Chapter 316: You already know what I want to ask

"Yes. It’s a bit complicated, so I can’t explain it, but I’m sorry. I promise to make it up to you another time."

After his words, a little silence enveloped the dining table and then I sighed, breaking it as I picked up my chopsticks again.

"Well, it’s fine," I said, smiling to assure him. "I can always go with someone else. Or stay home."

I was planning to start going to the gym anyway so maybe this works out fine. But before then, I turned to Min-Cheol.

"How about you? Are you free to take me to your company tomorrow?" As soon as I asked this, a glow of delight washed over his face.

He seemed pleased that I turned to him right away, instead of Jin-Yeok but after getting over it, he realized he was in the same situation and dropped his head sadly.

"I’m sorry, Hyung. Things are also quite chaotic where I am as well."

Hm? I tilted my head.

What was going on? How was it that they were both having the same problem? Maybe not the same problem but it was chaotic in both companies at the same time.

Did this have to do with their natural enemy? No, they should’ve been able to notice their movements for a while now.

Then, was it an unexpected twist?

Did someone suddenly grow impatient and mess up the important collaboration between these two companies?

I could only think of that, but well, I don’t want to go into it too much.

From the start, I already knew I had messed up the entire plot. So, the way the enemies acted won’t exactly correspond completely with the way it happened in the novel.

I’m sure they’ll be able to work it out in the long run.

But if it feels like it’s getting out of hand, I might have to take a look.

So, I turned to Jin-Yeok, who was waiting with sparkling, anticipating eyes. He knew I would ask him next so he prepared for it. His response was going to be golden, perhaps.

Then, without even asking, it looked like I would spend the next day with Jin-Yeok.

"Why aren’t you asking?" He asked as he noticed I wasn’t saying a word to him and was just staring.

"You already know what I want to ask, though." I said but he shook his head.

"It’s more fun if Jo-Pil asks straight up."

Well, alright.

"Then, master, can you take me to your company tomorrow?" I asked and then he responded with what I least expected.

"Haha, sorry but I can’t."

I stared blankly and then blinked. He can’t? Did he just say he can’t?

"I don’t plan on going to the company tomorrow and I was invited to an event in the evening as well. I’ll be attending that after staying home all day." He explained and I glared at him with scrutinizing eyes.

If it was going to be like this then why did he anticipate getting asked so much?

I placed my hand on my head and wondered if I was lacking sugar cause I was coming up with a slight headache.

Let’s just eat. I’m probably just hungry. I’ll drink my soup before it gets cold.

"But Jo-Pil," he reached his hand towards me, still smiling. "Wouldn’t you like to go to that event with me?" He asked and I stared with my spoon hanging in my mouth.

"What event?" I asked.

I don’t remember any events like this from the novel.

"Just as I said, a pretty event with pretty people trying to impress me." He said. "But it’s going to be very boring. So, won’t you come with me?"

I gave it a thought.

It was probably something similar to a banquet or something like that. But while I thought of this, Ki-hoon clenched his chopsticks tight and asked,

"You plan to take him to ’that’ event?" His voice sounded rough and filled with anger but I couldn’t see it.

I couldn’t see properly why he was angry. It was just an event, right?

"If it’s the one I’m thinking about then you’re being a bit too much." Min-Cheol also added, his face twisted in disapproval and it made me wonder what exactly this event was all about.

"And so you think I would do anything to hurt Jo-Pil? I simply want to give him a glance at the outside world." Jin-Yeok explained and then looked back at me. "He’s always cooped up at home and doesn’t even know what’s going on outside."

"Oblivion is bliss," Ki-hoon said. "Please do not worry Jo-Pil’s heart unnecessarily."

"Haha, you shouldn’t worry. I’ll take good care of him."

The atmosphere at the dining table became heavy, and I gulped, still drinking my soup though. Just what was this event that got these Alphas at the edge of their seats?

It was concerning. The lightning bolts bolting over the air were even more concerning.

’Can I at least have my meal in peace?’ I wondered but I was still curious.

It didn’t look like anyone was going to tell me what it was, yet. But since I’m going to attend, I was bound to find out what it was about.

I decided to change the somewhat depressing subject and said,

"Fine, I’ll go," I said. "Thank you for the invitation."

"Haha, you’re welcome, Jo-Pil," Jin-Yeok said, looking pleased.

The look in his eyes, though. Had he been killing in the past few weeks, we didn’t talk?

I’ll have to address that.

"I think I’m full," Min-Cheol said, dropping his cutlery and standing up, but I immediately recalled I had something important to discuss with him.

"Oh, Little Min, can you wait for me in my room? I want to talk to you about something." I said, and he looked at me, surprised for a bit before blushing.

What’s this? I only want to discuss his grudge with Seo-Jun.

He probably won’t think of that and thinks it’s something ’intimate’ related.

"A-alright." He said, and he gullibly walked away.

How cute.

"What about me?" Jin-Yeok suddenly asked, staring with fluttering eyelashes.

Right. I need to address the issue with him so...

"Once I’m done talking with Min-Cheol, I also need to talk to you so please, even if it’s too much to ask, don’t sleep yet."
