Chapter 32 High Fever

The sky was already dark. Everyone had a pleasant chat at the end and gradually drifted off to sleep, myself included.

For some reason, I started dreaming again.

In the dream, the weather suddenly changed, becoming extremely cold, and everyone shivered uncontrollably.

Luo Yaqin, trembling, snuggled up to me, her soft voice pleading, "Can you hold me, Lu Ziye? I'm so cold, I really can't stand it, it's too cold, I feel like I'm going to freeze to death!"

Feeling pity for Luo Yaqin's icy hands, I pulled her into my embrace.

"Lu Ziye, I'm cold too. Will you hold me?" Shangguan Yao, seeing this, also spoke to me pitifully.

Damn, when did this proud CEO become so clingy!

Looking at Shangguan Yao's pitiful expression, I helplessly embraced her as well.

With Luo Yaqin on my left and Shangguan Yao on my right, their burning bodies rubbed against me as I comforted them.

This amorous scene made me feel like the happiest man in the world!

My consciousness gradually faded, and I fell asleep again. When I opened my eyes, I was shocked!

Everyone had lost their vital signs!

I checked on each person, one by one. None of them were breathing. Panic-stricken, I used all my strength to perform CPR, but there was no reaction.

In despair, I looked around.

The whole world had turned dark!

Tears of sorrow streamed down my face. The moment my tears touched the ground, they instantly felt warm. Gradually, the temperature rose, and the biting cold wind disappeared.

At that moment, I suddenly woke up from my dream, drenched in cold sweat. I touched my cheek and found tear tracks.

As I was about to get up, I felt a weight and realized Guan Haier was lying in my arms!

I breathed a sigh of relief. So it was just a dream. But then, my heart sank again!

It was genuinely getting colder!

Guan Haier seemed unwell, trembling in my arms and sneezing intermittently.

When I felt her forehead, it was burning hot!

The weather on this island was becoming more and more erratic, and now Guan Haier had fallen ill. This situation was unsustainable! We had very little medicine to begin with. If this continued, we would eventually have to rely solely on our willpower to survive!

The more I thought about it, the more my head ached, and my sleepiness vanished.

I gently placed Guan Haier on the military coat, wrapped her up snugly, and then woke up Luo Yaqin. I asked her for a few fever-reducing pills and fetched some clean water.

Returning to Guan Haier's side, I gently helped her up and called her name.

"Haier, open your mouth and take the medicine first."

Fortunately, Guan Haier was still conscious. Her little face was flushed with fever. She vaguely opened her eyes. I pried open her small mouth, dropped the medicine in, and gave her a sip of water.

Suddenly, Guan Haier's little face scrunched up, and she whimpered pitifully, "Brother Ye, it's bitter!"

Facing a girl like Guan Haier, even a heart of steel would melt.

I held her and comforted her for a while until she fell asleep and released her grip on my neck.

The crackling bonfire beside us cast our shadows on the wall, creating a warm scene.

After a while, I touched Guan Haier's forehead and saw that her fever seemed to have subsided. I got up and went to the mouth of the cave.

Outside, the wind was biting, and frost was already forming on the rocks.

My heart tightened!

After the storm, there was a rapid drop in temperature. What was going on with this island!?

I shook Luo Yaqin awake and said, "We're short on medicine and food. Today, I'm going out to hunt for food. You take care of Guan Haier."

Luo Yaqin looked at me, nodded without a word, and got up.

For some reason, she wasn't as enthusiastic towards me as she was during the day.

Did she misunderstand me because of what happened last time?

No matter. I had to ensure everyone's survival. Survival was the top priority now!

With that thought, I immediately returned to the cave to prepare my hunting tools. I woke everyone up and said loudly, "The weather outside has become extremely harsh. We're running short on supplies, and we don't have enough food or medicine. Today, Li Degui and I will go hunting. Tomorrow, Luo Yaqin will go with me to collect medicinal herbs. The rest of you will stay here to look after Guan Haier and improve our living space."

After speaking, I picked up my gear and was about to head outside, dragging Li Degui by the arm.

Seeing the weather outside, Pan Lili ran up to me and said, "Wear your military coat when you go out. It's so cold, please don't get sick or freeze."

I shook my head slightly. "I don't need to wear so much. Guan Haier is still sick. Give your clothes to her."

Luo Yaqin, however, disagreed.

"Don't worry about Haier. We'll take good care of her. You put on your clothes. You're our backbone. If you fall, we're all finished!"

I looked at Luo Yaqin and laughed heartily. "I feel like a tribal chief from a primitive tribe, wearing the best, being taken care of by so many people. All I need is a few wives and concubines, hahaha..."

Luo Yaqin gave me a seductive glance and called me a "dead pervert."

But in the next second, the pleasant atmosphere was shattered by that scoundrel Li Degui.

This dog-like fellow, realizing he had to go out, let out a yelp and collapsed on the ground, struggling and wailing desperately. "I'm not going! I'd rather starve to death or freeze than go out! It's so cold outside, and I'm wearing so little. Do you want me to die out there? I won't go even if you beat me to death!"

Li Degui's words made me secretly delighted. I had been looking for a reason to get rid of him, and now he had delivered himself to my doorstep!

"You're not going, Li Degui? Fine. If you're not going, I'll fulfill your wish right now!" I said, pulling a gun from my waist and pointing it at Li Degui's head.

"I'll go, I'll go! Don't kill me, I'll go, okay?"

As expected, the moment the gun was pointed at him, this cowardly Li Degui revealed his true nature.

I led Li Degui into the bone-chilling wind. The animals on the island were becoming increasingly scarce, almost disappearing.

This troubled me greatly. I had no choice but to brace myself and lead Li Degui deeper into the dense jungle of the island's interior.

Even though I knew this trip was dangerous, there seemed to be no better option at the moment.

After walking for an unknown period, Li Degui collapsed on the ground, crying out from the cold. "I'm not walking anymore. I'm exhausted. If you want to go, go by yourself. Don't drag me. I want to go back."

I glared at him and kicked him. "I'm warning you, don't cause me any trouble. I spared your life. If you want to die, just say so, and I'll give you a quick end!"

Hearing this, Li Degui swallowed and, realizing he couldn't fight me, mumbled something and got up, brushing the dust off his clothes.

Suddenly, Li Degui's eyes lit up, and he pointed behind me, exclaiming, "Lu Ziye, look! What is that?"
