Chapter 138: How to fix a temper tantrum.

Sunshine had the lie on the tip of her tongue. "There were so many incredible things I came back with from the trip." She pushed some donuts towards Ariel. "Your job my darling baby is to eat and let mommy worry about where what you eat comes from. Do you guys like it?" She looked at the children, one by one.

"I like it the most mommy." Castiel shouted.

Earl rubbed his belly and groaned. "I think I liked it a little too much mommy."

Sunshine and Hades laughed.

Ariel smiled and yet he still chose to respond like the responsible person he was. "I told you not to over eat Earl. You do this whenever you eat something new. No more black donuts for you this week."

Earl looked at his parents, pouting and blinking. "Mom, Ariel is being mean."

"Mommy just got back, why don’t we allow her to have some peace." Hades responded. "Maybe she can tell us some stories about the world beyond the wall."

The children looked at Sunshine with eager eyes. Life beyond the walls had turned into a myth, something they could only imagine.

Sunshine started with the naked man and she added a lot of comedy to her story. Hades and the children laughed until their laughter filled the house, their joy spilling like sunlight.

Two hours later they went out to pick up their grandparents and join the group of men and women weaving blankets and jackets from the sheep’s wool. Castiel also wanted to go and see the baby that he heard about from Sunshine.

After they left, Sunshine returned to the table and sat down, facing her husband. "I can rest later, if you are about to suggest that I take a day off." she said, placing her hands on the table. "Bring me up to speed on the things happening on the base, especially about the mutated sheep. I would like to see them for myself." She rose and walked forward, planning to visit the paddock.

Hades grabbed her hand and stopped her. His eyes appeared to be troubled and he was frowning.

She got the feeling that something was wrong...terribly wrong.

"Sunshine, there is something you need to know before you go near them." Hades’ voice was low, his eyes troubled.

She frowned "What happened? Don’t tell me that they are craving human meat or something outrageous like that!"

Hades exhaled slowly, "Nothing of the sort but the mutated sheep....they are relentless now. Restless. Dr Godwin decided on a whim to add melatone powder to their last meal. He went against the orders of Doctor Soraya on the do’s and don’ts of mutated sheep."

Sunshine’s brows furrowed. "What? Why would he do that? Mutated beasts are like superhumans, you don’t just feed them anything you wish because their bodies react differently. This is simple knowledge that the vet should have known."

Hades sighed. "The old man uses his age to ignore the instructions of Soraya. We recruited him for his talents and we did not have enough time to look into his character."

Sunshine pressed her lips and lifted her eyes to the ceiling. "What a fool! The sheep already hurt one person and he decided to play mad scientist! He must be stopped before the mistake turns into a habit. Let’s go to the paddock and see the sheep. We will make a decision after I take a look at them."

Rather than driving, they walked to the second wall, taking their time. Sunshine was using this opportunity to observe the base and see the changes which it had undergone in her absence.

Hades was at her side, pointing out everything that was new. A group of men were sharpening weapons for hunting after the rain eventually stopped.

Stones were being broken or decorated in preparation for a new wall to be built to separate the outside market and the forest.

The scientists had already started an experimental water purification project, attempting to turn all the acid rain water collected into pure water.

He pointed out an area where smoke was rising and told her they were burning charcoal and bricks.

Training was going on of course. Some people were jogging, others were doing martial arts, there were those who were wrestling on a mat.

"We should change the rule on all the superhumans keeping their powers secret after awakening." She told him.

They run into some residents that were coming from the dining area in the second wall. They were carrying home breakfast, talking and laughing.

Some saluted, others smiled, some whispered about Sunshine. Siegfried was already showing the footage from what lay beyond the wall and in some of the videos, they had seen Sunshine’s fighting skills.

She smiled back at them and waved. After asking about how they were doing, she and Hades continued on to the paddocks. When they arrived, they found Soraya standing firm at the gate, her arms crossed, blocking entry. Dr. Godwin stood with a stooped back and frustrated eyes.

"You are not coming in," Soraya said sharply, her voice harder than steel. "You already did enough damage. It has been hours and the sheep won’t settle down. Unless you are providing a solution, say away."

Restless bleating was heard. Inside the paddock, the sheep shifted uneasily.

Sunshine tapped Soraya on the arm, gave Dr. Gordon a stern look and marched on inside. Hades paused to ask the soldiers some questions while she stepped closer to the paddock.

Sunshine leaned over the paddock, and she let cold mist fall from her mouth. The sheep stepped back and looked at her warily. All the ramming stopped and the restlessness died quickly.

Sunshine smirked. Nothing overcame a temper tantrum like fear. "What, aren’t you fussy anymore?"

One of the sheep let out a weak bleat as if it was responding to her, saying they were not fussy anymore.

"Now behave." She told them and backed away.

She had kept the old chip of the relaxation lullabies which calmed giant fish and when Hades told her about the mutated sheep, she figured she could try the sounds on them.

Sunshine placed a small portable battery operated speaker on the ground and let the lullabies soothe the sheep.

Soraya turned to her, exhaustion weighing down her face. "What is that?"

"A lullaby." Sunshine answered.

Soraya yawned. "I hope it works because I am in need of sleep as well. We have been stuffing them with water all night and feeding them. I think they will be fine soon."

Sunshine gave a curt nod, "Good job. Thank you for all your efforts. You should go and rest now, they will not be fussy anymore."

She turned around, her gaze met Doctor Godwin’s. "Walk with me."

The old doctor hesitated, but her tone left no room for refusal. He followed her past the watchful soldiers who could tell that he was in trouble. Some of them were hoping to see him being scolded.

As they could not, they followed Hades to the paddock to look at the sheep and find out what was the need for the lullabies which sounded like a recording under the sea.

Sunshine and Doctor Godwin got into a car and it drove them to the information center. Inside, they passed newcomers being processed at registration. A lot of women were fussing over the baby.

Sunshine’s mind caught all that was going on but her thoughts stayed fixed on the man following her.

When they reached the quiet of the office, she sat down and asked Doctor Godwin to do the same. Unexpectedly, Hades also walked into the office. She had assumed that he had remained in the paddock.

It seemed like he had not stayed long and he had driven over quickly to stand by her side. They were a team and a power couple.

He sat down beside her and both of them looked at the ashen faced Doctor sternly.

"I won’t waste any time." Sunshine started. "Doctor Godwin, you deliberately ignored Doctor Soraya’s instructions and drugged the mutated sheep, bringing danger to this base. Your insubordination has consequences."
