Chapter 255

Chapter 255: Chapter 255

It is extreme to think of... Yet this place merits such. It has proved to be dangerous, and it’s comprehensible since our demise should happen soon.

A bit of my dark side emerges at times... At times that deserve it.

But I’m fast enough to dismiss it with the little distractions we have at hand.

... Literally.

Paige had brought us the book the purple worm had given us.

And if I’m honest... I love to be on kind of a "sickness leave" right now since I haven’t had much time to read it after arriving at the palace.

I actually want to finish it before we get back to the duchy. I have a few things I want to discuss with the four eyes about this book.

It’s a bit of a thriller. So having a discussion will be truly fun and interesting.

The name is: "Moning is not when the sun rises."... Quite an intriguing name if you ask me.

But. Until now... It’s confusing.

There is this guy who lives a "plebs" life with his wife. It’s quite nice. It shows his daily life as a working man who brings the bread to their house with great effort as his wife also helps to make a living.

The thing is...

’This woman is not nice at all!

Through half of the book, the man has been quite... Tender when dealing with her.

Trying to make her happy with little details he could provide with their low income, this guy would go and try to make his wife feel loved in their marriage.

I guess it’s not that far from what could happen in a real marriage. But I still feel the man is doing everything he can to satisfy the woman.

’...She shows herself nice at times but... Dude... You can’t just throw his bowl as if he’s a dog... He has enough dealing with the annoying boss he has at the walls...’

Annoyed at the woman’s actions, I couldn’t get myself to understand why she was so cold and so nice at times.

He even worked at a construction site where he had to build a wall to protect the grounds of a lord or something.

But...

’He starved all day to give you those three roses! Show a d*mn smile and kiss him!! He deserves some affection you witch!!’

Right now. She’s just basically ignoring the poor man!... I know she hides something...

And, thankfully, I can take my time reading this bit today.

I only have more or less sixty to eighty pages left. So it’s time for us to get in full reading mode to discover what it is that this woman hides.

*******

"..."

’... Sh–Should I hate... Or like that worm for this...?’

Pondering with the closed book in front of me, leaning as I try to get my mind out of the gutter the book send it to... I asked my kind but conflicted heart.

’Is this real?... Like... I’m shocked... I didn’t expect that plot twist at all.’

"..."

’I mean... She freaking killed him... ’cause she loved him(???)’

"____"

’... I still... I can’t really... Give me a second because I’m also still digesting it.’

Okay. Let’s see.

So. Apparently, the guy wasn’t that nice.

In the last few pages, the woman’s side was shown. And... Dayum~ that just changed my whole view of the story...

The man had married another woman before his current wife. She knew this but the ex was dead.

He was kind as he was during most of the book and enamoured her. However! A few years later, while cleaning their house, she found a white piece hidden between her Husband’s things.

... Turns out... It was his ex’s piece of a bone... To which at night the guy would whisper that a friend would join it soon... Who I believe referred to his current wife.

’..... An actual murderer...’

I have to say... It freaked me out quite a bit for many reasons. Specifically, because we have a pair of psychos roaming around us... We attract the psycho types.

... Either way... Because of that, the woman stopped being affectionate.

She even worked during the nights... As an actual prostitute to earn more money and leave the town without him suspecting... Or that’s what I understood. Which didn’t happen in the end.

’He found the d*mn money... And if she didn’t kill him.... It was her who would die I guess...’

But... I still don’t get it.

’Her words at the end... They make no sense.’

[ You did not kill her. I love you for this. This female is to have you again yet I will own you.]

’..... I don’t get it. So he really didn’t kill the ex?? Or... Was she like... Excusing his crime because she loved him??? And "have you again"??? Is she talking about a future? As in the guy will reincarnate and find the other woman and repeat the story???? She even seemed happy(?) But...’

"...."

’... Maybe we should hate the purple worm for now...’

Sigh... He’s... Bloody hell the book is good.

I should have started reading it when I was still at the duchy... If not because I read more of the children’s book out of curiosity back then, I could have talked to Theodore about it.

I wouldn’t have asked for spoilers since that’s not fun... But as a fellow reader, he would drop some hints about it, right? At least to warn me I would be this shocked once finishing it.

Knock knock.

"?" — The sound of my door made me take my eyes away from the book I’d been glaring at.

Paige went immediately to answer whoever was outside. And I found it interesting since they usually announced who it was. But then, I understood the lack of it by the thoughtful volume they used to ask about Marianne... About us.

"... Is the Lady available? I reckon she should be resting..."

"! Yes. Please let me announce your presence, your Highness."

From my spot, I couldn’t really see the person outside... But... It was obvious to my ears.

"My Lady Marianne, the Crown Prince has come to your presence..."

Paige’s eyes moved, pointing behind her as if asking me what to do while he was literally listening because she left the door open.

’J–Just let him come in! Don’t act all weird!’ — Moving my head in permission, a bit annoyed at her obvious mischief when making it impossible for me to even refuse, I stood from my seat to receive the Crown Prince... Timely recalling the note he had left on my night table.

’... He... He did come, huh...’ — I told Anne, feeling oddly shy.

"....."

It’s nice he keeps his word...

"Good day, my Lady Marianne."

His voice resounded nicely in our room. Husky. So befitting of his handsome appearance that made my maiden heart shake again.

"..."

Our silence was a must... And giving the proper reverence basic manners demanded, I greeted the man... That one I missed when I woke up this morning.

*******

She was looking downwards, pressing her skirt’s front in nervousness while waiting for Zeleskiaz to enter her Chambers.

Unaware that his eyes were already on her, the Crown Prince entered in silent steps to admire her appearance. Struggling to let his greeting disturb the sight of the lovely woman, whose loose strands moved cleanly to permit the sun’s light paint as it fell on her visage with nature’s delightful colour.

Wavering exhalation left him as he observed his beloved. And an agitated swallow followed... Before his greeting could emit sound.

"..... Good day, My Lady Marianne..."

Watching her greet him, the hands he maintained behind his back flexed anxious to caress her divine beauty.

’You look... Breathtaking, My Love...’ — Zeleskiaz sighed inside, entranced by the delightful sensation a sultry chest could be when in love.

Shortly after a tense silence, Marianne unfolded her limb to offer a seat to the man. And thankfully, even when in trance, Zeleskiaz would heed any motion to please her intentions.

"... Thank you. However, I ought to ask if I am not imposing myself on you... Perhaps my Lady wishes to rest... yet..." — The slight loss of composed mannerisms was portrayed as he spoke looking downwards... For the woman’s sight could distract his heart. Allowing him only to lift his yearning hues to meet hers when saying these following words. — "I had committed to join you... And my desire to honour such promise led me here nonetheless."

"....."

She felt fluttery shy, for she was aware that was the case... And his confession of it made her more glad on it, that her shoulders shrank a little at the impact his whole presence inflicted over the woman.

Once again, her permission came.

Taking her original seat, Marianne stared at the Crown Prince, offering a seat one more time with her hand.

’It’s fine... So take a seat, Prince.’

Somehow respectful in speech, Marianne compelled her willingness to receive his visit.

Hence, as if her words had reached him, Zeleskiaz paced where she pointed and took his seat.

"..."

Facing her, he took a moment... And once his eyes needed the rest of a blink, a soft smile he could only dedicate to who she is came to inhabit the severe expression he had forced himself to carry.

"... Has My Lady’s rest been marvellous as I wished?"

’..... Ah... His voice...’

The paced melody his voice conceived when commencing conversation was dreamy to the ears of the woman. Inducing the souls’s delight at every mention of a word he had left in her stack that dawn.

’He said it... With his voice...’
