Chapter 4 Moving Forward

"Damn it!"

Looking at the corridor outside the elevator, Bai Ye cursed under his breath.

As the zombie fell, Bai Ye's danger was not yet over.

In the corridor outside the elevator, many zombies were lurking. The moment the gunshots rang out, they all looked in Bai Ye's direction and advanced with faltering steps, emitting whimpering hisses from their mouths.

Without hesitation, Bai Ye quickly raised his hand, aimed, and fired.

Bang, bang, bang...

As the gunshots rang out again, the two zombies at the forefront fell, their heads exploding like smashed watermelons.

Bai Ye's eyes lit up slightly. Although he had returned to ten years ago and his physical stats had become that of a weakling, his marksmanship had not changed much due to his retained memories.

After all, marksmanship was like riding a bicycle; once learned, it was learned. With memory alone, Bai Ye could instinctively react. While it was certainly a downgrade compared to his previous life, it was still at a decent level.

The only thing that bothered Bai Ye was that his body really needed strengthening. The recoil from firing made his wrist ache.

Thinking this, Bai Ye moved forward. At the same time, he flipped his wrist, ejected the empty magazine, and then inserted a new one into the gun.

When he obtained this Glock 17 from the gashapon machine, Bai Ye had also received ten magazines.

The magazine was reloaded, and a zombie lunged at Bai Ye.

Bai Ye curved his lips. It was perfect timing.

The next moment, Bai Ye shoved the pistol into the zombie's gaping maw.

Bang!

A bloody hole burst open at the back of the zombie's head, blood splattering onto the ground. The zombie then fell backward.

Bai Ye squatted down, tore off a strip of cloth from the zombie, wiped the blood from the gun, and continued forward. Compared to before, there was a hint of vigilance in Bai Ye's eyes.

The sudden zombie attack served as a reminder. Although he had entered the Umbrella Corporation's underground base in his previous life, and the restricted zone missions had not changed, everything within the base was not static. In his previous life, Bai Ye had not encountered zombie attacks when he exited the elevator, but this time, zombies were lurking at the entrance.

This was normal; zombies were not static objects, they moved.

"However, while living things move, dead things remain unchanged..." Bai Ye looked to the side and said, "Dead things are ultimately unchanging."

Passing through the corridor with metal plating, they entered an office area that looked no different from a regular office building.

But Bai Ye knew the normal scenery would end here.

After passing through the office area, there was another corridor with metal plating, but on the sides, there were rooms with one-way glass.

Inside those rooms were metal laboratory benches, stained with blood, and littered with various unsettling tools.

Pliers, scissors, saws...

Any intelligent person would know what kind of experiments the Umbrella Corporation had conducted here.

"Then, after the experimental area, it should be the mess hall. From the A6 corridor, turn towards Area B3..." Bai Ye pushed open a large metal door and then smiled, "Found it."

This was a rather large room, filled with rows and rows of silver metal shelves, stacked with silver bags. The top had a small opening that could be twisted open.

This was the base's food storage warehouse, and those bags contained emergency nutrient paste.

This was Bai Ye's objective. To survive in the world battlefield, food was a necessity. Therefore, while completing the restricted zone mission, Bai Ye also planned to collect supplies.

Bai Ye casually swept his hand across the shelf, and the emergency nutrient paste began to disappear, while Bai Ye's inventory increased: Emergency Nutrient Paste: x50.

Bai Ye nodded in satisfaction and then prepared to leave the food storage warehouse.

But at this moment...

Clang!

A crisp metallic impact suddenly echoed.

Bai Ye became extremely vigilant, raising his gun with both hands, and then looked up at the ceiling.

The metallic impact sound came from above.

Bai Ye quickly located the ventilation ducts and slowly moved his steps.

A moment later, as the ventilation duct made noise again, Bai Ye quickly pinpointed its location and raised his gun to fire.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang...

As Bai Ye pulled the trigger, the gunshots rang out continuously, and soon, the ventilation duct was riddled with bullet holes.

From those bullet holes, bright red blood slowly dripped down.

Drip, drip!

The blood fell to the ground with a sound.

Killed it?

No, not yet!

Suddenly, a loud noise erupted, and the ventilation duct exploded, revealing a huge opening. A monster then lunged out.

The monster was humanoid but moved on all fours like a beast. It had no skin, only pale red flesh, covered in a viscous fluid. A massive maw occupied half its face, and its dangling tongue was at least three to four meters long.

Bai Ye couldn't help but grimace. This was no ordinary zombie, but a Licker from Wang Wei's poem!

Bai Ye decisively retreated, but it was a step too late. The Licker was incredibly fast. It twisted its head, and its scarlet tongue lashed out, wrapping around Bai Ye.

The next moment, Bai Ye's ankle was ensnared by the Licker's tongue, and he was instantly sent flying.

Bang!

His back slammed hard against the wall behind him. The intense pain contorted Bai Ye's face.

The Licker crawled on the ground, rapidly closing in on Bai Ye.

Bai Ye yanked hard on the Licker's tongue, finding he couldn't make it release its grip. He immediately raised his gun and pressed it against the Licker's tongue.

Bang, bang, bang!

Continuous firing severed a section of the Licker's tongue. Bai Ye used this to break free from its restraint. The intense pain caused the Licker to thrash on the ground, emitting agonizing screeches.

After a moment, the Licker flipped over. Its aura became even more ferocious due to anger. With a powerful push of its legs, it lunged at Bai Ye again.

Bai Ye quickly scrambled to the side, using both hands and feet.

Clang!

The moment Bai Ye leaped away, the Licker crashed into the wall.

The metal plate embedded in the wall let out a loud groan and was forcefully dented.

The Licker slowly backed away, shook its slightly dazed head, then turned to face Bai Ye again. Its severed scarlet tongue dragged across the ground, leaving a trail of viscous fluid.
