Central Region, Demon Thunder City
A vast and endless forest stretched before them, the lush green brimming with life and vigor.
Within this forest, a grand and towering stone plaza stood prominently.
The stone plaza, supported by countless massive basalt columns, was elevated about a hundred zhang above the ground. From afar, it resembled a giant standing between heaven and earth, exuding an awe-inspiring grandeur.
Above the plaza, the space shimmered with distortion, silver light flickering intermittently as figures emerged, lightly landing on the stone platform.
The expansive plaza was now teeming with people, their boisterous chatter soaring to the skies.
"Shhh..."
The air distorted violently again as several figures appeared, landing steadily on the giant stone platform.
"This should be the Thunderstone Plaza marked on the map. Looks like we didn’t take the wrong path," Xiao Yixian remarked with a faint smile, glancing at Mo Yu.
"Hmm." Mo Yu nodded, his gaze sweeping over the colossal platform.
With his sharp senses, he could easily detect that the auras present were all quite formidable, some even requiring him to take them seriously.
"As expected of the Young Master’s Clan. The ones invited to observe the Captain’s Assessment are all true elites. Their influence is truly terrifying," Qing Lin commented, a hint of awe flashing across her delicate face as she took in her surroundings.
Mo Yu smiled faintly and looked eastward. At the edge of his vision, the outline of a massive city loomed.
"That must be our destination, Demon Thunder City. Let’s go."
Curiosity flickered in Mo Yu’s eyes as he spoke.
Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin had no objections, and the group wasted no time. With a flicker of their figures, they soared into the sky, heading toward the distant city outline.
Although the forest was vast, it posed no challenge to the trio. In less than ten minutes, the enormous city became clear in their view.
The city exuded a domineering aura, its towering walls seemingly forged from rocks imbued with thunderous power, making them incredibly sturdy.
Under the sunlight, the city emitted a black sheen, akin to a gathering storm, captivating and intimidating.
To Mo Yu, unless more than ten Dou Zun experts joined forces, destroying this impregnable city was nothing but a pipe dream.
As they drew closer, the trio noticed that the majestic city was enveloped in a faintly transparent barrier.
Though the barrier appeared fragile, it exuded a soul-deep oppressive aura.
The pressure caused many to pale. Those familiar with the city’s origins displayed a reverent expression.
"This Demon Thunder City is a relic from ancient times, reportedly built by a Dou Di expert from the Lei Clan. That barrier contains a trace of the Dou Di’s power.
"With its inherent sturdiness and the protection of the barrier, this city is as impregnable as a fortress," Xiao Yixian said softly, indicating she had gathered substantial information before their journey.
"Dou Di’s power, huh?"
Mo Yu nodded, a flicker of longing in his eyes.
The Dou Di realm was his current goal. Reaching it would enable him to shatter the void and enter the Great Thousand World, where he could seek his two enemies.
"To show respect for the Dou Di expert, flying within a thousand zhang of Demon Thunder City is prohibited. Let’s proceed on foot; otherwise, the pressure will only intensify," Xiao Yixian added.
Mo Yu naturally wouldn’t break such long-standing customs. He nodded and descended first.
Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin followed closely. After landing, they didn’t slow their pace, moving swiftly toward the imposing city.
At the city gates, the trio finally halted their steps.
Demon Thunder City wasn’t a place one could casually enter. Without an invitation from the Lei Clan, ordinary individuals were generally denied entry.
Mo Yu and his companions joined the line, moving forward steadily until they reached the gate.
Scanning the area, Mo Yu noticed nearly a hundred black-armored figures on either side of the gate, holding long spears and standing upright. Their sharp, icy gazes swept across the surroundings.
The powerful auras emanating from these guards were a testament to the Lei Clan’s might.
When it was Mo Yu’s turn, he didn’t present an invitation. Instead, he pulled out a black, ancient token from his sleeve.
Upon seeing the token, the Lei Clan guard froze briefly. After a closer inspection, his expression changed dramatically.
"Salute to the Captain!"
Returning the Black Demon Token with great reverence, the Lei Clan guard immediately knelt, his voice resounding with respect.
Seeing this, the other guards exchanged shocked glances before following suit. All knelt in unison, respectfully chanting, "Salute to the Captain!"
The synchronized salute at the city gate instantly drew countless onlookers. Witnessing this scene, they were all stunned.
The Lei Clan, one of the eight ancient clans, might not be the strongest, but their pride exceeded even that of the Gu Clan and the Hun Clan.
Known for their fiery tempers and reverence for strength, earning their sincere respect was no easy feat.
"That silver-eyed youth... could he be Mo Yu, the recently rising Lord of Yuan Manor in the Western Region?"
"Mo Yu? Didn’t he rise to prominence from the northwest? How could he be a member of the Lei Clan, let alone a captain?"
"I heard this Lord of Yuan Manor is adept at wielding thunder, even causing trouble for the Hall of Souls. If he truly belongs to the Lei Clan, it all makes sense..."
The murmurs spread as the crowd gradually recognized Mo Yu.
Seeing that Mo Yu was not only the Lord of Yuan Manor but also a Lei Clan captain, many speculated that the Lei Clan’s support was the reason behind his rapid rise.
Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin frowned slightly, their expressions tinged with indignation.
They knew Yuan Manor was entirely Mo Yu’s creation, with no connection to the Lei Clan whatsoever.
At present, Mo Yu’s achievements were being attributed to the support of the Lei Clan. This was undoubtedly a great insult to Mo Yu, and in the eyes of Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin, it was absolutely unacceptable.
