Chapter 278: Is this hell?

Chapter 278: Is this hell?

"Ugh, where are we?" Barry clutched his head, struggling to stand up as the world was spinning in his eyes. All he remembered was a flash of light and then waking up on the cold ground.

"That’s a rhetorical question, right? Because how the fuck would we know where we are?" Kai helped up his girls as they, too, were disoriented. He rubbed Sasha’s back as she threw up from dizziness.

"Honestly, I was expecting someone to come out of the shadows and tell us where we are."

"Heh, classic fantasy trope." Kai chuckled.

Kyana looked around, making sure not to whip her head around too fast. "We entered some portal, right. We’re either somewhere else in the world, or in another dimension."

"We’re in another dimension," Nadya confirmed.

Everyone turned to her. "How do you know?"

"Well, for one, the water is on fire."

To be more specific, the water WAS fire. It was so weird that everyone didn’t even know what they were looking at. Somehow, the water moved like fire but was a liquid. It didn’t even look like lava. It was literally flaming water. Or watery fire. Who knows.

"Okay. Now that’s creepy."

"What is this place? Hell?"

Amaya walked over to the water. She leaned forward, feeling the temperature, but it wasn’t hot at all. "Do you think we can touch it?"

"I don’t think that’s a good idea," Kai said while dunking his hand in the water.

"W-What? You’re literally touching it!"

"Hehe, I know. Pretty cool, right?"

"Kai, stop playing around." Kyana was getting the creeps being in this place. She didn’t know why she decided to tag along. Not only was there a lot of water in this dimension, but the water was also on fire.

"My bad, I’ll relax. But honestly, I think this water is okay for us to touch." Kai even took a sip, and he was perfectly fine.

Nadya looked around, spotting an island off in the distance. "Do you think the ship can float on this...Fire...Water....Fwater....Wire?"

Kai made an X with his arms. "Strike! You’re out! Wire is a word, Nadya."

"Aw, man."

The ship managed to float on the fire, rocking as if it were on water. It didn’t burn or anything of the sort. Because of this, everyone assumed that water and fire had reversed properties in this dimension they were in.

As they set sail, they took this time to look around the place, trying to figure out where they were or if there was some form of life.

The sky was pitch black, and the only light came from the burning sea. Each Island looked exactly the same, black soil with no life whatsoever. It reminded everyone of what the destroyed city looked like.

On one of the islands they passed by, there were signs of life, or at least signs of civilization. Houses and other buildings were clearly once present there, but they were now destroyed.

They docked on the Island, taking a look around to see if there was someone there.

"Kai, over here!" Barry called out to him.

Kai teleported to his location and looked at what Barry called him over there for.

"A corpse," Kai muttered, looking around to see if there were any more. He wasn’t able to determine the race of the being since it was badly burned.

"I found something as well." Patty handed Kai what looked to be a sword, but it was broken in half. However, that wasn’t all. There was blood on the broken blade.

"There was definitely a fight here, recently as well." He rubbed his fingers on the blood. "Check the blood, it hasn’t dried fully."

"Kai, check this out." Cornelia handed Kai what seemed to be a crown. It was a fancy one at that, but not over the top.

"A crown? Could this be somewhere around the Castle? Maybe like a secret dimension for the royal family members?"

"No, that’s not the crown the king and queen wear," Barry informed them. He knew that they weren’t from this land and that they had never met the king and queen before, so his information was vital.

"Then it’s definitely another dimension." Sasha nodded.

Gwen agreed, but also added to her statement. "It could be another continent. There are seven, and we’ve only been to two of them."

"There are seven continents?" Iris and Patty were still coming to terms with Kai and his girls being from another continent, but now they learned that there are seven of them? Their heads nearly exploded.

"Yeah. We’re going to visit all of them and kill all the demon kings along the way. Anyway, these people were clearly fighting for something." Kai said as he examined the crown.

"Or they were protecting something," Amaya added. "Besides, the smell here is... familiar."

"I-I smell it too!" Patty exclaimed, running over to Amaya.

"What? What does it smell like?" If they had a clue where they were at, then Kai wanted to know so he could map it on his...map.

’Leo, can you still hear me?’

’Why wouldn’t I be able to?’ He asked

’I don’t know. What if this was a place where you couldn’t see?’

’Do you know who I am?’

’A fucking dumbass that’s who you are.’

’I sometimes question if we’re related. You’re so rude.’

’Dude, you literally killed all of your children before me. I should be questioning you!’

Leo nodded. ’Fair point.’

"This place, it smells like...Kin." Amaya and Patty said at the same time.

"Kin? As in your race?" Gwen asked

Patty nodded. "Yes. But it’s different."

"How different."

"Um, I don’t really know how to explain it. But it feels like we’re related but not related at the same time."

"Like Gwen and the dragons?" Kai asked

"Yes! Just like that!" Amaya remembered Gwen saying that the dragons recognize them as kin because of the dragon hearts.

"If that’s the case, then let’s continue to look around until we find any of the beastkin here. They might have a way for us to leave this place."

They continued to search the island they were on, finding nothing else. After their search, they traveled to another island to see if there was anything there.

However, while they were searching, they were being watched from afar by an unknown group of individuals with unknown intentions.
