Chapter 692: Chapter 437: Sugoroku Day (Part 3)
Fushimi Roku was quite displeased; this guy kept stealing his tricks, which was really annoying to Fushimi.
He casually popped open the bottle cap and said, "I’m not accepting this thing, it’s too expensive, just give me ten thousand yen."
Taira Sakurako turned to look at Minamoto Tamako and instigated, "If everyone pays, wouldn’t that be gambling?"
Minamoto Tamako thought it made sense, thinking that the admission fee only needed to express goodwill, and there was no need to be so serious. Besides, if it really came down to wagering ten thousand yen, she would feel a bit of heartache, so she immediately opposed it: "Good kids shouldn’t gamble, Mr. Deer, your thoughts are very dangerous!"
Two votes against one, Fushimi Roku had no choice but to submit to the majority.
To demonstrate her sincere goodwill, Minamoto Tamako put up half a watermelon from the fridge, which she had bought on her way back from the police station.
Fushimi Roku felt he was losing out, but seeing Minamoto Tamako and Taira Sakurako so eager and ready, he thought taking this ten thousand yen away from them would be very satisfying.
"Then let’s start, rock-paper-scissors to decide who throws the dice first."
Fushimi Roku finished speaking and added a few more words: "To ensure fairness in the game, let’s add two new rules: if you refuse to carry out a punishment, you’ll need to stay in place for one round, is that okay?"
"No problem." Minamoto Tamako nodded.
"Alright." Taira Sakurako concurred.
"Also, to increase competitiveness, after rolling the dice, you can choose whether or not to move the full number of spaces. For example, if you roll a six, you can choose to move one, two, three, four, five, or six spaces; if you roll a five, you can choose one to five, and so on, but if you roll a one, you can only move one... that’s okay, right?" Fushimi Roku asked.
Minamoto Tamako thought for a moment; if someone landed on a space with a punishment, the other player could selectively avoid it, maintaining a balance of back-and-forth competition so that no unlucky person would fall too far behind.
She herself might be that unlucky one, so for safety, she agreed to the rule.
The three reached a consensus, and the game officially began.
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
The three formed a circle and played simultaneously. Fushimi Roku, quick-eyed and agile, slightly delayed his play, predicting mid-way and switching from scissors to rock.
Taira Sakurako and Minamoto Tamako both played scissors, so he won and gained the advantage of going first, able to roll the dice first; then Taira Sakurako and Minamoto Tamako threw rock-paper-scissors, with Minamoto Tamako losing again, so Taira Sakurako would roll second.
"Going first is prone to hit a mine, I lost on purpose." Minamoto Tamako said sourly.
"Alright, alright."
Fushimi Roku didn’t mind her snarky words; he remembered what he wrote on the grid, so when he rolled the dice, he gently tossed it onto the paper, hoping to at least roll a three.
Unfortunately, without any dice rolling or gambler skills, he only rolled a two.
The second square was a note written by Fushimi Roku, which said "imitate a pig squealing." He didn’t want that, and moved only one square forward, landing on a note written by Minamoto Tamako.
"Ugh, darn!" Minamoto Tamako angrily pounded on the tatami.
Fushimi Roku lifted the note and saw underneath it said "advance five spaces."
Taira Sakurako glanced sideways at Minamoto Tamako and asked, "Why would you write something like that?"
"Helping others is good! Besides, if Mr. Deer rolled a six and I rolled a one, I could just catch up with him, right?" Minamoto Tamako was not happy, feeling like what she prepared to help others ended up being to her disadvantage, like being played.
"Thanks, thanks, kind person."
Fushimi Roku picked up the little toy figure and moved it five spaces forward, landing right on a note he had written himself.
He pressed down on the toy figure’s head with his index finger, not letting go because he remembered this note underneath said "return to the starting point."
"..."
Fushimi Roku, pinching the toy figure’s head, said, "It’s not good to be too greedy; stepping back can open up new possibilities, I’ll just move four spaces."
His initial intention in writing this note was to prevent the luckiest from rolling a six at the start; if he himself rolled a six, he could simply move five steps to avoid the trap.
"No way!" Taira Sakurako suddenly protested; she had figured it out, Fushimi Roku simply didn’t dare land on spaces he wrote, knowing they were all pitfalls: "If the note requires moving five spaces, you must move five; requirements must be followed, only after rolling dice can you choose how many spaces."
Minamoto Tamako also sensed something was up and nodded in agreement: "It’s a gentleman’s game, Mr. Deer, you can’t cheat!"
"..."
Fushimi Roku had no choice; it was indeed a gentleman’s game, and cheating wouldn’t be fun. So, he moved the five spaces and flipped over his own note, returning to the starting point.
"Wahahahahahaha!!" Minamoto Tamako let out a gleeful laugh.
"Hold it in, you haven’t even started yet." Fushimi Roku glanced sideways.
Minamoto Tamako had no intention of holding back; the victorious should mercilessly mock the weak, that’s what makes the game fun, kakaka!
While the two were bickering, Taira Sakurako seized the chance to throw the dice. She was about to manipulate it with her little hand but noticed Fushimi Roku watching her out of the corner of his eye, so she refrained from doing anything bad and just watched as the dice wobbled and finally stopped.
She rolled a four.
Taira Sakurako didn’t move four spaces but opted to move three.
The third square was a note she had written. She lifted it, and Fushimi Roku and Minamoto Tamako leaned in for a look, only to see it said: "Player landing on this space can peek at any note."
"Wow, that’s just cheating!" Minamoto Tamako said.
Taira Sakurako quietly leaned in, whispering in Minamoto Tamako’s ear: "I’m scouting ahead for you, so we can take first and second place, how nice."
Minamoto Tamako immediately changed her tune: "But then again, without prior rules, I think it’s fair."
