Chapter 572: Chapter 321: The Lively West Wing Room
The next day, Chen Cheng didn’t sleep well last night, his brows slightly furrowed.
Xiao Meier had not slept all night, occasionally checking on Chen Cheng’s condition, afraid that something might be wrong with him.
Seeing his eyelids twitch, Xiao Meier gently asked, "Xiao Cheng, are you awake? How do you feel? Does it still hurt?"
Chen Cheng opened his eyes and seeing Xiao Meier’s slightly haggard face, a warmth surged in his heart.
"It’s okay, it doesn’t hurt much."
"What time is it?" he asked again.
"It’s almost eight." While speaking, Xiao Meier adjusted his pillow, "Are you hungry? I made some porridge for you."
"Not really, I’m not very hungry." Chen Cheng moved his injured arm, feeling a bit sore.
Xiao Meier immediately noticed his discomfort, "Does it hurt?"
"A bit," Chen Cheng honestly replied.
Xiao Meier tenderly caressed his arm, "It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have let you go to that party yesterday."
"What are you talking about," Chen Cheng held her hand, "How can this be your fault? It was just an accident."
"But..." Xiao Meier stopped mid-sentence, her eyes filled with self-reproach.
"Alright, stop overthinking," Chen Cheng gently tapped her hand, "Look, I’m fine."
Xiao Meier sighed, "You, always trying to act tough."
"Just a minor injury." Chen Cheng said with a smile: "Back when I was studying, Shu Biao and I would often get into scuffles too, right? This is just a scratch, nothing serious."
"How can that be the same? You guys were just fooling around back then, not to mention using knives." Xiao Meier didn’t understand and asked, "Why did you have to take the lead yesterday?"
Chen Cheng knew Xiao Meier’s concerns and also understood her meaning.
He held Xiao Meier’s hand tightly, his tone tender yet firm, "Xiao Er, I wasn’t really taking the lead. It was just that the situation was urgent yesterday, and I instinctively pulled Shulin away."
Xiao Meier looked at him, and after a long moment, she said, "I know, I’m just..."
She paused, her eyes slightly reddening, "I’m just afraid of losing you."
Chen Cheng felt pity and hugged her tightly, "Silly Er, I won’t leave you."
He patted her back, comforting her like a child, "Come on, don’t cry, see? I’m fine, right?"
"Then you should just rest at home today and not go anywhere." Xiao Meier sniffled, "Keep the wound dry, take your medication on time. If you feel unwell, call me."
"I know, my little housekeeper," Chen Cheng said with a laugh.
"I’ll go get you a bowl of porridge, and for lunch, I will have Xiao Hai bring it over." Xiao Meier stood up and walked toward the door, "Tonight, I’ll come back and cook your favorite dish."
"Okay."
After Xiao Meier left, Chen Cheng also got out of bed.
Instinctively using his hand to prop himself up, but the pain transmitted was real, "Wow, his strike was pretty fierce."
The two of them finished breakfast together, and Xiao Meier rushed off to the shop.
Chen Cheng was left alone in the siheyuan, brewed a pot of tea, ready to thoroughly enjoy the leisure time brought about by the accident.
But unexpectedly, just about seven or eight minutes after Xiao Meier left, a petite figure appeared in the yard, looking around.
"Wan Wan?"
Chen Cheng saw her through the window and quickly walked out of the house.
Seeing Chen Cheng come out, Meng Wanning immediately approached him, "Sir, how are you? Is the injury severe?"
Chen Cheng thought for a moment, "It’s okay, just a bit painful, I can’t lie down."
"Then you shouldn’t be outside, you should be resting properly inside the house." Meng Wanning was almost in tears, assisting Chen Cheng as they walked towards the west wing.
Chen Cheng leaned on the arhat bed, looking at her slightly red nose, "What brings you here?"
"Miss Chu told me last night." Meng Wanning took off her down jacket and started bustling about, "I was waiting at the entrance of the alleyway before dawn, I only came in after I saw your sister leave."
She brought a cup of hot water to Chen Cheng’s lips, "Miss Chu said, you got injured while saving Shulin, it really scared me to death."
"It’s really nothing serious, just some superficial skin wounds." Chen Cheng pretended to downplay it, yet his tone carried a hint of pride due to his "heroic injury."
"Still saying it’s nothing serious, it’s all bandaged up like this." Meng Wanning looked at the bandage on his arm with heartache, "Does it hurt?"
"It hurt a bit at first, but it’s much better now." Chen Cheng slightly frowned, pretending to be in pain.
"See, you’re still forcing yourself." Meng Wanning, feeling aggrieved, her eyes brimming with tears, "If something really happened to you, I..."
She choked up, unable to continue.
Chen Cheng, seeing her about to cry, felt somewhat guilty, reaching out to touch her head, "Silly girl, I’m really fine, don’t worry."
"You still say it’s nothing!" Meng Wanning sniffled, "What did the doctor say? Is it serious?"
Chen Cheng’s eyes darted around, deciding to continue with his act to savor the feeling of being cared for.
"The doctor said...said that I need to rest well for a while, it might take a month to fully recover."
"A month?!" Meng Wanning exclaimed, "Then it must be serious!"
Chen Cheng feigned weakness and sighed, "It’s okay, I can take care of myself."
He paused, his eyes revealing a hint of "seeking care," "It’s just...some things might be inconvenient."
"What’s inconvenient?"
Chen Cheng nodded, "Like bathing, going to the bathroom, and such."
Meng Wanning’s face flushed instantly, "So right now..."
"I need to use the restroom."
"Then I..." Meng Wanning’s face turned as red as a ripe apple, her eyes darting around, stammering without being able to speak.
Seeing her shy appearance, Chen Cheng secretly chuckled, but still pretended to be weak and powerless, "Maybe... you could step out for a moment? I might be a bit ungainly like this?"
