Chapter 196: I Just Kissed My Wife
Hilla’s fall from the bed was heavy, especially when she was unprepared and even shocked.
What was worse, even though she had skills, she was wrapped in a quilt. Plus the bed was not high. She could only fall to the ground straightforward.
"I will let Bruce know when he comes back!" Hilla thought.
Margaret supported herself on the bed with both hands and leaned her body out of the bed, asking in a low and guilty voice, "I know we haven’t seen each other for a year. You don’t have to be so welcoming."
Welcoming? So bloody hell welcoming!
Hilla thought, "I am so welcoming that I want to kill you!"
Hilla’s waist was aching so badly that for a moment, she felt like she was having a lumbar disc herniation or something. Seeing Margaret stretching out her trembling hand for her, Hilla didn’t take it.
She crawled up from the ground with the quilt in her arms. So Margaret could only shrink back a little and hide on the bed with guilty blinks.
"I didn’t mean to. I didn’t know that I would scare you. I just wanted to give a friendly greeting..."
Well, maybe see what she was up to meantime.
In fact, what she saw was just that Hilla was holding a mobile phone and lost in thought. The phone was not even on.
Only then did she speak, never expecting that she would accidentally scare Hilla. She was innocent!
"When did you return to River City?"
Hilla knew that Margaret had been working as an intern in Far City for the past year. They didn’t usually contact each other, but every time they did, Margaret always talked endlessly.
Therefore, instead of picking up her video chat invitation, Hilla only voice chatted with her most of the time.
"Well, last night, I knew it. I didn’t bother you when I returned."
Hilla gave a leisurely smile, revealing a few small white teeth on her red and plump lips, "I’ve only been back for a month, and I haven’t even had a week with him. You can try."
When she looked at Hilla’s devilish smile, a chill run down Margaret’s back that she couldn’t help shiver.
She smiled reluctantly, "I understand. You need the world of husband and wife. I won’t be insensible."
Bruce would have hung her up and taught her a lesson if she cut in when they were together.
Margaret felt that she was a smart girl, who would not cause trouble for her brother and sister-in-law.
"Oh, since when Miss Anderson has been so sensible?"
Hilla gave a faint sneer and reached out her hand to touch Margaret’s head, getting her to break out in cold sweat.
Margaret couldn’t help but wondered, <Hilla wouldn’t smash my head with her powerful slap, would she?
I am sometimes disappointing, but I am also kind-hearted! She won’t do that, right? >
"Of ... of course. Just feel free to tell me if you need any help. I’ll do it for you whether I will be burned or will be killed."
Though Margaret was older than Hilla, she was more experienced in acting cute.
Moreover, she had been working for a year. Now she was a good hand when it came to being lazy and speaking in glowing terms.
"I don’t need you to be burned or to be killed. I just want to why you suddenly returned. Did you cause trouble in Far City? Bruce..."
"Don’t make it wrong. I came back for a proper job this time. It’s a business trip. My boss came here with me. Later I am going back to the hotel. I am here just because I miss you."
Margaret said as she pulled her face, feeling as if she could finally hold her head high.
It was said that she had persisted in that company in Far City with hard work all this year. What was more, she went from an assistant all the way to an important secretary in the company.
Hilla couldn’t help but size her up. Finding Margaret seemed not to be lying, she heaved a sigh of relief.
And then she climbed out of bed and entered the bathroom with a piece of clothing in hand.
The moment she came out again, she found Margaret still lying on her bed, phone chatting about something. Her face was just vivid. She was sometimes frowning, sometimes angry, and sometimes laughing mischievously.
What an "outstanding" young girl that "worked hard" in gossips! What did she learn in the company by the way?
"What plans do you have today? Do you want to go shopping?"
Hilla glanced at Margaret and had a strong feeling that she was here for the sake of money.
"What are you shopping for? We are going to the cocktail party, aren’t we? Bruce asked me to take you to do some styling."
Margaret fixed her eyes on the cell phone. She didn’t turn her head but gave a casual wave of her hand as she answered Hilla.
At this moment, Margaret was excitedly typing to a small trio gossip group within her company, "Guys, don’t worry. I will definitely take him down tonight."
"Shameless. I’ve heard you say this for several months. Mr. Jorgansen is the way he used to be. You’d better make it come true before you say that again."
"Everybody knows that Mr. Jorgansen criticized her the most! Honey, just don’t think about the man you can’t handle."
"Margaret: You are just jealous!"
"Jealous of what? Jealous that you went on Mr. Jorgansen’s bed and were then thrown out? Or that you being scolded heavily?"
"Or maybe jealous of the underwear that Mr. Jorgansen threw away like trash!"
"Margaret: You’re just jealous that I have gone through so much with Mr. Jorgansen!"
"The other two: Don’t be blindly confident, OK?"
Margaret rolled her eyes and locked the phone.
"You don’t know it! Julian just wanted me! He was just shy!" Margaret thought.
"Did you hear me? What party were you talking about?"
Seeing Margaret being like this, Hilla couldn’t help but wonder if there was anything wrong with her when she was in Far City.
"Are you in a relationship now?"
Hilla couldn’t help frowned and asked the question that she had for quite a while.
Margaret immediately jumped up, grabbed her hand, and said in a serious tone, "Being with you is my date. Every second I see you with Bruce, I am in love."
Hilla thought, "You are really good at this!"
Bruce would probably give her a lot of money if he heard this.
Who could believe that one day Miss Anderson would flatter someone?
Hilla was now very curious about her boss, the one that successfully turned Margaret into such a smooth girl!
She must say that she was surprised to see Margaret not only survived from her psycho boss but also became so flattering!
...
Together with Margaret, Hilla came to a styling salon where she seemed to have made an appointment already.
The moment they entered the salon, they were arranged to do various projects.
