Chapter 412: Chapter 411: Encounter
If it weren’t for the fear that Mei Langchi hadn’t gone far, she really wanted to laugh out loud to release her happiness.
"Mei Langchi, you can’t shake me off, huh? A thousand bucks to settle me, no way."
Mei Langchi must be very regretful now, very annoyed, he couldn’t possibly have missed that red stain on the bed. That was something she had put there by pricking her fingers with a needle. He slept with a "pure young lady," she didn’t believe he could be at ease, without a single twinge of guilt.
She would find an opportunity to see him again.
...
In the morning, Han Yi borrowed the tricycle from his mother-in-law and took Lin Wan to the hospital for a prenatal check-up.
The baby and mother were both fine, the doctor advised eating more fruits and vegetables. However, it was bitterly cold at the moment, and vegetables were rare, let alone fruits. Except for frozen pears, there were jujubes.
Then the two went to the department store.
They bought some fabric, shoes and socks, and some candies, sunflower seeds, and snacks. Bought quite a few frozen pears. Han Yi said to bring them to the department, dfui team. It was required to eat two every day.
Alright then, for the child, she obeyed.
They bought Han Yi a pair of waterproof leather boots. She got a pair for herself too.
When they went to the grain oil store, they also stopped by the photo studio to drop off rolls of film they’d taken recently, telling them to collect it in a week, emphasizing the importance of confidentiality, unseen by outsiders. The owner of the photo studio, who was considered an old acquaintance of Lin Wan, took her instructions to heart and assured her it would not be leaked.
Lin Wan bought some rice and flour and cooking oil at the grain oil store. Lin Wan discovered they sold soybean oil.
Han Yi had quite a few special supply tickets, which had expiration dates, and it would be a waste not to use them.
Many teammates in the team who couldn’t use them would also give them to those in need.
Lin Wan unceremoniously asked for a jug of soybean oil; although pork fat is fragrant, it’s never as healthy as soybean oil.
She also bought a few pork bones to make soup with once they got there.
Just after they got home before noon, it started to snow heavily.
Han Yi wouldn’t let her busy herself and went to warm up the oven and then went to the kitchen to cook lunch.
Meanwhile, Lin Wan leisurely made a phone call to Su Ling.
She retold last night’s stories told by Han Yi, "Great, great, did you capture it?"
"I captured it," Lin Wan felt guilty towards Ye Qing but did not agree with Ye Qing’s actions.
However, when it involved Han Yi and Mei Langchi, she didn’t object to capturing it.
Lin Wan told Su Ling about going to see Stephen the next day and asked her to let Yin Peibai know not to run over to the rental place to avoid a wasted trip.
"The school has another half-month of classes, but it’s snowing heavily today, and it’s expected that school will close. I’ll go once the snow stops."
"With the accumulation of snow, it’s slippery, be careful on the road."
"I will."
Today, due to the heavy snow, there were almost no customers in the shop by the afternoon. Liang Hongmei let the employees leave early, not opening in the evening. They sent them home early on.
Told them if they didn’t open either.
The remaining goods in the shop were brought home by Liang Hongmei. Pork, lamb, lamb ribs, and beef. Fish and shrimp, and she couldn’t forget the old yogurt her son-in-law instructed.
There was someone in the team who wanted more than a dozen bottles. Once the bottles were recycled, another dozen were sent out. Honestly, it was troublesome and didn’t make money, purely to gain favor with her son-in-law.
In the evening, Mom directly brought out two small stoves used in the past by the hot pot shop, one for each, and the four sat on the kang eating hot pot.
"Mom, I’ll take one of these stoves to the army, for when I don’t want to cook, I’ll just boil some vegetables."
"There are a few of them at home, you can take one, but don’t eat spicy food every day just for convenience."
"Yes, yes, I know."
Out of the four of them, besides Lin Yinghui, who was clueless, the other three knew that pregnant women liking spicy food might mean something.
Whether her daughter had a boy or a girl, she cherished them, always afraid to speak up for fear her son-in-law would be unhappy. In Han Yi’s view, regardless of whether Xiao Wan had a boy or a girl, they were his children and he would love them.
"Eat as much as you like, just drink plenty of water and eat more fruits."
