Chapter 310: Our Company’s Biggest Artist
Cassie could not bear to have her role stolen, she slapped Brooke’s hand away, and raised her hand to hit her, but before her hand could come in contact with Brooke’s cheek, the woman lunged forward, collapsing into Ethan’s arms.
"Ah!" Brooke cried, holding the side of her face.
Ethan defensively held tightly onto her, "Are you okay? Did she hurt you?" he whispered in a panicked frenzy.
Brooke sniffled, "Why would you hit me? Is it bad that I tried to help us retain that contract?" she asked, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Cassie! Have you lost your mind? What sort of petty jealousy is this?!" Ethan scolded harshly.
Cassie stared at her hand, she had hit Brooke so many times that she knew the satisfying sensation that came with it. She was positive that she had not hit her Brooke was merely faking it.
"I didn’t hit her-"
Ethan cut her off, "Don’t lie! We all know how much you hate Brooke, but this is taking it too far."
Brooke snuggled into his embrace, "Don’t yell, she’s pregnant after all. It must’ve been a mood swing."
A board member chimed in, "That isn’t an excuse! Your face right now is our company’s biggest asset. We cannot have it compromised."
The rest agreed, and demanded Cassie apologize for hitting Brooke.
But she refused to yield, "I’d rather resign than apologize to this wench!" she snorted, "Or have you lot forgotten just who built this company from scratch, there are so many companies out there wanting to poach me." Back when Luther was still around, there would be offers monthly by competitors to try and steal her away.
But her father blocked them all.
If Brooke wanted her scraps, she could have them, she would just move on to a better company. Like Damien’s company that had just made her an ambassador, she would fare better there.
Unmoved, the president said, "You are always free to leave Cassie," she started off, surprising Cassie that she hadn’t fallen for her bluff. She went on, "However, you would be breaching your contract with this agency and have to pay a hefty fine. And then, there’s Luther’s debt, no matter what anyone says, you’re still his legal daughter, so I will be hot on your tail for compensation payment."
The more she spoke, the more nervous Cassie became. ’Would that old man pay back this debt?"’ she was still testing waters with Julian, she did not want the old man to desert her over something so trivial.
Her thoughts were penetrated when Brooke spoke, "That is too much, I don’t want Cassie to suffer because of me, especially after she’s shown so much support at my movie premier. Her fiance was also kind enough to let me into this company. Let’s just let bygones be bygones."
"But Brooke-"
She pulled away, "Mr Halton, I really am fine. I’m honored to work alongside your fiance, I just hope she feels the same way." she said, her expression embodying everything innocent.
Her act moved the board members into feeling pity for her, and even made them begin to question what it was about Brooke that made her so hated, in comparison to Cassie, she was a blinding angel.
"Well said," the president said, to Cassie she cautioned, "I’ll overlook your behavior today, but next time I won’t be so considerate. Thank your stars Brooke is such a kind hearted person." she said before adjourning the meeting and ending the call.
After the meeting ended, the board members surrounded Brooke offering their congratulations for the role landed.
Cassie however pushed her way past them and stood in front of her half sister, a disgusted look on her face, "You come with me." she tried to grab her wrist, but the men in uniform blocked her path, they formed a wall around Brooke, separating them.
Brooke wiped her wrist, as though it had been stained, "If there’s anything you’d like to say to me, we can discuss it here. Or maybe later at my welcome party."
Cassie frowned, "Welcome party? Who the hell is throwing you a welcome party."
Brooke gave her a quirky little smirk, "I’ve worked at this company long enough to know how things operate. And don’t worry, I’ll make sure you have the best table at the party, so you can watch everything unfold before your eyes." she promised, then made her exit.
Cassie tried to go after her, but Ethan held her back, "Behave yourself, while I’m still asking nicely." he said into her ear, then went after Brooke.
"Brooke." she gritted her teeth, "I’ll get you back for this, I swear on this baby’s life. You’ll pay for this." she muttered to herself.
While this went on, Matthew had caused a stir in the Grayson household when he announced over dinner that he would be taking over a project William was meant to handle.
Naturally, his grandmother and uncle did not take his declaration seriously. Had it been Thane who said something of the sort, they maybe would’ve been more on edge.
However, his uninspiring younger brother was no threat to their plans.
Or so they thought.
"What the hell do you mean you’re seceding your authority over this project?!" His father, Edward scolded after he had just gotten the news from his head of staff.
Sophia sat down on the nearest sofa, catching her breath. Her informant at the company had told her the news, and she swiftly made her way to the company to find out what had gone wrong.
"It’s true, grandmother, father, I am transferring this project to Matthew-" before he could finish speaking, his father cracked a slap across his face.
William rolled his tongue around his mouth, spreading the pain.
"Say it isn’t so! Those illegitimate bastards are ruthless!" First it was the upcoming marriage into the Rosamund family, and now they were stealing projects from them.
Fuming, Edward grabbed his son by the collar and glared sharply into his eyes, "This project cannot be taken by those bastards! It’s too precious! I don’t care what they threatened you with, but make sure we bag that deal!" he scolded, his grip on his shirt tightening...
