking Her to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department
Jasmine Yale wore a sapphire blue sweater, her long, jet-black hair cascading over her shoulders.
She squatted on the grass, her small hands continuously stroking Riceball’s fluffy head. Riceball occasionally bumped its head against Jasmine, making her burst into giggles.
"Alright, enough playing around. Jasy’s heading out now." Jasmine patted it gently, "Be good and eat your food."
Riceball, sensible as ever, circled around her.
At that moment, Sylvan Cheney drove by close to the edge of the grass.
He rolled down the window. "Get in."
"Coming!" Jasmine ran over and opened the passenger side door.
The weather was warming up, and Sylvan only wore a dark gray sweater, making him seem approachable.
He was wearing sunglasses, but his gaze behind the lenses never left Jasmine’s face.
"Alright," Jasmine fastened her seatbelt, "We can drive now."
Sylvan nodded, stepping on the gas.
"Pull over at the headquarters later when we pass by. Joe Heath said he sent me a gift—it’s at the office." Jasmine said.
"..." Sylvan frowned, visibly displeased, "What, the gifts I buy you aren’t enough?"
"No, it’s different. This is his gesture of goodwill. Besides, who turns down a free gift? If you don’t like it, I’ll just sell it."
"..." Sylvan’s mouth twitched, "Do I look like I need money?"
"I’m just worried you won’t like it."
"I’m not that petty."
"..." Jasmine pressed her forehead in exasperation, staring at the sky.
Not that petty...
"He also got a gift for Chale Cheney. He said he delivered it to him personally," Jasmine added.
"..."
"Chale seemed to really like it, especially when Joe played toy airplanes with him. Chale was overjoyed. He even said..." Jasmine paused, glancing at Sylvan’s expression, "He even said he doesn’t want Dad anymore."
"Looks like someone needs a lesson," Sylvan’s expression darkened. "Brazen little rascal."
Chale’s prideful demeanor was a spitting image of Jasmine’s as a child.
"Honey," Jasmine twisted the strap of her backpack nervously, and looked at Sylvan, "Do the checkups... hurt?"
"Regular checkups won’t." Sylvan assured her, "But you should be mentally prepared. If the results come back irregular, you’ll have to keep taking medication."
"I won’t!"
"I dare you."
"..." Jasmine caved, lowering her head.
The car headed toward the hospital.
Since they had already made an appointment, Sylvan led Jasmine directly to get the basic tests done as soon as they got out of the car.
Blood work, ultrasound, EKG... Each one was checked off the list.
Jasmine looked dejectedly at the small vial of blood taken from her arm and turned to Sylvan. "Make me chicken soup when we get back, and you have to make it yourself."
Seeing Jasmine’s pouting, Sylvan pulled her into his arms. "Sure."
After finishing the routine tests, Sylvan naturally led her to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Jasmine still harbored unease about this place, so much so that her legs trembled involuntarily as she stepped inside.
The memories from years ago still lingered in her mind. Though they had faded with time, they would occasionally resurface.
When she was pregnant with the baby, she often had to visit the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Over time, the doctor became familiar with her since she looked quite young and was always alone. The doctor often thought she was a troubled girl.
Later in her pregnancy, when it became difficult for her to walk, she clenched her teeth and made the visits on her own.
One time, she almost got pushed over by another pregnant woman, but she managed to avoid harm.
Thinking back on those moments, it felt like just yesterday.
Standing here again now brought a sense of unease and wistfulness.
An older female doctor in her fifties or sixties had been prescribing her medicine.
