Chapter 656 Distress

Chapter 656: 656 Distress

The two of them had lunch at a restaurant at noon and bought some eggs before heading up the mountain.

Da Biao and his group in the Capital already knew that the sister-in-law was now at the Shushan Taoist Temple.

"We don’t need to rush. It’s good in the Daoist Temple too; maybe it will help her find some peace?"

"What are you thinking? There’s no way the sister-in-law is considering becoming a nun."

"Why would she? With her personality, she wouldn’t become a nun!"

Listening to Chengzi and Hu Zi bicker, the others remained silent.

"Be careful on this trip," Da Biao advised them.

"We know, we’ve all received the information."

"By the way, that Yang Chunsheng has been over twice. There are also two letters here from the sister-in-law."

"I’ll head to Shushan then. My task is nearby, and I can deliver the letters to the sister-in-law," Hu Zi said softly.

"That’s all we can do. Ask when she’ll be back?"

Hu Zi nodded. He would definitely ask, but the hope of the sister-in-law returning was really slim.

Since they had news of the sister-in-law, the six of them set off separately to complete their tasks.

The next day, the three of them, Zeng Hongling, and the two Daoist priests were sitting on the rooftop cultivating at dawn.

Su Yuanyuan was sleeping by herself, which was fine.

After breakfast, the two girls carried baskets and machetes up the mountain.

Zeng Hongling was clueless about herbs, and to avoid causing damage, neither of them picked anything.

Su Yuanyuan suddenly noticed an animal that looked like a wolf, but different in some ways.

It appeared quite fierce. Now, the two girls were worried and unsure of what to do. Their combat power probably wasn’t enough.

"Yuanyuan, what’s wrong?"

"It seems like something’s moving. Listen."

"Yuanyuan, those are wolves! What should we do? Shouldn’t we hurry down the mountain?"

"Is it still possible? If they catch up to us, we’re finished."

As Su Yuanyuan was speaking, three wolves rushed over.

"Now we can’t leave even if we wanted to."

"There’s no way out; we have to try."

"Yuanyuan, I’m scared. Can the two of us handle this?"

"We have to, even if we can’t. There’s no time to run now."

The two girls stood back-to-back, tightly gripping their machetes.

The three wolves didn’t attack immediately but circled them, and Su Yuanyuan felt like they were searching for an opportunity.

They couldn’t afford to be distracted now and kept a tense watch on the wolves.

The waiting was the hardest part. Both of them were very scared, and it was easy to break down.

"They’re going to move. Be careful."

Zeng Hongling responded nervously. She knew martial arts, but dealing with wild wolves was not something she was confident in.

As Su Yuanyuan had guessed, the three wolves charged at them simultaneously, forcing the two girls to defensively swing their machetes to keep them at a distance.

The two girls were no match for the three wolves; soon, they were separated, and both were in a sorry state, already injured. Though not bitten, the wolf claws were incredibly sharp.

Su Yuanyuan was surrounded by two wolves, making her even more disheveled.

Zeng Hongling was extremely anxious; her martial arts weren’t outstanding, but she could handle two or three men. Yet dealing with these wolves was tremendously difficult, and now she had two bleeding wounds on her arm.

With the scent of blood, the wild wolves were even more excited.

Su Yuanyuan was far more severely injured than Zeng Hongling. With their lives at stake and no other option,

she pulled out a gun from her space and shot at one of the wolves.

Hearing the gunshot, Zeng Hongling breathed a sigh of relief, knowing they wouldn’t die so miserably now.

Su Yuanyuan took down one wolf with the first shot, then fired a second and third shot.

All three wolves were shot, and the two women finally collapsed to the ground.

"Yuanyuan, you saved me."

Su Yuanyuan was also panting heavily, shaking her head, "No."

Zeng Hongling suddenly saw a wolf charging at Su Yuanyuan and could only shout in warning before throwing herself onto Yuanyuan.

This wolf was seeking revenge, biting down fiercely.

Su Yuanyuan hadn’t noticed earlier, but upon seeing Zeng Hongling’s expression, she knew something was wrong. As she was knocked down, she used her Divine Sense to halt the wolf and then shot it. The wolf still fell.

Zeng Hongling had acted purely on instinct, thinking she would be bitten. But after hearing the gunshot and feeling no pain, she was finally relieved.

"That scared me to death."

"Get up, it’s uncomfortable being pressed down like this."

Zeng Hongling moved aside and lay on the ground, still not fully recovering, feeling weak and soft in her limbs.

In the Daoist Temple, the four men heard the gunshots, put down their books, and rushed outside.

Their speed was evenly matched, all worried about the girls’ safety, wanting to get there quickly.

Zhan Yunzhao and Wan Zhongming had years of Tai Chi practice, and Zeng Yixin and Wei Guangxiang were young and trained regularly, so their speed was genuinely fast.

When they reached the mountain top, they saw the two girls, one sitting, the other lying on the ground,

Zeng Yixin was terrified, rushing to his sister’s side, seeing that she was lying on the ground, injured but alive.

"Yixin, I’m okay."

This finally put Zeng Yixin at ease. Seeing Su Yuanyuan sitting, also injured, but in better condition than his sister.

Wei Guangxiang approached Su Yuanyuan, extending a hand to help her up. However, Su Yuanyuan pushed herself up with one hand.

"I’m fine."

Only then could the four men truly relax.

"Young friend, your gunshot scared us all."

"Thank you, Daoist priest. Are there many wolves in this mountain?"

"I’ve seen five or six. As for any others, I haven’t seen them. But there should be quite a few, right? They do reproduce."

"Su Yuanyuan, let’s go down the mountain. Even with a gun, a pack of wolves could still be dangerous."

"Let’s go back. I didn’t expect such fierce animals on this mountain."

"There’s also a leopard, but I’ve only seen it once in all these years. Let’s go. It’s best to go together when climbing the mountain, so there’s backup when encountering wild beasts."

Su Yuanyuan nodded in agreement, and she and Zeng Hongling walked ahead. The three wolves were carried down by Wei Guangxiang and the others.

"Wolf meat isn’t tasty; it’s sour," Wan Zhongming remarked as they walked.

"The wolf skins should be kept. We have no use for wolf bones," commented Zhan Yunzhao.

"Then let’s take the wolf meat down the mountain to sell it."

Su Yuanyuan listened to their discussion about the uses of wolves as they walked. She hadn’t known much about it before, but selling the wolf meat sounded like a good idea.
