Chapter 156: Opportunity.

Chapter 156: Opportunity.

Ever since the rain stopped, Sunshine had instructed the comms officers on the base to fly radios off the base and drop them in crowded areas where survivors were. It was the only other way to save more people in the apocalypse.

More than a hundred radios had been dropped in different zones that she knew where safe or habitable enough.

Today was the first time she would communicate to the outside world using these radios. She was doing so in the lounge of the information center. Only Lisha was with her. Bob and Robo-dog did not count as they were not humans.

Lisha was having a late breakfast, eating cereal from a medium sized food flask slowly. Sunshine had got a whiff of the milk she had used and realized it was from the same milk powder she distributed for children.

Where Lisha had got hers from was a mystery. It was likely she had traded something for it.

The computer beeped and Lisha used the handle of her spoon to push a button on the keyboard and read the message. "Molly Gadriel got into a fight with her neighbor." She read out loud what it said.

Sunshine scoffed. "It looks like she is the new Helena Drew."

"Remind me again about why we don’t charge these people rent?" Lisha asked.

Sunshine twirled her chair slowly. "Because if we make them pay rent then they will feel entitled. Suddenly they will be throwing out words like "I paid for this house" and then it will be difficult to throw out those that misbehave."

Lisha licked her lips. "Crap! why didn’t I think of that? If they give us money then they will become entitled."

Sunshine nodded. "We own everything so they have zero opinions on how we run the base. The moment we give them rights, they will become a problem for us."

Lisha smiled at Sunshine, liking her sister-in-law even more. "Sister-in-law, I knew that I liked you for a reason."

Sunshine scoffed. "You threw your clothes at me once because I did the laundry and they didn’t smell right."

Lisha twisted her lips. "Suni, that was the past. I was in wrong and I apologize."

"You are supposed to call me aunt." Sunshine leaned forward. "Why haven’t I heard you calling me aunt?"

Lisha nearly choked on the milk. How could she call Sunshine aunt when they were basically age mates? It made more sense to call her sister. But, she loved calling her sister-in-law even more.

She had noticed that Sunshine dotted on her more and have her nice things when she called her sister-in-law in a coquettish voice.

"Sister-in-law..." she leaned forward, pouting like a child. "I want black hole donuts." Lisha rubbed her head against Sunshine’s arm like Bob.

Sunshine sighed. "Pick some up from home. And drop some off for the rest of them family. Just make sure that you tell Ariel how many donuts you have taken because everyone had passed their quarter for the month already."

Lisha whispered a victorious "yes..."

Sunshine noticed on a computer that the signal had finally connected to forty three radios so she started broadcasting her message.

"Greeting survivors on this end of the world. I am sure that you have all noticed the snow and the increasing cold weather. Some of you have heard about what is coming and others have not. Some of you believe it and others do not."

How could she forget what had happened on the Liora islands?

"To believe or not, the choice is yours." She said. "Right now, the cold has not yet become extreme so some of you are trying to get back to your old jobs.

Don’t.

Within three to seven days, most of you will not be able to walk outside without turning into pillars of ice. I advise you to prepare what you can in order to stay in doors for at least three months.

Close your windows, lock your doors. Sleep in groups to accumulate warmth. Collect things like coal, charcoal and wood. Stock up on warm clothes.

Stay away from the large alien birds. Do not talk to them, do not attack them and do not provoke them. They take all forms of attempts to communicate as a sign of aggression.

If you meet any other mutated monsters, run or hide unless you are a superhuman with the confidence to take them down. If not, wait until weapons strong enough to repel these monsters reach you.

If you don’t know about green zones I will read them out for you. I would like to remind you that these places are good for survival and were likely impacted less by acid rain but it doesn’t mean they don’t need rebuilding. Also, they don’t have food and you need to handle that on your own.

Crater hold valley in Azzion city, Fort Spiral in Colleville New York, Echo Basin on Sower tooth mountains, Fort Saltwater in Wooluth town. The Drift lands of Javed desert, Mariam Central gardens in Mayor’s town. Angel’s Hollow in Utah national park. Bloom land in the TX ridges, most of the caves in The Grid, Ruston city. The Rainhounds mountain, Camp Zenith, Camp Pitbull, Camp Desire, Fort Graceland.

If you can make your way there, you have a higher chance to survive.

If you are not aware of Red zones I will name those we have become aware of. The whole city of Detroit. Urban areas of Babel city, Fort Slide, Ashy rift, Iron howl town, Mississippi central, Fort Follow, The White house grounds, Red way basin, Majestic pearl hotel and all areas around it.

If you are listening to me and you are there right now, I advise you to move as quickly as possible. Nobody is coming to save you. Not the president and not the army. Get up and save yourselves.

Protect these radios because we will be sharing survival tips with you every once in a while. I wish you all the best."

She ended the broadcast.

Lisha looked at the radio with a thoughtful look on her face. "Will they believe you?"

Sunshine shrugged. "I am giving them the opportunity to survive. Whether they grasp it or not is entirely up to them. You will need to broadcast a few messages weekly. Remember not to mention where the communication is coming from." She stood up, mind already focused on her next task.

From the information center, she went outside and Carson blocked her off. He had been moved to the first wall because he was a superhuman. He was no longer staying in doors as there was no more need to hide.

He was pacing nervously like something was about to explode. "Something happened at the White house." He said with urgency.

Sunshine relaxed. There was trouble but it was not at her base so she was okay. "What happened and how do you know?"

He raised the walkie-talkie in his hand. "I asked one of the comms officers to help me tap into the encrypted radio frequency used by the secret service. I did not expect it to work but it did and we heard something terrible. There was so much screaming and something about birds attacking."

Sunshine looked up, her eyes dwelled on the two watchers that were sleeping on top of the bubble like it was their air bed.

"That reckless fool Ceasar probably provoked them." She said. The White house was not just a red zone, it was one of the hottest zones thanks to Ceasar. Hopefully, those that had survived would make a run for it.
