Chapter 404: Chapter 404: That’s My Boy
When she saw Railer standing there, watching her as cautiously as when they first met, she didn’t care about how dirty he was. She quickly pulled him into her arms.
"You should’ve let Kane do the planting. He’s awful! He causes trouble, and then you clean up all the mess he made!"
"Mommy, you should punish me for what happened today," Railer whispered, resting his head on her shoulder.
Not far away, the woman who had been talking to him earlier was hiding behind the flower bed. She made a cheering gesture toward him. He waved back, as if saying goodbye or responding to her.
After walking through the garden and entering the villa, the woman took out her phone and made a call. "Don’t worry. I’ve taken care of everything. I told you before that Railer has autism. He used to be slow. Even though he’s a bit better now, he’s still not very sharp. You can get ready to take them away."
Hmph, Mr. Wilson, you deserve this! I protected your son in front of Kate so many times, but you treated me like I was as heartless as her. You kicked me out of the Wilson family and had my brother get fired from your company. Now he’s gone astray and buried in debt. I have no choice but to use your two children to pay it off.
Chantelle didn’t know the woman existed. When Railer said he wanted to be punished, she felt both relieved and heartbroken.
"You did make a mistake today. So, I’m punishing you by having you copy books with Kane. Are you okay with that?"
Railer leaned in and kissed her cheek. "I’m willing to do it."
"That’s my boy, Rai." Chantelle kissed Railer on the cheek. The little boy’s face turned bright red as he felt his father’s eyes on him.
"Come down. You’re going to get Mommy’s clothes dirty too," Daniel said in a slightly firm tone.
Railer waited for Chantelle to put him down, but she kept walking while holding him. "Don’t listen to your father. I’ll take you to the bathroom."
"Are you really going to bathe him? He’s not a baby anymore!" Daniel complained as he followed behind them.
"I know he’s not a baby anymore, but he’s only five! It’s not like he’s fifteen!" Chantelle rolled her eyes.
Daniel reached out and took Railer from her arms. "I’ll do it. You should respect a young boy’s privacy."
Chantelle hadn’t planned to bathe Railer herself. All three of her kids had learned to handle simple chores on their own at a young age. Even Stephanie had been able to shower by herself since she was four. Chantelle only meant to prepare the bathwater and a clean set of clothes for Railer.
But she didn’t bother explaining or stopping Daniel. "Then send Rai to the study to copy the passage like Kane after his bath. And don’t yell at him anymore."
"Alright." Daniel held Railer securely in one arm and went upstairs in long, quick strides.
Chantelle let out a small sigh. Then, she mumbled, "How could he be so strict with his own son..."
After that, Chantelle went back to her room to take a shower since her clothes were dirty too.
While washing, she suddenly felt dizzy. The next moment, she collapsed onto the floor.
She was still conscious while lying on the cold tiles. She tried to call for help, but no sound came out, and her body felt weak.
After a few failed attempts to lift herself up, Chantelle gave up and stayed where she was.
Daniel will come looking for me once he’s done bathing Railer anyway.
Why am I so sure about that? I just know it deep down after spending so much time with Daniel lately.
About ten minutes later, Chantelle heard the door open. Then came the sound of footsteps entering her room; she could tell it was Daniel.
Daniel’s clothes had gotten wet while he was giving Railer a quick bath. Earlier, when Chantelle was scolding Kane, he had secretly moved all his clothes into the empty closet in her room. Now, he had come to change.
Not long after he took off his shirt, Daniel sensed something strange.
The sound of water from the shower had been running for too long without stopping. It was as if no one was actually showering inside.
He walked to the bathroom and knocked on the door. "Chantelle, are you there?"
There was no response. He asked again, "If you don’t answer, I’m coming in."
Daniel opened the door and walked inside. The moment he did, he saw Chantelle lying naked on the floor.
Even though her figure was full and beautiful, what caught his attention first was the look of helplessness in her eyes. He quickly went to her, lifted her from the floor, and carried her to the bed. Then, he covered her with a blanket and rushed out to call Philip and the others.
Philip arrived and examined Chantelle carefully. After that, he drew some blood samples to run a few tests.
"Don’t worry too much. I think she fainted because the medication she’s taking has started to take effect," Philip said, trying to calm Daniel, who was staring at Chantelle with a nervous and worried expression.
Earlier, when Chantelle’s condition had worsened, Daniel had broken into Trenton’s lab and stolen a vial of antidote. After that, Philip and the others studied its contents and managed to create a drug from it.
The drug could temporarily relieve Chantelle’s symptoms, but just as Trenton had warned, it wasn’t a real antidote. Over time, it would slowly destroy her body instead.
That side effect was what caused her to faint earlier.
"Can she still take the medication now?" Daniel asked in a low voice.
Philip shook his head. "She’ll need to wait at least a week before taking another dose for it to work properly. If she takes it now, her body might not handle it and could go into shock."
"There’s nothing we can do for her right now?" Daniel’s eyes burned with fury. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to tear Trenton apart.
Philip glanced at Russell, who said, "It’s best if she stops all medication for now. We’ll decide on the next step once we have her blood test results."
"Chantelle might have more of these fainting spells after this," Alexander said as he looked through Philip’s latest report on her condition. "Someone needs to watch her around the clock."
"I’ll watch her," Daniel said while holding Chantelle’s hand tightly. As he looked at her face, guilt filled his heart. He regretted ever fighting with her.
Both of us are in terrible shape. We shouldn’t waste the little time we have left on pointless arguments.
