Chapter 261: Partners
"My goddess! Your chosen hero, Barry Trashen, has arrived." Barry kneeled down in front of Aquaphina the moment he arrived in her realm, who did not have a happy expression on her face.
In fact, her expression was neutral, neither happy nor upset. It was as if she wanted to see him just for business, which she did.
"How was your recent subjection of the demons in the village?" She asked.
"It was a success. We managed to eliminate every demon present." He said, not looking at her since she didn’t say he could.
"Anything else?"
"We’ve learned that some pirates were working with the demons. They were blocking trade and emergency aid. We managed to take care of them as well."
She nodded. "Are they dead?"
"No, I’ve sent them to jail where they will face trial. I told them that they can repent if they see that they truly are disgusted by their ways and want to change. Your benevolence knows no bounds, and I’m sure you’d be happy to guide them to the right path."
Aquaphina was silent for a bit. She hated this side of Barry and even told him that it was okay for him to take the lives of people like the pirates. But he insisted on rehabilitating them.
"I see. Well, that’s okay. I have something to tell you. You will be getting a new partner soon."
"A new partner? Who are they, if you don’t mind me asking?"
"His name is Kai LuForia, and he’s not from this land. He’s from a different continent, and on that continent, he is the hero."
"Another hero? That’s amazing! I can’t wait to meet him!"
The goddess rolled her eyes. "Yes, but that’s not all. He managed to slay the demon king of his land. I think he will be very helpful in your quest."
"H-He killed the demon king of his land? Just how strong is he? I’m not strong enough to do that yet!"
"He’s very strong. But also very childish. Though I will say I do like his personality. Anyway, you do not need to seek him out as he is coming to you. This is all." She waved her hand, and Barry was gone, back in the mortal realm.
When he opened his eyes, he was standing next to Patty and Iris in a bedroom in the village they had just liberated.
"How was our talk?" Iris asked
Barry smiled. "We’ll be getting a new partner soon."
---
"Where the fuck are we even supposed to go? All I know is north! Wait, he could be done with his business in the north and be heading south! Fuck! Where’s the hero GPS when you need it?"
"What is a GPS?" Amaya asked who was lying her head on his lap.
"It stands for Global Positioning System. It allows you to track something regardless of its location on the planet." He responded while scratching her head.
"Wow! That’s cool! How does it work?"
"Well, you build a satellite and launch it into space and... never mind, it’s too much to explain." He just continued to scratch her head.
"Can’t you just ask the goddess?" Kyana knew Kai could call upon Gracia when he wanted or needed her, so she figured he could do the same thing with the goddess Aquaphina, especially since she’s the one who wants his help.
"You know, I never thought about that." He cleared his throat. "Hello, is this thing on? Aquaphina, I need you for a moment."
He waited for a bit, not understanding how divine calls work, especially since he wasn’t a premium member of her phone network (he’s not her hero). Thirty minutes passed, and no one answered his call.
So, he kept shouting, blasting magic into the air, cursing her name, and doing a lot more to get her attention, but nothing worked.
"Leo." He called.
"Yo." Leo appeared next to him in an instant.
"What the fuck?!"
"Who’s that?"
"Where did he come from?"
"Is he a threat?"
"Calm down, guys, he’s not a threat," Kai reassured them. "He’s my father...sort of."
"What do you mean sort of?" He punched Kai in the arm.
"Uhh, because you didn’t raise me."
"I was there with you since you were an infant!"
"Posing as my best friend, not my dad!"
"Ungrateful kids."
"Fuck off!"
Gwen elbowed Kyana and whispered in her ear. "That’s his dad? They look alike. He’s just an older Kai with a beard."
"If that’s his dad, then is he the one who Kai says is a god?" Kyana asked
"Maybe. Wanna test it out?"
"Absolutely."
"How the hell can I be ungrateful if you were never even there to begin with. Bro, I literally thanked you for these powers and shit!" Kai was still arguing with Leo, trying to get his point across.
"E-Excuse me, Mister LuForia?" Gwen called out.
"Oh, no, that’s his mother’s last name, not mine. Just call me Leo." He smiled
"I see where Kai gets his charm from," Nadya whispered.
"So, Kai always says that you’re a god. Is that true?"
"Yeah. Why wouldn’t it be? Well, technically, I’m not a god, but a higher-level being. But for you mortals, I’m a god." He explained
"What?" Amaya had no Idea what that meant.
"So does this mean you gave Kai his awesome powers?"
"Yes." He nodded.
"Hmmm. Prove it." Kyana challenged him.
Kai nearly choked. "Really, Kyana? You know he can wipe you from existence in an instant, right? Don’t do that, by the way."
"You need me to summon Aquaphina, right?" Leo asked his son
"Yeah." Kai nodded
"Great, I’ll just call her down then." Leo flicked the air, and space nearly collapsed in on itself.
Aquaphina, who was preoccupied with something else, felt the disturbance and quickly fixed it before any damage could be done.
"Who the fuck nearly destroyed the space around the continent that I govern over?!" She descended in the form of an avatar right in front of Kai and Leo.
Kai waved. "Sup."
"S-S-S-S-S-S-Supreme one!" She got on her knees and hands so fast that when she lowered her head, it slammed into the ground. She even brought her real body so that she wouldn’t be seen as disrespectful.
Leo smiled. "Hello, Aquaphina. My son needs to have a chat with you."
