Chapter 855: The Red Night Event
As dusk fell, the sky shifted from a calm blue into a deep, ominous red…
Every survivor in the world saw this…
Soon, the shelters’ barriers were triggered in preparation for what was about to come.
One by one, the lights flickered as if reacting to the energy that enveloped the world.
Soon, a chill wind swept through the shelter…
Then, all at once, they heard a familiar sound.
[ Global System Announcement: The Red Night Event has begun ]
There was a chime that echoed in every survivor’s mind.
Soon, the system interface appeared before all registered Survivors.
[ Event Title: The Red Night ]
[ Status: Commencing Now ]
[ Duration: 24 Hours ]
[ Attention, Survivors! The countdown has ended. The Red Moon has risen. ]
[ From this moment onward, the Red Night shall engulf all Sectors. ]
[ Zombie activity has reached Critical Levels. ]
[ Mutation frequency: x3 ]
[ Hostile presence: Unending ]
[ Territory stability: Compromised ]
[ All shelters, clans, and independent survivors are now under global evaluation. ]
[ The Global System will now begin tallying Individual Contribution Points (ICP) and Clan Contribution Points (CCP). ]
“It’s starting…” Shane muttered as he saw the notification from the system.
Behind him, the soft sound of footsteps echoed.
It was Anna, she just finished dressing up in a Tier 5 alchemical suit. She walked closer to Shane while adjusting the straps on her gloves.
“The wait is finally over… Seventy-two hours of preparation… and now it all comes down to this.”
Shane gave a faint nod as his gaze turned to the window, looking at the crimson sky..
“We’ve done everything we could. The rest… We’ll handle it as it comes.”
Anna knew what Shane had done over the past few days, and she was confident that Shane was the best leader there was.
“We can win this…”
“Yes… It will not be easy, but we can.” Shane replied. “We’re ready.”
Nonetheless, the system notification didn’t end just yet.
[ Event Mechanics Activated ]
[ 1. Blood Surge ]
All undead gain increased Attributes, Speed, and Aggression. Mutated strains will appear without warning. Even lesser zombies may exhibit strange evolutions.
[ 2. Domain Break ]
Zombie Lords are no longer restricted to their territories. Expect random Lord-class incursions into human sectors. Each defeat grants immense Contribution Points.
[ 3. Horde Protocol ]
Massive waves will form dynamically. The System will mark incoming hordes on your regional map every 2 hours. Survivors may choose to defend, intercept, or retreat.
[ 4. Bloodmark Variants ]
New zombie types have been detected. Bloodmarked, Corrupted, and Infested classes. Each drop rare materials, Red Zombie Cores, and potential Relics.
[ 5. Relic Discovery ]
During the Red Night, slain Lord-class enemies and certain mutated Zombies may drop Red Crystals – ancient artifacts containing unknown energy.
Red Crystals can be exchanged after the event for high-tier weapons, shelter upgrades, or unique evolution paths.
[ 6. Global Ranking ]
Your every action will be monitored and ranked:
Zombies Defeated
Bosses Slain
Territory Defended
Survivors Rescued
Resources Obtained
[ Your combined score contributes to both your Individual and Clan standings. ]
Shane and the others had already been somewhat informed about this… Nonetheless, Shane turned his attention to the Bloodmarked, Corrupted, and Infested Classes.
They might have to build a communication channel so they could easily spot these special Zombies.
As for the rankings, Shane didn’t really care. His main objective was survival and not rewards after all.
Still, the system provided everyone about the reward they might obtain, probably to encourage them to work harder.
[ All participants who endure until the end will receive: Red Night Survivor Title ]
[ Top 100 Individuals, Top 20 Clan, Top 10 Clan, and Top 1 Clan will also receive special rewards.
[ Additional Hidden Objectives:
Hidden Quests will be available depending on Sector performance and survivor actions.
Completing them may unlock: Special Territory Events, Artifact Blueprints, or Lost Technology Fragments.
The probability of a Hidden Quest Trigger increases every hour a successful defense was made. ]
[ Final Notice ]
[ Once the Red Night begins, the system will not pause. ]
[ Survive. Endure. Protect your Shelter. Gather points. Raise your banner. ]
[ The Red Night is here. ]
Just like that, Shane saw that the horizon seemed like it was bleeding red.
However, it was just thousands of zombies moving towards his Eclipse Domain Shelter!
Through the command tower’s monitor, Shane could already see them crawling, running, and tripping over each other as they came.
‘Not the low-tier crawler and runner zombies for sure…’ Shane mused as he saw some were even dragging torn limbs, others ran on all fours, as they rushed forward
“First wave’s here. Cloud…”
[ Warden Unit Series – Online ]
[ Mk.V Turrets – Ready ]
[ Flamethrower Nodes – Ready ]
[ Perimeter Traps – Ready ]
From the walls of Eclipse Domain Shelter, dozens of mechanical figures marched into position.
The Warden Units, humanoid robots clad in black Master Grade Armor, moved.
Each carried a heavy-caliber rifle and a mounted shoulder cannon.
Indeed, the Warden Units this time were built to fight against a horde of Zombies.
Anna, still beside Shane, adjusted her goggles and looked at the situation. She was just silent and allowed Shane and Cloud to work together.
[ Turrets are synced. ]
“Alright… Wait until they’re within range and open fire…” Shane replied.
“Let them get closer… I want maximum efficiency.”
The first hundred meters vanished under the undead’s stampede.
Their screeches and gurgling cries rose like a storm.
[ Range: 400 Meters ]
[ Turret Systems Ready – Target Lock Confirmed ]
Cloud reported.
“Now…” Shane ordered as he saw the Zombies in range… For now, no Survivors would fight on the frontline as he planned to use his expendable resources first…
Then, before the Zombies could even deal with the traps, they were already bombarded by their long-range weapons!
Rows of MK.V Auto-Turrets activated, spitting streams of energy bullets that shredded through the first ranks of the zombies.
The snipers positioned on the upper walls also began their synchronized volleys. They couldn’t properly see the Zombies because of the red moonlight, but each shot dropped a crawler before it even reached the outer perimeter.
“Warden Units, engage formation Delta-Seven!” Shane commanded.
The front line of robots advanced… Then, all at once, their shoulder cannons launched bursts of blue plasma that detonated in the swarm!
Boom! Boom!
