Chapter 701: Chapter 701: Huai Du is Pregnant, See How You Guarantee It
Why did Xiaobao’s question make him feel embarrassed?
This was the first time she had seen this man show such emotion; in her impression, he was always strategizing, as if everything was under his control.
Zhixi vaguely felt that she might have grasped something…
Xiaobao was still eagerly waiting for his dad’s answer, when suddenly, he found himself hanging in mid-air. With a yell, he realized he was sitting on his mom’s lap.
Zhixi looked at him sternly, “Don’t ask for a little sister or little brother again! Do you know how hard it is for mom to have a brother or sister? When mom had you, a cut was made on her belly!”
Xiaobao’s face turned pale with fright, “Really… Really?”
“Of course,” Zhixi nodded affirmatively, “If we’re not careful, mom might even die.”
At this, Xiaobao burst into tears, tightly hugging her neck, “Mommy, I don’t want a little sister anymore! I don’t want you to die!”
Zhixi didn’t expect his reaction to be so intense, leaving her caught between laughter and tears.
“Xiaobao, dear, mommy won’t die,” she soothed him for a while, feeling inevitably guilty at the bottom of her heart.
He Jingyao’s dark gaze fell on her as she hastily comforted their son, and a hint of amusement suddenly appeared in his eyes.
Though he had no reason, he was inexplicably certain that this woman had said such things to Xiaobao simply to spare him the discomfort.
Xiaobao finally calmed down, turned to look at He Jingyao, his voice still quivering, “Daddy, mommy won’t be hurt, right?”
“Of course,” He Jingyao smiled slightly, “Daddy promises you.”
Xiaobao seemed more convinced by his words, rubbed his eyes, and finally stopped crying.
He Jingyao chuckled as he took the little guy into his arms, holding him close.
Zhixi watched him seriously wipe Xiaobao’s tears, unable to resist an inner snide remark… Now that the baby was on the way, she wondered how he would keep that promise.
…
It wasn’t long before the car arrived at Wanhe Qianfeng Garden.
After getting out, He Jingyao handed Xiaobao over to Uncle Li, telling the little one, “Grandma and auntie are inside, why don’t you go in with Uncle first, okay?”
“Then… what about you and mommy?” he blinked.
“Daddy and mommy will come soon,” He Jingyao ruffled his head.
Xiaobao obediently nodded. The youngster was never shy, even strangers could quickly coax him into joy, so he wasn’t afraid at all to meet his grandma and auntie, whom he had never seen before.
Watching Xiaobao being carried inside by Uncle Li, Zhixi then turned her gaze to He Jingyao, “Why did you let Xiaobao go in alone?”
The man looked at her, then suddenly smiled, his long legs closing in, capturing her hands and pinning her against the car.
Zhixi jumped in surprise, her eyes wide, “He Jingyao!”
“Don’t you have something you want to ask me?” he quirked an eyebrow.
Zhixi’s gaze flickered, and she eventually couldn’t help but ask softly, “I… never knew how you were cured.”
He Jingyao stretched out his hand to pinch her chin, his touch light yet undeniably assertive and domineering.
“What do you think?” His voice was somewhat lazy.
“Is it possible… that all these years you never stopped looking for a cure?” Zhixi spoke softly, “Maybe even before I came back, you had already found it, but you didn’t rush to get treated because… the method had serious side effects?”
