Chapter 13 Moving Forward

Bai Ye, seeing such an opportunity, wouldn't let it pass. He immediately dodged out, leaped up, and stepped on the axe handle, then used the momentum to jump onto the axe-wielder. He pulled out his pistol and shoved it directly into the axe-wielder's mouth.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang…

The axe-wielder's head was much tougher than that of an ordinary zombie. Bai Ye continuously pulled the trigger until all the bullets were expended. Only then did the axe-wielder's head explode, and its massive body toppled backward, crashing to the ground with a thud.

Bai Ye wiped the gun with his clothes, then removed the magazine, loaded a new one, and approached the man who was barely clinging to life. He looked down at the man's wound; his intestines had spilled out.

Bai Ye said, "Anything else you want to say?"

"Send me off…" the man gasped. "Give me a quick end. Thanks."

Bai Ye nodded, aimed his pistol at the man's head, and said, "Farewell, and don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Bang!

Bai Ye pulled the trigger, and a bloody hole appeared on the man's head. His body slowly went limp.

Bai Ye felt a touch of melancholy, not because the man had died, but because when the axe-wielder appeared, the man had actually warned him to be careful.

Such a thing…

It was only possible when the World Battlefield had just opened. It made Bai Ye a little nostalgic, as in ten years, everyone's mind was occupied by only one thing: killing others, snatching God Stone fragments, and then surviving to leave this damned place.

He put the gun back into its holster, took out a bag of nutrient solution, opened it, and put it in his mouth. Bai Ye continued his advance towards Area C.

The appearance of the axe-wielder wasn't entirely a bad thing. For Umbrella Corporation, the axe-wielder was a failed product, but it had completed its mutation and was a highly valuable specimen.

In other words, before this base was destroyed by zombies due to the virus leak, the axe-wielder was likely imprisoned alongside the Tyrant, or at least in the same area.

"So…" Bai Ye murmured, "If the axe-wielder appeared in Area C, then wouldn't the area where the axe-wielder and Tyrant are held be near Area C?"

Bai Ye pondered this as he recalled the general layout of the underground base.

The outer areas were near the entrances and exits, followed by Area A. Area A was actually a ruse; it wasn't used for virus research but operated as a legitimate bio-company, a contingency plan to deceive if the base was discovered.

Area B was for zombie sample experiments, essentially a place to inject viruses to create zombies and observe their reactions. Area C was for virus sample experiments. Based on the original virus, Umbrella Corporation had developed numerous viruses, most of which were failures or semi-finished products. The T-Virus was the most complete and closest to a perfect base virus.

Bai Ye mused as he looked at the directional signs, murmuring, "From here is the living quarters, the second passage is the entertainment area, and turning right is the dining area…"

Bai Ye tried his best to recall the structure of Umbrella Corporation's underground base, or more accurately, the areas he hadn't visited in his previous life. Those areas might contain the Tyrant's confinement facilities. Although the underground base was destroyed, and the Tyrant could no longer be contained, the probability of finding the Tyrant would be higher in the vicinity of its confinement location.

Suddenly, Bai Ye had an epiphany.

"Entertainment area?"

Since the underground base staff lived within the base and couldn't leave freely, an entertainment area was necessary.

After all, even a draft horse needs to catch its breath. Working underground long-term without a place to release stress could lead to emotional breakdowns among researchers.

In his previous life, Bai Ye had never visited the entertainment area. By logic, that place would only have entertainment facilities and have nothing to do with virus research. What could be found there?

But…

"As the saying goes, the most unlikely place is often the most likely?"

Bai Ye muttered, thinking that since he didn't know where else to look for the Tyrant, he might as well try his luck.

Bai Ye acted immediately, changing direction and heading towards the entertainment area.

Upon entering the entertainment area, Bai Ye found it to be quite remarkable.

Billiards, poker, arcade games, a gym, a private cinema, and indoor golf – it had everything. What was most incredible was the provision of ecological environment projections. Despite being underground, there were windows that looked out at skyscrapers.

Bai Ye remotely controlled the projection, and the surroundings changed to a seaside, with beaches, palm trees, and bikini-clad beauties. Even the sound of the sea breeze was simulated.

Bai Ye commented that the designer of this ecological environment projection clearly understood what men desired.

Bai Ye continued walking forward, thinking to himself, and then…

Bai Ye suddenly stopped, his gaze falling to the side.

There was a crack on the seascape!

The fake was just fake. Everything around was a projection, and when the screen used for projection was damaged, the projected image would naturally show a crack.

The reason Bai Ye felt something was wrong was…

There was wind!

Behind the screen should be a wall. Why was there wind?

Wind implied there was still space behind the screen, and air circulation would create wind.

Bai Ye walked towards the crack and then forcefully pulled the damaged screen to the side. He peered inside, and his eyes lit up. Indeed, there was space behind the screen.

Bai Ye stepped over the screen and slowly walked forward.

This space was somewhat dim. At the end, there was an old iron ladder. Stepping on it made a creaking sound. After descending the iron ladder, Bai Ye saw many neatly arranged glass jars.

Beneath the glass jars were iron bases. Inside the glass jars was a viscous green liquid. Some glass jars had already shattered, and the liquid had spilled all over the floor, sticky and with a faint腥臭味 (fishy stench).

In addition to that, there were many corpses!

Licker corpses!

There were about ten Licker corpses. Bai Ye approached and examined them. He could see many wounds from sharp objects on the Lickers' bodies. Of course, the fatal blow was a hole through their heads.

It was clear that these Lickers had been killed by someone!

"So, is this where Umbrella Corporation's base manufactured Lickers?" Bai Ye frowned. "It seems someone has beaten me to it."

Rumble!

As Bai Ye was thinking, a loud noise suddenly came from the ground beneath his feet, and the ground began to tremble continuously.