"Still, my husband is the best," hearing Han Yi pamper her this way, Lin Wan felt an indescribable joy inside. Leaning over, had her mom and brother not been there, she would have pounced on Han Yi.
From the side, Liang Hongmei cast her daughter a glance and said, "Where did you learn that foreign tone? Such as ’husband, husband’?"
"I always thought the little sister and brother-in-law called each other by their full names all day long; I didn’t expect them to use such intimate terms in private," Lin Yinghui’s words made even the usually stern-faced Han Yi feel a bit bashful. Lin Wan, on the other hand, didn’t care and countered, "Isn’t my brother the same? In our presence, he’s all ’Qingqing, Qingqing’, who knows how intimately he calls her in private." "You silly girl, making fun of your brother now. Eat your meal," Lin Yinghui said, blushing awkwardly.
In Han Yi’s view, a family living harmoniously, laughing and playing around, was what true family looked like. This was the family he had longed for more than twenty years. He never imagined that his wife would give him such a family.
He was lucky; meeting Lin Wan was heaven’s greatest compensation.
When they returned to their room, Lin Wan took out all sorts of little comic books she had collected to read at the army base when bored.
The heavy snow didn’t stop until around 11 o’clock at night. This snowfall was much heavier than the last.
Early in the morning, neighbors were already clearing away the snow. On city streets, government road workers had started scattering industrial salt.
Han Yi got up early to clear a small path at home with his brother.
Mom helped her pack clothes and food. This trip, she carried a large load again.
Around 11 o’clock, her brother rode a tricycle to send them to a highway where the mess convoy would pass by.
Upon their arrival, two people were already waiting there, Sun Yu, and the army doctor Doctor Wang from last time.
"Hello Doctor Wang, thank you for last time," Lin Wan graciously greeted him first out of gratitude.
"No need to thank me, Han Yi and I fought on the battlefield together, it’s what I should do."
"Oh, even doctors have to go upfront to pay electricity bills and fight sdf./ wars?" Lin Wan asked a rather silly question.
This caused her brother to knock on her head.
Sun Yu sneered beside her, as if mocking her.
Lin Wan realized she embarrassed herself and really lived up to the saying, ’pregnancy makes you silly for three years.’
Yet, the two men didn’t think she was silly at all; Han Yi smiled, holding her hand, and explained, "Doctor Wang is a military doctor, sfd era style, battle, son. The wounded on the battlefield need timely treatment, and of course doctors must go."
Lin Wan quickly lowered her head shyly, murmuring softly to indicate she understood.
Within a few minutes, the mess convoy arrived.
Today, there were no families from the compound; the back was full of military, wer/ supplies, but there was space for the items they brought.
Her brother helped them move the things onto the truck. He left after telling them a few things; now that the snow hadn’t turned into ice, the ground wasn’t too slippery. By tomorrow, it might be another story.
This time the truck seemed to be carrying a lot of potatoes.
This batch would last the army sde./ team about two days.
"Sister-in-law brought so much, is she planning to spend the New Year at the army base?" On the road, Doctor Wang looked at the big piles of things the couple brought and joked.
"Yes, we’ll spend the New Year in the team this year."
Doctor Wang intended it as a joke but was surprised to find it was true. He smiled knowingly, picking up a small jar beside him and sniffing it, "Brought soybean paste too?"
"A whole jar, Doctor Wang, if you like it, I’ll ask Han Yi to send you some once we get back."
"Alright, I won’t be polite then." Though Doctor Wang’s family was local, neither he nor his wife were good cooks, usually eating at the hospital canteen, and on base, they naturally ate at the canteen.
Returning this time, they even discussed it, pondering on what to do when they eventually have children.
"Sister Sun, do you like this?" Lin Wan spoke to Sun Yu for the first time on the journey.
Sun Yu, covering her mouth with a frown, kept gesturing towards Doctor Wang.
Doctor Wang immediately understood and quickly hid the soybean paste jar, "Sorry, I didn’t realize Sister Sun had such strong pregnancy reactions."
The jar was ceramic, covered with two layers of sackcloth by Aunt Jin, with plastic wrap on top, tied with a string.
When it was delivered to her, the soybean sauce had a pungent smell, but Lin Wan didn’t find it bothersome.
