Chapter 108

Chapter 108: Chapter 108

Olivia’s POV

Immediately her lips touched mine, I pushed Diane away and jumped to my feet, my chest heaving with panic and anger.

"I told you I have a girlfriend!" I screamed, my voice cracking with emotion and anger. The words echoed across the quiet park, causing a few people to turn and stare.

Without waiting for her response, I stormed off toward the direction of the hotel, my hands shaking with fury. It seemed like nobody was fucking listening to me! I’d been clear from the beginning - I had a girlfriend, I loved her - though not romantically - I didn’t want this. But Maxwell had pushed, and Diane had pushed, and now...

I walked back to the hotel, too furious to stop and think about the implications of what had just happened. Diane had pressed her mouth to mine - she must have realized how soft my lips were, how different they felt from a typical man’s. The thought made my stomach churn with terror.

Well, I didn’t give a fuck at this point anymore. Let the worst happen.

When I reached our hotel room, I fumbled with the key card, my hands still trembling. I threw open the door, ready to pour all my rage on Maxwell for orchestrating this disaster, but instead I found him sleeping peacefully under the duvet.

The bastard.

He had sent me away from the room just so he could enjoy it all to himself while I dealt with his matchmaking schemes.

Well, I wouldn’t let him sleep in peace. After all, there’s no peace for the wicked.

I marched over to the bed and shook his shoulder roughly. "Sir! Sir, please wake up!"

Maxwell stirred, groaning lazily as he squinted at me through half-closed eyes. "What is it? Why are you back so early? Did something happen?"

"Sir," I said, my voice tight with anger, "she kissed me."

"What?" Maxwell sat up straight, suddenly fully awake.

"Yes! The woman you think is so great for me kissed me!"

Maxwell smacked his forehead with his palm. "Oh, Diane. She shouldn’t have done that. Not on a first date."

"That’s all you can say?" I exploded, pacing back and forth across the room. "I told you I have a girlfriend, but no one seems to be listening to me! Kira is going to be so mad when she finds out!"

"No, she won’t," Maxwell said calmly, settling back against his pillows. "Because you won’t tell her."

I stopped pacing and stared at him in disbelief. "I have to tell her. I can’t break the trust she has in me."

Maxwell shrugged with infuriating nonchalance. "Alright then, suit yourself." With that, he pulled the duvet back over his head.

I continued pacing, wondering if it was okay to drop the act now. Hopefully, after this little drama I’d just displayed, he wouldn’t bother me anymore.

Just when I was contemplating changing into my pajamas and going to bed, my phone rang, and I nearly jumped out of my skin.

The caller ID showed Kira’s name.

Perfect. This was actually perfect timing. I could show Maxwell exactly how serious and committed my relationship was, maybe then he and Diane would finally stay off my back.

I answered the phone, immediately softening my voice and putting on my most loving tone. "Hey, beautiful. I was just thinking about you."

"Hey yourself, handsome," came Kira’s hilarious voice through the speaker. "How’s Chicago treating you? Missing me yet?"

"Every second," I cooed, making sure Maxwell could hear every word. "You’re all I think about, sweetheart. This business trip can’t end soon enough."

Maxwell peeked out from under the duvet, watching me with intense eyes.

"Aww, you’re so sweet," Kira replied, clearly playing along. "So tell me about your day, baby. What did you do?"

I took a deep breath. Here goes nothing.

"Well, darling, something happened tonight that I need to tell you about. My boss’s friend Diane took me out to dinner... I’m so sorry, but she kissed me."

The scream that came through the phone was so loud and piercing that both Maxwell and I jumped. Even from across the room, Maxwell could hear Kira’s scream clearly.

"SHE DID WHAT?!" Kira shrieked. "That little homewrecker kissed MY man?!"

"Baby, baby, please calm down," I said frantically, shooting a meaningful look at Maxwell. "It wasn’t my fault, I swear! I told her about you, I told her how much I love you, but she kissed me anyway!"

"Where is she right now?" Kira demanded, her voice dangerous. "I’m booking a flight to Chicago! Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - puts their lips on my boyfriend!"

"Sweetheart, please," I pleaded, laying it on thick. "I pushed her away immediately. I told her I have the most amazing, beautiful, perfect girlfriend in the world and that I would never, ever betray you."

Maxwell was sitting up now, watching me openly.

"You better have pushed her away!" Kira continued her rage. "Oliver, you are MINE! Do you hear me? MINE! And if that woman thinks she can just waltz in and..."

"I know, princess, I know," I interrupted soothingly. "You’re the only woman I want, the only woman I’ll ever want. She could never compare to you, my love."

There was a pause, then Kira’s voice came back slightly calmer but still seething. "Did you at least tell this... this... hussy that you’re completely off limits?"

"Of course I did, angel. I stormed off and came straight back to tell you what happened. I couldn’t keep this from you - we don’t have secrets, remember?"

"Damn right we don’t!" Kira declared. "And Oliver? If I find out you enjoyed even one second of that kiss..."

"Never," I said firmly. "You’re my heart, Kira. You’re my everything. Some random woman could never make me feel what you do."

Maxwell was now staring at me with a smug face. I hoped he was beginning to understand just how serious my relationship really was - and how furious my girlfriend could get when crossed.

"Good," Kira said, her voice finally softening. "Because I love you too, baby. More than you’ll ever know. And I’m not sharing you with anyone."

"You’ll never have to," I promised. "I love you, sweetheart. So, so much."

"I love you too. Now get some sleep, and dream about me, not some Chicago homewrecker."

After I hung up, the room fell into silence.

Maxwell was staring at me with an obvious smirk. "That was intense." He finally said.

I shrugged, secretly proud of Kira’s performance. "That’s what real love looks like, sir. Maybe now you’ll understand why I’m not interested in anyone else."
