Chapter 56: Envoy Of The Nameless

Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Envoy Of The Nameless

Other POV

Naledi released a cold breath, everything a few kilometres around her was frozen solid. She looked at her friends, they had all reached rank 3 in the past few years.

Then she looked at her army, they’d suffered heavy casualties in this invasion of the vermin.

Her predecessors records did state they were powerful but it wasn’t until she met the real thing that she realised how powerful they actually were.

Her soldiers were struggling against them, their bone armour was incredibly strong and durable.

Even though they lacked any skills their bodies alone made them a nightmare to fight against.

The most miserable of them was Siri, her vessel could not control these things at all, even those who were much weaker than her.

And her beasts army was almost wiped out, she was only left with two beast servants and the only reason they survived is because they are rank 3 beasts.

The rest of her beast army was gone alongside 30 percente of the settlements army. The settlement had grown much larger in the past few years.

The population had grown to hundreds of thousands, partially due to rescuing more people but it was mostly because the reproductive rate of normal humans had become much higher.

Even before awakening humans are much stronger and healthier than those from the old world and with each wave they grow stronger.

Women could bear childbirth even without any professional help and be good enough to run a marathon 10 minutes later.

On top of her government actively encouraging people to have children to the point of paying those with more children , some couples had 5 to 10 kids.

And the settlement itself was nolonger surrounded by wooden walls but walls of steel and stone hundreds of metres tall, not that it mattered.

All of that defence was rendered useless when the space rift opened inside the settlement itself and the army reacted too late.

There were casualties amongst the civilians. Naledi sighed, she knew she couldn’t save every life but it still left a bitter taste in her mouth especially since she promised she would protect them.

She looked around the battlefield, houses were demolished and corpses littered the ground, vermin and human alike.

The vermin army was defeated but she knew it wasn’t over, she turned her attention to the still pulsing space rift. If Ved was here he would be surprised because this rift was significantly smaller than the one they faced.

She could feel something lurking behind the dark void, something powerful and she frowned.

Then two hands stretched out of the rift, they grabbed the sides and pulled the rift apart, before she could react space shattered like glass and the rift widened.

What came out was a 4 metres tall red giant with three eyes, two normal eyes and a single white eye on it forehead.

She frowned, she had seen a depiction of something like this. This was an envoy of the nameless, something higher than the vermin.

Every envoy was of legendary grade and had spirituality. Not to mention this one was a rank 4, an entire rank above her, even though her vessel was two grades higher than it bloodline the difference between ranks triumphed the difference between grades.

Especially the higher the ranks but it was also true for grades, the difference between grades grew the higher you go.

Even though this thing emitted a terrifying aura she knew she had to fight, fortunately she was not alone.

A green forcefield passed through her creating a wide domain of green, Cathra her used her skill to heal everyone and increase their essence regeneration.

The others also stood around her vigilantly, this was going to be their hardest fight so far and it was possible some might not make it.

She turned to address the army. " Retreat" " But ma’am we can..." " You’ll just hold us back." Said Cat, she had always been brutally honest.

The soldiers gritted their teeth and retreated, they didn’t like it but they knew she was right, they were too weak to participate in this fight, some of them could barely stand in the presence of this thing.

The only ones remaining were fhe 7 rank 3 vessel holders. Her, Cat, Cat’s mother Cathra, Siri, Aira, Ndu and Haruko.

" $#@&+_+$#@@" The envoy spoke in a language none could fully understand. " Aira, any idea what it’s saying?" Aira was the scholar amongst them.

She studied many languages from the ruins of the past. " I’m not very skilled in the language of the void but I did hear death and small? Maybe insect I’m not sure."

" But it’s an insult right?" Asked Cat. " I can’t be certain but it sounded like it yes." " That’s all I needed to know." She grinned.

The space rift behind the envoy continued to close slowly until it disappeared and they still did not move, the soldiers were yet to retreat far enough.

Infact she doubted even the civilians were far enough against something this powerful. " Aira can you create a barrier around the battlefield to prevent others from being effected?"

" Sure but then I won’t be able to focus on the fight, I don’t think i can afford to split my attention here" Aira replied while fixing her glasses.

Naledi nodded. " Then save you energy, I might need you create one for me." She nodded.

Aira understood their leader,if she said she might then she had some trump card under her and she believed she had an idea what it was but she couldn’t be sure until she sees it.

The envoy still did not move and continued watching them with contempt and disregard. " Ahh, this thing is pissing me off." Grumbled Cat while still grinning.

Then for the first time it looked at it fallen comrades with even more contempt than it had for them. " ####@/;!$##" it spoke again.

Then it aura rose, Naledi knew they were out of time. She held her sword in a defensive stance and the temperature around her dropped even further.

Cat took large gulps from her gourd, Siri played her flute, Haruko sheathed his sword and took a samurai’s drawing stance, Ndu held his hammer with both hands and Aira held out a small golden bird cage infront of her.

The envoy looked at them like they were nothing but a mere inconvenience then it moved.