Seeing that Hilla was frowning and obviously unwilling to be manipulated, Margaret comforted her, "It’s OK. Don’t be nervous. If you don’t want to see them, you can sleep. When you wake up, they will finish working for you."
Hilla frowned. She glanced at Margaret and asked, "What kind of party is it? Why will it need a female companion? Are you going to attend it too?"
Seeing Margaret accompanying her, Hilla couldn’t help but feel curious. It was obvious that she was going to attend the party.
Bruce didn’t tell her anything last night. In addition, she had never gone to parties with Bruce.
Although everyone knew about their relationship, there were very few occasions where they would officially attend. This was the first time since they returned from abroad.
"Of course. I’ll be my boss’ female companion. Let’s pretend that we don’t know each other at the party."
"Someone’s playing tricks again!" Hilla thought.
They had been busy styling for a whole day. During that time, Hilla drifted off into fitful sleep. After a change of clothes, she finally got into the car that Bruce had been waiting for her outside.
Bruce had already got his outfit changed. The black suit on him was stiff and straight, making him look handsome and tall.
The dark patterns between his clothes and the black dress that Hilla was wearing were somehow a match.
It was clearly a pair of couple outfits!
Hilla inevitably blushed. With her face lowered, she slightly curled her lips.
Bruce, on the other hand, looked calm. Glanced at Margaret who was standing at the door, Hilla asked, "She’s not going with us?"
Bruce replied without eyes on her, "Not the same way!"
Hilla wondered, "How harmonious!"
It was when Bruce took her to the entrance of the reception, did Hilla find out that the main guest of the party was Julian, who had just gotten an important project in Far City.
Secretly size up the man beside her, Hilla couldn’t help but wondered if he was doing this on purpose.
No wonder he brought her here. It turned out that he was up to something. "Mr. Anderson!"
Just as Hilla’s gaze met with Julian’s, a clear female voice interrupted before they could say anything.
Queeney walked towards them with graceful and charming steps. Seeing her approaching, Hilla subconsciously tightened her hands.
"Mrs. Richards."
With a quick glance at Rigel, who was beside Queeney, Bruce was a little surprised that this time, it was not Mr. Richards who accompanied her.
This well-known somebody, who had never been involved in the business world, was now dressed in a formal suit. His thin face was cold and expressionless, but not to be sneezed at.
It had to be said that today he looked especially different from the free and easy boy of the past.
Hilla noticed it as well, but she just nodded politely.
"Ms. Holt, I didn’t expect to meet you so soon."
As Queeney turned to her with a bright smile, Hilla suddenly became alert.
The smile on her face became perfunctory, "Indeed. The clothing exhibition was awesome. Mrs. Richards’ work was amazing."
Not expecting that Hilla would directly come to the point, the smile on Queeney’s face was a little hesitant.
However, the two men next to her were totally different. One was quiet and indifferent, and the other was deep and serious.
"It’s just my private exhibition. I won’t show it to the public. It’s just to make myself happy. I didn’t expect Ms. Holt will see it. Moreover, it seems that Mr. Anderson has bought all my works, so Ms. Holt, you don’t have to worry about the copyrights of the embroidery."
Queeney was obviously saying that if Hilla didn’t take back the paintings of the Holt family as soon as possible, people would see them one day.
At that time, those patterns would go public. What was more, those things would all belong to her.
Hilla pursed her lips. She hated being threatened, just like Rudi did. It was ridiculous.
But Queeney was not the same. She had things that Hilla cared about.
"Mrs. Richards’ clothes are really beautiful, especially those children’s clothes."
Hilla’s words reminded Bruce that he had bought a pile of children’s clothing not long ago.
Well ... he was still thinking about how to deal with it.
After they greeted each other, Rigel left with Queeney.
"Why are you doing this?"
Rigel said coldly, his hands gradually clutched into fists, but he remained indifferent.
Queeney was making things difficult for Hilla. He saw it clearly. He just couldn’t figure out why.
They hadn’t seen each other many times, but Queeney was obviously provoking Hilla. As for the clothes on Queeney’s clothing exhibition, he was familiar with the patterns on them.
He had seen them on Hilla’s graduation designs and the works that she made for activities and competitions.
Hilla was one of the Holts, and she had always emphasized that those patterns were unique to the Holt family. Queeney must know about this.
Queeney tilted her head slightly and smiled, "What? All I know now are the interests of the Richards family. I don’t know anything else."
"Mom, I promised I would support the Richards family."
"I know, but it’s hard. I don’t want to take the risks. Getting what we want from the Andersons is the most direct and effective way. I know that Bruce is willing to give up everything for his wife."
Queeney smiled gracefully when she thought of the man sitting in the wheelchair expressionlessly negotiating with her.
For an incomplete "Apple of the Eye", Bruce gave up a project that worth 30 million dollars. A man that was willing to spend millions for his wife was worth to be taken seriously, wasn’t it?
"Mom, you are going too far. Hilla didn’t do anything wrong. You shouldn’t have threatened her like that."
"Going too far? All I know is that your father is in the late stage of his illness. The financial deficit of the Richards Group needs a large amount of funding. Since you don’t agree to get married to the Jorgansens, I naturally have to choose another way. Do you want your father to see the Richards Group bankrupt before he dies?"
Queeney’s cold gaze stopped Rigel from talking.
His gaze passed through the crowd and landed on Hilla, his eyes filled with helplessness.
"What is it?"
Sensed that Hilla was in discomfort, Bruce hugged her in his arms and kissed her on the forehead.
Such an action in the public immediately made Hilla blush. She lowered her head
and whispered, "Everybody saw it."
"Well, I just kissed my wife. They wouldn’t see it."
Hilla twitched her mouth and thought, "You can always make nonsense serious."