However, Mo Yu himself seemed unfazed. He calmly waved his hand, stopping Xiao Yixian from voicing her objections. Then, gazing at the Lei Clan powerhouse in front of him, he said indifferently,
"Since you’ve recognized my identity, can I enter the city now?"
Hearing this, the Lei Clan powerhouse quickly nodded respectfully and said, "Since it’s you, Captain, of course, you may enter."
With that, the Lei Clan powerhouse gestured, and the Lei Clan guards behind him immediately made way.
Seeing this, Mo Yu nodded toward Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin. Just as the three were about to enter the city, a discordant voice suddenly rang out.
"Wait! Who gave you permission to let them in without authorization?"
At the city gate, a young figure appeared, standing tall and upright.
The man was handsome, with a straight posture. He wore armor that emitted a faint black glow, adding a touch of coldness to his demeanor. The cloak on his back swayed in the wind, enhancing his commanding presence.
As his cold shout echoed, countless gazes instantly shifted toward him, landing on the two figures with curiosity and surprise.
After all, from what the Lei Clan powerhouse had said earlier, Mo Yu was a captain of the Black Thunder Banner, a position of considerable importance within the Lei Clan.
However, judging by the current scene, although Mo Yu held the title of Black Thunder Banner Captain, his standing within the Lei Clan appeared far from stable. At the very least, this young Lei Clan powerhouse seemed to regard him with disdain.
"Lord Mu Mang, this is the Captain of the Black Thunder Banner..." the Lei Clan powerhouse quickly stepped forward to explain upon seeing the man in black armor.
Mu Mang was the son of the Mu Clan patriarch, one of the four subsidiary families under the Lei Clan, and thus held a significant position. Naturally, the Lei Clan powerhouse treated him with great respect.
Mo Yu had already taken note of this surname. According to his intel, the four subsidiary families of the Lei Clan were Mo, Mang, Lin, and Mu.
Among them, the Mu Clan was on par with the Mang Clan in terms of strength, boasting a large number of powerhouses.
"Captain of the Black Thunder Banner?" Mu Mang raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, sizing Mo Yu up before curling his lips into a mocking smile.
"The Black Thunder Banner... If I remember correctly, its captain is that Mo Yu from the Mo Clan, the one who sits on his laurels without accomplishing anything. But, do you have any proof of your identity?
This Demon Thunder City is a critical passage connecting the Lei Realm to the outside world. How could we let anyone in without thorough investigation? If any trouble arises, can you, a mere gatekeeper, bear the responsibility?"
The sarcasm in Mu Mang’s tone was evident, but Mo Yu remained unfazed. His expression stayed calm as he flicked his finger, sending a Black Demon Token shooting toward Mu Mang with sharp momentum.
"Hmph!"
Mu Mang’s expression darkened. With a cold snort, he extended his hand, wrapped in crackling thunder dou qi, and grabbed the token mid-air.
"Zzz!"
However, as soon as he clasped the token, a terrifying surge of lightning erupted from it, scorching his palm black.
The intense pain caused Mu Mang’s face to darken further, but being no ordinary figure, he gritted his teeth and endured it.
"This is indeed the Black Demon Token, symbolizing the Captain of the Black Thunder Banner, but it doesn’t prove your identity. Who’s to say you didn’t steal it from that Mo Clan trash? After all, he only gained the clan lord’s temporary favor. His strength is nothing worth mentioning," Mu Mang sneered, his words dripping with disdain.
The Lei Realm was isolated from the world, and news from the outside rarely reached them. Evidently, Mu Mang was unaware of Mo Yu’s fearsome exploits in Zhongzhou.
"The rules of the Black Demon Army are clear: possessing the token is equivalent to the presence of the Captain himself. If you don’t understand the rules, seek guidance from your elders. Now, return the token," Mo Yu said flatly.
Mo Yu’s calm demeanor made Mu Mang grit his teeth in fury. He gripped the Black Demon Token tightly and sneered, "Come and get it if you can!"
Swoosh!
As soon as Mu Mang finished speaking, he suddenly felt his vision blur. The token he had been clutching was instantly snatched away, now resting in Mo Yu’s hand.
This scene left Mu Mang’s face burning red with humiliation. He had just issued a challenge, only to have the token seized in an instant. His loss of face was monumental.
"You scoundrel!"
Embarrassed and furious, Mu Mang momentarily forgot Mo Yu’s status. With a roar, he unleashed a powerful thunder palm strike toward Mo Yu.
Boom!
The thunderous palm strike roared forward, but before it could reach its target, Mu Mang’s vision blurred again. A lightning-fast leg crashed heavily into his chest, sending him flying into the city wall.
Bang!
Falling to the ground, Mu Mang spat out a mouthful of blood, his face filled with shock and disbelief.
As the son of the Mu Clan patriarch, his talent and strength were exceptional. As a one-star Dou Zun, he was quite renowned within the Lei Clan. Yet, he was defeated with a single kick by someone from the exiled Mo Clan. This was an unbearable humiliation.
The onlookers, however, were not overly surprised. Clearly, they had heard of Mo Yu’s impressive battle records.
"To defy your superior is a grave offense in the Lei Clan. Next time, you won’t be so lucky," Mo Yu said coldly, retrieving his Black Demon Token.
"Seize him!"
Seeing Mo Yu’s indifferent expression, Mu Mang’s eyes turned bloodshot as he roared in fury.
However, despite his orders, the hundred Lei Clan guards in black armor at the city gate merely exchanged glances, none daring to act.
In the Lei Clan, hierarchy was strictly upheld. To lay hands on a Captain was unthinkable.
Seeing this, Mu Mang’s face twisted in humiliation, and he spat out another mouthful of blood before collapsing unconscious.
