Did Chen Zhisheng feel happy?
Of course not.
When he said those words, he was undoubtedly stabbing himself in the heart. After all, the person who died was his own brother. Yet, he just enjoyed provoking Fu Jingshu, being stubbornly proud.
"I'm happy. As long as he's not happy, I'm happy."
"You won't be happy. As long as you still care about your brother, you won't be able to talk about him with indifference."
Shen Qingqing understood this perfectly. She too had lost loved ones and knew that using a relative's death as a weapon ultimately only hurt oneself.
Chen Zhisheng, with a grim expression, picked up his chopsticks and threw them onto the table.
The two chopsticks rolled far across the table and then fell to the ground with a clatter.
Just like his mood at the moment, scattered and dejected. This meal was clearly not going to be eaten. He glared fiercely at the glib woman, turned around, and stomped away.
Shen Qingqing turned to look at Fu Jingshu, intending to comfort him, but he seemed very calm. He gently kissed her forehead.
"I'll go make the bed for you."
With that, he got up and walked towards the guest room.
Shen Qingqing sighed softly.
The bed was already made; there was no need to make it.
In just a short while, she was the only one left at the dining table. Looking at the simple food, she had no appetite. She decided not to eat either.
She decided to go out and buy some snacks and milk to eat if she got hungry at night.
Since the test results would be out soon, they would likely depart for home immediately, so there was no need to buy groceries. When she returned with snacks, an hour had already passed.
Fu Jingshu was sitting in the living room, frequently looking towards the door.
He didn't say anything, just silently came over to take the things from her hands. Shen Qingqing, on the other hand, took the initiative to explain, "I was worried about being hungry at night, so I bought some snacks. They're easy to store. If we can't finish them, we can put them in the fridge. When he and Nuonuo return, they won't have to worry about not having food."
As she spoke, she entered the room. As soon as the door closed, she was embraced from behind.
"Thank you."
He said in a low voice.
Shen Qingqing asked softly, "Why the sudden thank you?"
Fu Jingshu buried his face in her neck, kissing the fresh, elegant fragrance of her body. "I know, you're doing all this for me."
Although Nuonuo had done something wrong before, she hadn't blamed Nuonuo and had even made plans for her and Chen Zhisheng.
Shen Qingqing grasped the large hand around her waist. "I did it for you, but more importantly, I want to get rid of Nuonuo so she doesn't keep pestering you, calling you 'Daddy'. Xixi and Chenchen will be unhappy."
Fu Jingshu chuckled, tightening his grip as if wanting to embed her into his bones. But at a certain moment, he worried about hurting her.
So he maintained a strength that wouldn't hurt her but was also impossible to break free from.
"I love you."
Shen Qingqing's ears grew warm, like a feather gently brushing across her heart, leaving a faint tickle and a gentle current of emotion flowing like a stream.
"I know. You need to behave yourself, so you don't waste my efforts."
"Yes, Wife."
Shen Qingqing was right; she did get hungry in the middle of the night and ate some snacks. She felt a bit thirsty and went to the kitchen to heat up some milk.
The weather was a bit chilly now, so she no longer drank cold milk.
But as she walked into the living room, she saw a person sitting on the sofa. It was Chen Zhisheng.
He heard the sound but didn't turn around, having recognized who it was by their footsteps. "Why are you with him?"
Shen Qingqing paused slightly, not answering.
"You have no idea, he's not a good person," Chen Zhisheng said with indignation. "Ungrateful, and he caused lives!"
Shen Qingqing pursed her lips and walked towards him, stopping a short distance behind him.
He continued his accusations, "If it weren't for him, my brother wouldn't have died. My parents wouldn't have been so devastated by the news of my brother's death and wouldn't have gotten into a car accident. I wouldn't be left all alone!"
"What you're saying is wrong," she refuted softly.
"How is it wrong?" Chen Zhisheng stood up abruptly. The moonlight outside streamed onto his face, revealing glimmers of tears, and his voice choked with emotion. "You think he's good because you've been deceived. You have no idea how ruthless he is! He didn't even spare my brother's girlfriend; he had to have her for himself too!"
Shen Qingqing frowned slightly, not wanting to argue with someone lost in sorrow. "In any case, tomorrow, once the paternity test results are out, you'll know what's going on."
As long as it was confirmed that the child was indeed Chen Zhisheng's, everything Lu Wanying had said would be proven a lie.
Chen Zhisheng would eventually know who it was that truly caused his brother to sacrifice his life. httpδ:/m.kuAisugg.nět
As she turned to leave, she stopped again, turning her head slightly. "Did Lu Wanying often visit your house back then? Were you close?"
"Yes," Chen Zhisheng, thinking she had taken his words to heart, quickly replied, "She was my brother's girlfriend. Later, when my brother died, Fu Jingshu took her..."
"Alright, I know. You should get some rest."
Shen Qingqing smiled, a smile that held an unreadable meaning.
Chen Zhisheng had been terribly deceived. If he were to know the truth later, how much of a blow would it be? He might even be driven to swallow Lu Wanying alive.
After all, in a way, it was because of her that the Chen family was destroyed.
Shen Qingqing didn't drink her milk. She only poured a cup of hot water. After finishing it, she returned to her room and saw Fu Jingshu leaning against the headboard, his gaze fixed on her.
"Why aren't you asleep yet?"
"Waiting for you."
He lifted the covers and waited for her to get into bed, then held her in his arms. Only then did he feel his quiet, empty embrace filled with warmth.
He sighed with contentment.
"Sleep."
He didn't ask why she was gone for so long. He simply closed his eyes and fell asleep shortly after.
The next morning, Shen Qingqing really didn't want to eat food at Chen Zhisheng's place, so she suggested they eat out. Chen Zhisheng was unwilling.
She convinced him by saying the test results would be sent to her, and he would be brought along.
After all, he wanted to see the results immediately.
After breakfast, the paternity test results were delivered by a special courier. Chen Zhisheng looked at the white paper, almost afraid to look. Finally, Shen Qingqing placed the results on the table.
He took a deep breath before leaning in to look.
The test results showed—the two were indeed father and daughter.
Chen Zhisheng's head buzzed for a moment, his blood surging, and he almost fainted. After finally recovering, he reached for the results with trembling hands. This thin sheet of paper held all his hope for continuing to live.
"It's really my child, it really is..."
The surprise came too quickly; he was almost in disbelief. "You're not tricking me, are you?"
With Fu Jingshu's capabilities, forging it wouldn't be difficult.
Shen Qingqing was not surprised by his remark at all. "When we get back to the country, you can get another paternity test done yourself, and you'll know."
Right, he could do it again!
Chen Zhisheng already believed it by seven or eight parts. He quickly folded the paper carefully and put it away. Then he heard Shen Qingqing say, as if casually.
"However, I must remind you, your daughter is sick and in the hospital. It's not a serious illness, but she still needs care. See if you want to..."
"We're going back to the country right now!"
Chen Zhisheng was alarmed upon hearing this and immediately dashed back to his room at a hundred-meter-dash speed to pack his luggage.
