Chapter 687: Chapter 376: Pitiful Even to the Eye
"Family of Wen Shulin?"
A call made Chen Cheng, who had been waiting for two hours, see hope.
He walked up and asked the nurse who came out, "I am."
The nurse showed Chen Cheng the Titanium Alloy V-shaped ring that was taken out and then said:
"The surgery was very successful, the patient will probably come out in about 10 minutes. Once the patient is fully awake, a doctor will come to check in."
Chen Cheng was very excited, "Okay, thank you."
After finishing, the nurse turned back into the operating room.
Chen Cheng stood outside the door, looking at the automatic doors that opened, seemingly seeing the hope he and Wen Shulin had been waiting for.
Ten minutes later, another nurse pushed the hospital bed out.
Wen Shulin lay quietly on it, her face slightly pale.
Chen Cheng quickly stepped forward, his gaze never leaving Wen Shulin for a moment.
He followed the hospital bed, escorting her back to the VIP ward.
The nurse skillfully transferred Wen Shulin to the bed, adjusted the bed height and the IV device, and carefully tucked her in.
"The patient’s anesthesia hasn’t completely worn off yet,"
The nurse, while skillfully operating, said to Chen Cheng, "She is still asleep now. Once the anesthesia wears off, she might feel some discomfort, like wound pain, nausea, vomiting, etc. These are normal, so there’s no need to worry too much."
Chen Cheng listened attentively.
"If the pain is more severe, you can press the call button on the bedside, and we will come to deal with it. Also, we have set up a painkiller pump for her, which can continuously relieve pain." The nurse pointed to a small device on the bedside cabinet.
"Got it."
The nurse continued to explain, "For the first six hours after the operation, the patient needs to avoid eating and drinking. Afterwards, she can start by drinking a small amount of warm water. If there are no symptoms like vomiting, then gradually transition to liquid foods, like rice soup or porridge. The diet should be light and easy to digest, avoiding spicy, stimulating, and greasy foods."
She took a few printed pages from the cabinet beside the bed and handed them to Chen Cheng, "These are postoperative dietary suggestions, listing which foods can be eaten and which should be avoided. You can refer to them."
Chen Cheng took the pages, and carefully read through them, "Okay, I got it."
The nurse added, "The patient should not get out of bed to move before passing gas. Once she does, she can get out of bed and move around a little, which will benefit postoperative recovery. However, be careful not to overexert, to avoid tearing the wound."
"Passing gas?" Chen Cheng was not quite sure what that meant.
The nurse explained, "It’s simply farting, a sign of bowel function recovery. If more than twenty-four hours pass without any gas, do inform us in time."
Chen Cheng nodded, "Alright."
"Also, the wound needs to be bandaged once a day. We will arrange for a nurse to handle it. You should observe the wound condition too. If there are any abnormalities like redness, swelling, or oozing, be sure to inform us." The nurse pointed to the wound on Wen Shulin’s abdomen, covered by gauze.
"I’ll keep an eye on it."
"Lastly..."
The nurse looked at Chen Cheng, who was a few years younger, "Are you her husband?"
"Yes."
"Ms. Wen might experience some urinary incontinence."
The nurse lifted a corner of the blanket, and only then did Chen Cheng realize that Wen Shulin wasn’t wearing pants.
She pointed to the blue plastic sheet on the white bedspread, "If this does happen, there’s no need to worry; it’s a normal postoperative phenomenon, typically resolving in a few days. We’ve already laid down a waterproof sheet, but you’ll need to replace it yourself as needed."
"Of course, if you find it inconvenient or feel unsure, you can hire a caregiver." The nurse added.
Chen Cheng pursed his lips, knowing that Wen Shulin is a proud person who would never want a stranger to see her like this.
"No problem, I’ll handle it."
Seeing that Chen Cheng understood everything, the nurse concluded by saying, "Are there any other questions?"
Chen Cheng thought for a moment and asked, "About when will she fully wake up?"
"The metabolism time for anesthesia varies by person, it may take another one or two hours, or even longer. Once she wakes up, you can give her a little warm water to soothe her throat. Remember to give it in small amounts, repeatedly." The nurse stressed again.
"Okay, understood."
After the nurse left, Chen Cheng sat by the bed, looking at her closed eyes, smoothing her hair by her temples.
"Shulin, everything’s getting better."
The ward was very quiet, with only the sounds of machines operating and Wen Shulin’s gentle breathing.
Sunlight poured through the window on her face, warm and gentle.
...
...
After an unknown length of time, Wen Shulin’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, and then slowly opened her eyes.
Her gaze was blurred, as if she had not entirely woken up, looking around in bewilderment until after a few seconds it focused on Chen Cheng’s face.
"Hu...husband." She weakly called out.
Seeing Wen Shulin awake, Chen Cheng’s tense nerves finally relaxed, and he quickly gripped her hand, "You’re awake, Shulin."
Wen Shulin blinked her eyes, trying hard to recall something.
She vaguely remembered the scene before being pushed into the operating room and the encouraging look from Chen Cheng before the surgery.
"Did... the surgery succeed?" She asked uncertainly.
"It succeeded." Chen Cheng assured her: "Everything is over now, you just need to rest well."
Hearing Chen Cheng’s response, Wen Shulin smiled faintly.
"How do you feel?"
Wen Shulin slightly furrowed her brow, shook her head, then softly murmured "Mm."
"Thirsty?" Chen Cheng immediately got up, brought over the prepared warm water, inserted a straw, and brought it to her lips, "Drink a little to moisten your throat first."
