Chapter 280: Vexical Prime: Hostages

BANG BANG BANG

He could see in the distance as the first cannon shot missed the holy palace and slammed into a building that was behind the enemy base. The second shot hit off the tip of the holy palace’s cross and then continued on its journey into the same building that was behind the enemy base. Then the third hit the bottom of the cross causing the front of the base to cave in on itself.

He then adjusted his aim and fired a barrage of shots. Six in total, he spread them out so they would hit the visible roof that he could see from his position. Unfortunately the buildings around it kept him from hitting anything that was on the ground. But a saturation attack should be enough to get them moving.

He let the barrels on his gun cool for a second and moved over to a position so he had a better view of the Talus Mercenary base. He was just in time to because he could see from here as the shielding on the building went down. It was rare for anything less than a command ship to have shielding. But there were some groups like the Talus Mercenary group that had figured out alternative uses for them.

When it went down he set the tri-cannon down and pulled the other weapon off his back. A long range auto-sniper with a scope attachment. He adjusted his stance as he aimed at the windowed entrance of the building.

He could see that the ground of the building had been filled with the traitors and Circle of Yuri soldiers like he thought. At the front was the Talus Mercenary and his people. He then adjusted his aim and looked up a few floors. He could see three floors of hostages. All of them were down on the ground, crouching or laying on the ground. While there were guards walking around among them. It was the same on all three floors. He had a shot on all of them, just like he thought.

Before he could not hit them since the shielding was covering those floors. But now he could hit them. Jace did not aim for them first. He first adjusted his aim on an empty floor and fired.

The sniper barely made a whisper as a high powered shot was released crashing through a window. He was aiming at a figure that was on a desk but it missed and slammed into a computer that was to the right of the figure.

He took a moment to adjust his aim and fired again. This time the bullet just barely missed the figure and went through the building. He adjusted his aim and fired again. The figure went flying as he hit it right on.

Now that he adjusted his sniper scope he brought his sniper down and aimed at the highest hostage floor and fired. He took four quick shots. One bullet for each of the targets. The first hit the enemy in the head and he collapsed. The second was a bit off and blew off the side of an enemy. Then the third went through the side of the throat, causing blood to spew out. He knew there were children present so it would probably be traumatizing.

The fourth shot is where it went wrong. The enemy flinched and the bullet missed the killshot. Instead it grazed the side of his head and appears to have blown off an ear. They instantly turned in his direction as an additional bullet was flying through the air and hit him square in the chest. Burning right through whatever body armor he was wearing.

With all four dead without sending a warning he lowered his scope down to the next floor of hostages. This floor had five enemies. One was sitting on a chair on the opposite end of the room. But the other four were walking amongst the cowering hostages.

He took a moment to replace his magazine. Each magazine only had ten bullets so he did not want to have to risk having to reload while he was trying to shoot targets. It only took a second as the partially empty magazine bounced off the ground.

He then aimed again. He began firing five shots going from left to right. The first one’s head snapped forward before his body went limp and he fell. The second one took a bullet to the back of the skull, blowing off the back of his head, but not instantly killing him. The third was the man sitting in the chair. Since he was in the back of the room the bullet went through his head and out the window, the body and chair fell out a second later. Then the fourth bullet found its mark on the next person, smacking into the side of the head and sending him to the ground. The fifth and final bullet was a bit high and ended up blowing off the top of the skull.

He took another moment to change out to another magazine before he lowered his scope down to the third and final hostage floor. This time there were only three guarding the hostages. Two were walking around but the third was looking towards the ceiling with a frown. Jace aimed at the one looking at the ceiling first.

He fired and then stopped and blinked in surprise as he saw the person move quickly and catch the bullet out of the air. His eyes almost bulged out of his head, then he realized that it was probably a vampire. Which made sense considering they were dealing with the Circle of Yuri.

He quickly adjusted and fired two shots at the other two guards. The first one’s head disappeared in a bloody mess as the bullet impacted the side of the head. Then the second bullet slammed into the enemy’s chest killing them instantly.

Jace then turned the barrel back to the vampire who was already talking into his communication device. But Jace was fortunately able to listen in on what he was saying.

"Kill the hostages! We have outside forces-" He was cut off as Jace fired three more shots. None of which were meant to kill the enemy. But the vampire did not see that as he turned into mist and then moved through the window and toward Jace’s direction. He was going to close the distance. Jace had acted as a sufficient enough distraction. He adjusted his view and saw the hostages moved to the stairs which had the lock blown off. It was his actual target a moment ago.

Fortunately the vampire had decided he was sufficient enough of a target and ignored the hostages. The first part of his plan went off without an issue. But as he adjusted his view and saw the ground floor he realized his plan had already gone awry. The Holy Empire forces had already arrived. That was too quickly.
