Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Are We Friends Now?
After all, it was useless for him to hold so much money. If Chantelle found out he was being such a spendthrift, she would have scolded him.
"We’ll still have chances to work together?" the man asked in surprise. Even though they were so young, their abilities were far beyond his own, and he might never reach their level in his lifetime.
"Are we friends now?" Railer asked, looking straight at him.
The man’s eyes lit up as he nodded. "Of course, we’re friends. My name is Jacob. What should I call you two?"
"Jackoff? Hahaha, Rai! His name is Jackoff!" Kane burst into laughter, rolling on the sofa as soon as he heard the man’s name.
"Kane, it’s rude to laugh at others." Railer looked at him helplessly. He shook his head and said to Jacob, "My brother is still young. Please don’t take it seriously."
Jacob noticed Railer’s mouth twitching as he tried to hold back his laughter. He scratched his head. "It’s fine. Laugh if you want. I’ve been laughed at since I was a kid."
At least they didn’t mock me like the others.
"Haha, Rai! From now on, he’s Jackoff, I’m Jerkass, and you’re Jackass!" Kane laughed hysterically, thinking their names were clever. He patted the sofa as he laughed harder.
Jacob and Railer glanced at each other. They were both speechless. They couldn’t understand why Kane always came up with such odd ideas.
"Warning! Dear Mommy is two hundred meters away from you! Please run away immediately!"
Suddenly, Kane’s phone rang.
His smile disappeared at once. He jumped up from the sofa, grabbed Railer’s hand, and pulled him toward the door. "It’s over! Mommy found us!"
"It’s too late." Railer stayed still when he saw Chantelle striding toward them.
He had already decided to accept whatever punishment came. As long as Chantelle calmed down, he wouldn’t argue. But Kane didn’t feel the same way.
Since he was a child, Kane had made Chantelle angry countless times. If he had been obedient every time she tried to hit him, his body would have been covered with slap marks.
"Why are you just standing there? Run!" Kane swiftly grabbed Railer’s hand again as he run toward the back door of the coffee shop.
"Kane, stop!" Chantelle saw them immediately and rushed after them.
As he ran, Kane shouted, "Mommy, I was wrong! I’ll never do it again!"
Chantelle, out of breath, tried to keep chasing them, but Daniel stopped her. "Don’t chase them here. Let’s block them at the back door."
Only then did Chantelle realize they were in Carcosa, not Easthan. If she kept chasing Kane while yelling, she might get arrested by the police.
People around them were already frowning at her.
Jacob looked at Chantelle’s beautiful face and thought to himself. No wonder one child is lively and the other is calm. They had clearly inherited their traits from their parents.
He was so distracted that he forgot to look away. Daniel noticed his stare before walking out. He turned and glanced at Jacob. Startled, Jacob quickly lowered his head.
That man looks strong. His eyes are like knives.
Looking at Daniel, Jacob thought that Kane and Railer must have unusual identities, and he had to treat them carefully.
Then he realized he hadn’t even asked for their names. Luckily, they had Instagram, and he could reach out to them later.
When Chantelle and Daniel rushed to the back door, they ran right into Kane and Railer.
Kane tried to escape, but Daniel grabbed him. No matter how hard he tried, it was useless.
"Behave yourself if you don’t want someone to send you away." Daniel gave Kane’s bottom a light slap.
Kane suddenly remembered that he and Stephanie were Carcosa nationals. If people found out that Chantelle hit them and reported it, he might be sent to an orphanage, and Chantelle could be put in prison.
With that thought, Kane had stopped resisting. He silently followed Daniel to the car.
Railer walked behind them, then turned back with a worried look at Chantelle. She smiled and reassured him. "I know Kane must have dragged you along. I won’t blame you."
"No, I was the one who gave Kane the idea. I’m the mastermind." Railer felt a sudden disappointment when he noticed the difference in how Chantelle treated Kane and him.
Chantelle treated Railer differently because they had been apart for five years. Kate had bullied him before, so Chantelle cherished him even more. Railer was also more mature than Kane, so she didn’t discipline him the same way she did to Kane. She preferred to treat Railer with understanding and respect like a friend.
"Okay, I believe you’re the mastermind. Can you tell me why you did this? You should know I’ve been worried about your safety since the last incident."
Railer noticed that Chantelle’s expression was calm. She didn’t seem angry at all. That made him frustrated, and he suddenly didn’t feel like answering.
He pursed his lips and ran away awkwardly. Chantelle was stunned for a moment.
It was rare to see Railer lose his temper and act willful. He looked so cute!
When Daniel saw Railer climb into the car angrily, he glanced at Chantelle with a questioning look.
Chantelle shrugged. She had no idea why Railer was suddenly upset.
"Mommy, I was wrong! Please forgive me! I won’t run around again!" Kane leaned on the seat, bowing to Chantelle again and again, which almost made Daniel laugh.
But Chantelle kept a stern face. "Sit down! I’ll teach you a lesson when we get home."
Railer’s eyes dimmed with disappointment. Daniel noticed it in the rearview mirror. He gave Railer a thoughtful glance, then started the engine.
On the way, Kane kept begging for mercy but still refused to admit what they had done. Chantelle was nearly amused by him several times. Still, she held back her laughter, wanting Kane to understand how serious this matter was.
Daniel didn’t hold back and laughed out loud several times. To him, boys should have their own opinions and the courage to do what others wouldn’t dare. He had always thought Railer was too obedient, but now he was glad to see they were lively.
As for their safety, Daniel had already arranged for people to follow them in secret. This time, he had chosen men he trusted completely, so unlike Chantelle, he wasn’t worried.
What puzzled him was Railer’s attitude. Railer didn’t look afraid of punishment or guilty for his mistake. Instead, he seemed angry at Daniel for laughing. The look of complaint in his eyes made Daniel’s smile freeze.
