Chapter 96: The VIP Chamber
Aven’s POV
"He is with some other members of the casino in the dungeon," he replied, his voice shaking in between.
Just precisely the place I suspected he would be.
We moved directly to the entrance of the underground dungeon. There were guards stationed there, too.
"Only important businesses are handled down there. You need to be a VIP to get in," the guard said, and just like the other guard, this one was like a robot, if not worse.
"Important business, huh?" Damon replied to him in a voice that wore sarcasm.
"And you think we aren’t here for important business too," I asked, removing my shades.
By the shocked expression on his face, I’m sure he recognized me the instant I pulled off my shades.
"Alpha Av..." he started to say, but I cut him off abruptly, didn’t want to draw any unwanted attention. Besides, I’m looking for traitors, and if they found out that I’m here, they would find a better way to hide.
"Shh," I said, putting my index fingers to my mouth, "Now let us in, before we go inside in our own way."
He looked shaken, but he shifted to let us in.
"If you breathe a word of our presence to anyone, you are as good as dead," Tristan warned before entering.
"I’ll lead you to the inner chamber; these are just the cells," the guard said with a shaky voice. He probably thought that by leading us to the chamber, he would compensate for keeping us waiting at the entrance for so long.
Or maybe that was also a way of sending a code to them, making the traitors prepared.
"There’s no need for that; we already know our way to the chamber," Tristan replied, venom dripping in his tone as he pulled off his shades too, revealing himself to be the successor to the Alpha in charge of trades.
The guard was taken aback for some seconds, then fear washed over his face. He immediately took a stance, like he was ready to battle us, against heading to the chamber.
"You know you would lose this fight, so why bother fighting a lost battle?" Damon scoffed.
"What business are you here for?" he asked, fidgeting, "My boss wouldn’t like to entertain any of you."
"Well, you know you don’t have a say in that, unless there’s something you are trying to conceal," I said, shoving him out of my way.
He fell backwards, and Tristan led the way. Before I followed behind, I made sure to leave a word behind. "Next time, pick your battles wisely, not every wolf in my rank will be as merciful as I am."
He was a Delta wolf, way down the wolf rank, but they were scouts and strategists and mostly very useful, especially in settings like this.
Tristan must be very conversant with wolves of this ranking, as this was obviously his field of expertise.
We put our shades back on before we got to the chamber. It was almost similar to any Alpha stronghold chamber, but with a slight variation in its layout.
It was pretty small and much darker. The scent of smoke, expensive cologne and alcohol filled the room.
Quite a number of wolves sat around the table. "These must be the VIP members your guard spoke about," I said as I moved towards Malvin Valtimore.
"Who let you in? I don’t remember inviting any special guests into the VIP chamber recently," Valtimore said as he rose from his seat.
His movements were precise and calculated, like he couldn’t mistake his steps if he didn’t count them.
"No one actually needs to let us in," Tristan replied, a dry smile curling in the corner of his lips.
"Hmm, I know trouble when I smell one," Valtimore said, walking precisely until he came face to face with Tristan.
My eyes drifted swiftly to the VIP council members. My eyes were studying every one of them one after the other.
And there she was, Luna Ashley, the blonde who assisted the headmistress of the academy.
"How surprising," I said, moving towards her, cutting the altercation between Valtimore and Tristan, and drawing their attention towards me.
"Nice to meet you here, Luna Ashley," I said, pulling out my glasses that only she could recognize,
When recognition hit her, she shivered under my gaze.
"Shh," I said, pulling my index finger to my mouth, putting my shades back, and moving towards an empty seat in the council chamber, where I sat down.
There were no empty seats in the chamber except for Baltimore’s, which led me to believe that one member was yet to attend or wasn’t going to attend, and I needed to identify that member.
"You weren’t offered a seat at my table," Valtimore yelled, losing composure.
A dry laugh escaped my lips before I could hold it in.
Damon moved towards Valtimore’s seat and sat down, visibly shaking Valtimore with anger. I knew that this countenance would change the moment he found out who he had been speaking with.
The air in the room suddenly shifted. The council members looked like they were ready to fight.
"Go on, do something you all will regret," Tristan said, pulling off his shades, and at the same time, Damon and I pulled off our glasses.
"The Alpha successors," Valtimore muttered under his breath, taking two steps backwards and then regaining his stance.
Then he signaled to the other council members. Two of the council members suddenly leaped up to face me, revealing their fangs; they were vampires.
I came prepared with a silver blade. I slashed them, and in two seconds, their bodies fell to the ground.
"Do you want to sacrifice more of your council members, traitor?" I growled, gritting my teeth—the audacity to order vampires on me.
Luna Ashley sat still, looking into the space. She was already aware of her fate. She would be stripped of her title as Luna and cast to the underworld.
I turned towards Luna Ashley, "Does Alpha Aldric know of your dealings with the Den of Coins or the VIP vampires?"
