Chapter 311: Lower Butcher Shop

Ding!

"Fire!" A voice yelled from outside the elevator. The elevator doors opened up and laser bolts flooded the box. Scorching the walls and the floor of the elevator. There were far too many for him to dodge. After a few seconds the same voice called out. "Hold your fire!" The lasers slowly stopped until it completely stopped but there was still smoke covering the elevator.

It took a second before the smoke cleared. As it did there was murmuring from outside the elevator as they saw only scorch marks and destruction. There were no signs of anything else. Not even a body.

"Did we disintegrate them?" Someone asked. Just as they did, Jace dropped from the roof of the elevator and dashed out firing several shots as he did. He threw his knife at the commander he had picked out before he could yell an order.

Then the first enemy he ran into was kneed in the chest and there was an audible crack as he flew backwards through the air and into a wall. Jace then swung his fist around and punched another opponent as they raised their rifle.

Their head snapped back with another audible crack and he went limp. Seven were dead within a few seconds of him jumping out of the elevator. The last three in the room were across from him. They had begun running for the exits of this elevator lobby area. One ran towards his right so he just fired and hit them in the head.

The other two were going to his left but they were stumbling so he waited a moment until one of them stumbled right behind the back of the other one and fired. The bullet went through the first one’s head. Then it continued and traveled through the other one’s heart. Killing both of them with a single bullet.

Jace took a moment and looked around the room. They were using flashlights and a few other similar things to light up the room. But he was more focused on the other people he could see through the walls. There were only a few of them left. He walked over and pulled his knife out of the enemy commander’s head. He then sheathed his knife and stepped away from the body.

Abruptly his vision stopped and Jace shook his head as a headache began pounding in his mind. It would seem he could not keep it active for a long time just yet. Fortunately he was still able to see normally. He just had a headache now.

He took a moment before he walked through the room to one of the doorways. He remembered seeing the bigger of the two gatherings of energy in this direction. If he recalled this was the power source for the building. He went through a door that was being held open by a piece of metal.

"I can’t tell what the problem is. The emergency energy for the panel is not even triggering. The energy is there, it just won’t connect for some reason." One of the three in this room was smacking his fist against a panel.

"Same here- hey who are you?" Another of them looked over from his position. Then the last one looked over. Jace fired once at the first one he could see thanks to the few flashlights they had set around to help them work. The second one he could barely see. Then the third one was mostly hidden by the power source.

The first one dropped and he then fired at the second one fortunately hitting him in the head. Then the third one ran towards the doorway that was barely lit. Jace fired and missed the first shot on the third one. Then he tried to fire again.

Click!

"Damn." He cursed under his breath and moved to the panel the first of these guys was working on. "Vana, you got one coming your way." Jace told her as he allowed power to run through the facility. The lights lit up the room.

Then he touched the pales a few times and the power went out completely this time. The power source opened up to reveal the core. Jace stepped forward and put his hand on it. It went from a bright blue to black within a few seconds and Jace could feel energy surging through his body. He holstered his pistol and walked in the direction of the last room on this floor. It was also the only room that mattered, it was where they stored their sensitive data.

The last two enemies in the building should be in there. He walked to the partially opened door and stepped through. Inside he could see one of them was across the way trying to power up something. Jace could even tell with barely any vision that it was a communication device that was hobbled together.

But as he stepped forward he noticed an almost imperceptible shadow of someone standing to the side. They were waiting at the corner for him to fully walk into the room. He reached around the corner as he stepped into the room and crushed their throat before tossing them to the side. The pipe he was wielding fell to the ground.

The last one spun around. "No-no-no!" He yelled as he turned back to the device he was hobbling together. Jace grabbed the back of his head and slammed it down into the table he was working on. He then pulled the man’s head back and he looked at Jace out of the corner of his eyes while his nose was bleeding profusely along with the various pieces of plastic and wires that he had been working on before. "I won’t tell you anything."

Jace raised an eyebrow. "Why would I want to know anything from you?" He asked sarcastically with a grin. The man’s eyes filled with terror for a split moment before Jace slammed his head back into the table. His body then slid to the floor leaving a trail of blood across the table.

Jace stepped away and walked up to the central data bank. It had its own separate power source that was keeping it from powering down. He put his hand on the casing and electricity surged through the room.

There were several pops and explosions as all of these electrical components were overcharged. Once he was sure he was done and there was nothing recoverable he walked away from the lit room as the fire started spreading from the data bank.

He walked past the power source room and to the way the survivor ran earlier. He walked up a set of stairs and walked for a few minutes until he arrived at a metal door that was pulled ajar. He stepped out and saw Vana freeze in the middle of what she was doing.

Vana was in the middle of pushing a corpse into a trash bin. When she noticed it was him. She finished shoving in the body and then walked over. Jace kicked out the piece of metal that was keeping the door open and it slammed shut. He looked at Vana and nodded and they walked away. "Whisper facility destroyed, let’s go grab some food and then do the next chore Director Fenrir had for us."

Vana nodded and they started walking out of the alleyway. "Don’t forget your silencer." She reminded him.

Jace clicked his tongue and pulled out his Pyre removing the silencer and putting it away as they arrived at the end of the alley on the not as busy F Street. It would at least be a day before they figured out what happened in that building. The commotion out front of the building and the fire would make sure of that. "I am thinking... burritos."
