Chapter 263: Your backup has arrvived
"Barry!"
"I know!"
Currently, Barry, Iris, and Patty were running for their lives while being chased by a massive demonic beast with a demon lord who was riding on it. They got a message saying that demon activity was going on in the area they were currently in, and they went there to investigate.
Upon arriving, they walked into a trap, barely being able to escape it, but once they did, the demon of the area, a demon lord, attacked them, even bringing along his pet, which was a massive demonic turtle that did not move slowly at all.
"Running away so soon, little hero? We haven’t had time to chat yet!" The demon tapped the turtle’s shell, and the beast opened its mouth, firing a stream of acid.
"Patty, watch out!" Barry lept onto Patty, forcing them both to the ground as the acid barely missed them.
The demon cursed. "Damn, so close."
"Barry, do something!" Iris yelled, her sword drawn, but she was clearly scared as her body was shaking uncontrollably.
Barry didn’t like the fact that he felt powerless at the moment. He hated this feeling. He was the hero, a person blessed by the goddess who was meant to defeat demons and their king. He wasn’t a coward.
"Stand back." Barry walked forward with a new sense of confidence running through his veins. He had to protect his friends, and he had to fulfill his duty.
"So, the little hero in training is going to take me on, huh? I welcome this! My King will reward me well after I bring back your head!"
"The only head that will be severed today is yours, demon!" Barry drew his hero’s sword, its light shining with glory and purpose.
"That sword is the only thing that can harm me, but since you are weak, that will do NOTHING!"
The demon launched himself off the turtle, rocketing toward Barry at high speed. He grabbed the hero’s head, slamming it into the ground while his hand started pulsing with demonic energy.
"Nnnghhh!" Barry tried to push him off, but the demon was stronger than he was.
"Get off him!" Patty cast an earth spell, which made the ground turn into a fist and punch the demon.
However, the demon casually punched the rock, not sustaining any damage.
"Hyah!" Iris came down with her blade, putting all her strength into the attack.
"Really?" The demon caught the sword. "If your hero can’t stop me, what makes you think your chances are any better?" With his other hand, he flicked Iris away, sending her tumbling into trees.
Now that Barry wasn’t being pressed against the ground, he punched the demon in the face, then slashed at his chest.
The demon moved quickly so the hero’s sword wouldn’t harm him in the long run, but a small cut did manage to damage his cheek.
"You little mongrel!"
Barry chuckled. "Insult me all you want, you’re going down today, demon!" His sword turned into a shield and spear
"Your weapon of choice DOES NOT MATTER!" The demon didn’t hold back this time and broke through Barry’s defenses.
The shield that Barry was using nearly shattered, and his spear flew out of his hands.
"Attack those two bitches, my pet!" The demon ordered the turtle
Iris got up, relocating her dislocated arm. "Dammit! Come on, Patty, let’s take this beast down so we can help Barry!"
"Right!" Patty joined her and started casting spells.
Barry summoned his spear, and it flew toward him, nearly piercing the demon’s back, but he moved before it could.
"In the name of the goddess, I will cut you down!" Barry moved as fast as the wind, thrusting his spear at the demon. Each miss was etched into his brain, forcing him to make the proper calculations so he wouldn’t miss a second time.
The demon dodged, then counterattacked, but Barry blocked and counterattacked on his own.
"As expected of the hero. When you’re pushed back, you gain more strength!" The demon was elated, being able to battle the hero even though Barry wasn’t at his full strength. The hero was the greatest threat to the demons, and getting rid of him now will guarantee their victory.
"And with this strength, I’ll kill you!" Barry turned his shield and spear back into a sword, water coiled around the blade, glowing a brilliant blue light as he slashed down.
The demon smiled, gathering all of the demonic power he could, and caught the sword. His hand nearly came off, and the pain was out of this world, but he held on.
"I’d like to see you try!" The demon clobbered Barry in the chest, breaking his bones and knocking the wind out of him.
The hero was flung through trees and rocks, his momentum not stopping until he collided with a large boulder.
"Arghhh!" He bellowed in pain, vomiting blood.
At the same moment, Iris and Patty were heavily injured by the demonic turtle beast and could barely hold on.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, little boy hero, all alone with no one to help you. You should have stayed in the church to train more. But fortunately for us, you’re a fucking dumbass."
"I agree."
The demon laughed. "See, even he agrees....Wait, who the fuck are you?!" He turned around to see one man and six women just casually strolling the area as if a fight wasn’t happening right now.
The man pointed at Barry. "I’m his backup."
"Oh, so the church sent reinforcements, huh? No matter, I’ll kill you all in an instant."
Kai sighed. "Hey, man, we just arrived here and were not expecting a fight. Tell you what, you just get out of here, and we’ll also be on our way. Sounds good?"
"Fuck no!" The demon punched Kai in the face so hard that his hand literally shattered.
"Oh, demon lord! What the hell is your face made out of?!" The demon paused, then looked at Kai’s uninjured face.
"C-Can I take that offer now?"
"No."
"Dammit."
The demon didn’t even try to fight back. He could feel the power difference between them and just accepted his fate.
