Chapter 398: Are You Afraid I’ll Offend Someone?

Chapter 398: Chapter 398: Are You Afraid I’ll Offend Someone?

Chantelle remembered Ciara once mentioning that her husband was introverted and didn’t like meeting people, so she never dared to visit him on her own.

"That’s good. When my husband heard I was coming to see you, he even mentioned your two children." Ciara only hesitated for a moment before agreeing.

Hearing that, Chantelle felt happy and immediately thought about preparing a gift.

"I’ll bring my eldest son too. He’s more mature than Steph and Kane."

Ciara frowned at her words. She put down her coffee and said seriously, "I came to see you today because of this matter. We don’t agree with you being with Daniel."

"Why?" Chantelle asked subconsciously. She wanted to explain that she wasn’t with Daniel.

However, Ciara interrupted her immediately. "Think about how you’ve lived these past six years. You’ve suffered so much because of him! Why are you still with him?"

"There were some misunderstandings back then..." Chantelle trailed off, unsure how to continue.

Ciara raised her hand to stop her. "No matter what happened back then, Daniel isn’t a good match for you. We’ve already made arrangements for your future. You might feel unhappy and think we’re using the fact that we saved your life to force you into a life you don’t want. You may even think we’re interfering. But no matter how you feel, you can’t be with Daniel before that person returns. It’s his death order and the only request he has made to you in the past six years."

"He’s coming back? When?" Chantelle asked. She didn’t know who that person was, his identity, his age, or even where he was. She knew nothing. No matter how many times she asked, Ciara never told her.

"Within these two years. You’ll understand everything once you meet him," Ciara said, as if remembering something. Then she sighed heavily.

They soon moved on to another topic, and Chantelle turned down Ciara’s offer to help her get rid of Trenton.

First, she felt she already owed Ciara too much and didn’t want to disturb her peaceful life because of this. Second, she believed she had enough strength to deal with Trenton herself.

She had never been someone who liked to rely on others.

"I know your temper. No one can threaten you. But you need to think about whether you’ll put Daniel in danger." Ciara gave Chantelle this warning before she left.

It could be taken as persuasion or as a threat.

At first, Chantelle felt angry. She even wanted to be with Daniel just to go against Ciara. But when she thought of Ciara’s power, she suddenly felt devastated. And according to Ciara, that person was even more powerful than her.

Chantelle couldn’t understand why that person wanted to stop her from being with Daniel. From Ciara’s expression, it didn’t seem like it was about making a deal with her marriage. It seemed more like it was for her own good.

Suddenly, Chantelle’s thoughts drifted away. Moments later, she called Russell to pick her up. But after sitting in the car for a long time, she realized Daniel was the one driving it.

Her heart started beating fast, and she felt guilty for no reason.

Daniel noticed her expression change all of a sudden. He was about to turn the car around to go find Ciara. If he hadn’t seen Ciara with his own eyes, he would have already sent someone to block her.

"What are you doing?" Chantelle quickly stopped him when she saw him about to turn back.

"What do you think? It’s only been a short while. What did you do just now?" Daniel asked.

He parked the car by the roadside. Until Chantelle explained everything clearly, he wasn’t going to leave.

"Is there any problem? It’s none of your business!" Chantelle blurted out when Daniel provoked her.

As soon as she said it, she saw Daniel’s face darken. His angry look was completely different from the happiness he had shown earlier.

Chantelle hated seeing him upset. She knew he had lived for nearly thirty years and had rarely smiled. When she looked at his handsome face, she couldn’t bear the thought of making him angry.

It was his perfect appearance that affected her emotions.

Daniel let out a mocking smile. His body trembled slightly, as if he didn’t know how to answer her words.

He suddenly got out of the car, stood by the roadside, and lit a cigarette.

The faint smell of tobacco drifted into her nose, making her feel irritated for no reason.

When Daniel finished smoking and came back, he started the engine without a word and drove toward the research site.

After a while, Chantelle couldn’t help but remind him, "Don’t investigate the people I met today."

"Why? Are you afraid I’ll offend someone? Or are you afraid that I..." Daniel took a deep breath but didn’t finish his words.

From the first half of his sentence, Chantelle realized that Calvin or Russell must have already told Daniel about Ciara or the person behind her.

She wondered how much they had told Daniel.

"Actually, everyone was fine when I was away, weren’t they?" Chantelle thought for a moment, then muttered softly.

Daniel let out a cold snort. "Since you can easily give up on me just because of a few words from others, then everything between us is meaningless."

When Chantelle heard his statement, her nose stung. She fought hard to keep her eyes from turning red and to stop her tears from falling.

Chantelle suddenly felt anxious. She had been holding back her feelings, reminding herself not to fall for Daniel so easily.

She thought she could escape from Easthan, and it was Daniel who couldn’t let her go. He was the one who kept chasing her. But why did his harsh words make her feel so miserable?

She felt so uncomfortable that she was about to cry, and shame rose from her chest.

Chantelle rolled down the car window. The wind against her face slowly calmed her restless emotions.

"Since you don’t love me, I won’t force you. Once you leave the children with me, I won’t stop you from going anywhere. I’ll do my best to give you whatever you want." Daniel’s hand on the steering wheel turned pale from gripping it so tightly.

If Chantelle looked at him, she would see the tension on his face. His unwillingness and pain were about to spill from his deep eyes.

"Impossible! The children are mine! I must take them away!"
