Chapter 1569: Sephon-Vesto Wedding
A few days later, the Sephon and Roach wedding finally began as scheduled. It was, as customary, held in the location of the Groom’s choosing, which was often their mansion.
The Sephon Mansion was opened to everyone invited—which included all the main nobles of Bleulle as well as some guests.
The ceremony would be held in the large garden hall at the back yard, but the guests were free to go around the public areas, to socialize, and to eat.
The nobles’ houses of a city were not small, and this part of the welcoming event was a way to show off their assets. Whether it was the house itself, the displays, and so on, they were all designed to achieve this.
It was just that the Sephon family members were the type to buy something just because it was expensive.
They had been fooled quite a lot, though in this case, even if fakes were detected, no one would mention it. The Sephon family was, after all, for better or for worse, one of Bleulle’s top families. Even if someone mentioned it in goodwill, they might get blamed for the ’humiliation’, so no one bothered.
Some people would whisper here and there, of course. Higher nobles would even snicker amongst themselves. Even those with superior social standing generally wouldn’t point it out. One, because many of them were the ones who manipulated things to earn a bit of extra money from rivals, and second, it was a way to keep the family in check.
Anyway, it was mostly the men of the family showing off their items to their important guests, while the women handled other women.
They would mostly go to the main garden and admire its beauty. The gardens were filled with various types of plants. The number, rarity, and exotism were a point of bragging—a status symbol just as the ’rare’ items in the hallways were.
This was the women’s scope, and the garden tours would also be accompanied by a lot of gossip.
That said, to control the lush atmosphere of the event, only one servant/guard was allowed to accompany each noble.
Veronica and her brother Vangh brought one guard each, though they were actually Alterran. They used this chance to study the place closely because they had no chance prior.
In fact, Veronica was supposed to follow Liaroa’s procession from her home today, but she somehow managed to convince the bride by telling her that she (Veronica) would go there to make sure there were no accidents.
Veronica even had the names of the women Liaroa didn’t like, apparently so she could ’watch out’ for them.
They were all noble women, too, those who didn’t quite get along well with Lia and her circle.
Of course, whether anyone would actually bother to do anything to her was likely just Liaroa’s paranoia, which Veronica made sure to take advantage of.
Anyway, the Roach family made sure they had a large procession, so Veronica’s absence really wouldn’t matter. She was essentially just a relative from a Town, which was considered low status compared to city nobles.
Anyway, some of those women Lia hated were actually chatting with Octavia at the side. Veronica noted the blondes there, a woman and a young lad, looking around.
It was probably Lady Zinnia and her son, Marcus. The Golds simply had a very specific shade of blonde that characterized them.
They were also very good-looking, appearing classy and cool at first, but the way their eyes roamed around as if looking for someone was still quite telling that they hadn’t been to such parties often.
She caught a few people looking at them and snickering, likely noticing this as well.
"Those must be the remaining Gold’s relatives from Hassen, right? I did hear they existed, I didn’t think they’d actually come here."
"The rumor of neglect must be true. How could they act like bumpkins from villages
?"Veronica blinked and looked at Lady Zinnia. She probably heard of these words, right? However, the Lady’s expression didn’t change, and they still kept looking similar to they had just seen the world, and it made Veronica curious.
The thought was interrupted when the herald announced the arrival of the Lord, as well as a few of his wives. There were three of them.
She watched as the Golds’ eyes brightened when the herald announced Lady Margaery’s name too.
Anyway, the wedding attendees began to settle as soon as the Lord arrived.
The guests were led and settled on the pews in the venue, the music—using simple instruments that were top-of-the-line in the city—began after a while, indicating the famous wedding procession had begun.
This was part of the famous Bleulle wedding process. It was quite the dreamy ceremony, and was the inspiration for some romantic couples even outside of Bleulle.
However, she heard that they almost didn’t follow that process. She heard it from Liaroa, who had ranted vehemently about it.
Apparently, some of the more conservative members of both families had wanted to dismiss the usual tradition because it was associated with the Golds. There was an intense debate about it, but it felt odd and incomplete to do so, so they still went ahead with it in the end.
When it was approved, Liaroa looked smug and happy, unintentionally revealing some of the conversations that went on higher up.
It seemed like they were planning to slowly delete the traces of the Golds in the City, even in the psyche of the people. Eventually, the ’traitor’ family would be forgotten, and people would forget that the ceremony was associated with them in the first place.
Lia was quite smug about this, as if her wedding would be the start of that movement.
Anyway, the bride and the groom soon arrived at the venue, with the volume of music increasing as the band that followed the procession merged with the one in the venue.
There were also various invited guests who joined in the procession, settling down in their respective seats.
Veronica watched the ceremony with various expressions on her face.
Betraying an entire family who had contributed so much to the City and, directly or indirectly, to their lives and luxury didn’t seem to mean anything to these people.
How...truly shameless.
