Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Blood Hawk
The bloodstains on Matty are quite artistic; it is not simply a blood mark, blood mist, or spiky stains, but rather a large red bird, or you could say a spreading eagle.
Under Wu Chang’s scrutiny, the large blood-colored eagle flapped its wings, flying off from Matty and swooping toward his face.
Amid the whooshing sound of flapping wings, he glimpsed the vision within the grudge.
The owner of the grudge was the previous postal worker, wearing a superhero-style yellow tight suit under the red postal uniform.
He sat behind the desk, meticulously sorting through the materials on it, marking out useful information, and if necessary, turning them into clippings.
The leftover materials for the clippings were those newspapers Wu Chang had previously discovered inside the post office.
Knock, knock, knock.
The post office’s door was knocked on.
The knocker was a middle-aged man, his face showing anger, barging in without waiting for the Superhero to say come in.
"Hey, new guy, you haven’t delivered the mail in three days. Will I finally get my mail before it gets dark today?"
"And you are?"
"Jon the Blacksmith."
The Superhero, busy gathering information, had no time to care about the townspeople.
He casually grabbed a stack of letters, tossing them in front of Johnny.
"I’m busy, find it yourself."
Jon did not move, glaring coldly, "Delivering mail to each mailbox at their doorsteps is your job."
The Superhero didn’t have a good temper, giving Jon a sidelong glance, snorting coldly, "Where did this big baby come from, can’t you use your own hands?"
Jon, enraged by this remark, slammed the table and shouted:
"Damn parasite, listen carefully, in this town, no one can treat work and others like this! Believe me, you will regret it!"
The Superhero paused his newspaper sorting, "You’re so angry, why not call the police?"
Jon: "You!"
The Superhero stood up, saying ironically, "Charge me with not getting your mail into the mailbox on time, distressing a disabled person, let’s see if the Kingdom’s law can convict me."
"Oh, by the way, you could also tell the police I bullied you."
After finishing, the Superhero punched Jon down, dragged him out of the post office by his legs.
He stood at the post office door, grabbing Jon’s legs, beginning to spin in place, playing at being a windmill.
No idea how many spins, he slowly stopped, tossing Jon to the ground, who barely had time to say anything before running to the roadside bushes to vomit furiously.
With a cold snort, the Superhero returned to his desk to continue making clippings.
Until the sun set, he was about to light the oil lamp, when he looked up and saw Matty’s large face stuck to the window.
"Another clueless one," he opened the door to repeat his trick, intending to teach the townspeople a lesson.
Unexpectedly, the moment Matty saw him, he seemed possessed, his already tall and sturdy body swelling further.
The Superhero, in contrast, his body became limp, his movements slowed.
Matty’s hands now held a harpoon, and at a speed the Superhero couldn’t dodge, he stabbed it into his stomach.
"No, you have no martial honor..." the Superhero’s eyes dimmed, the screen subsequently fading to black.
When the camera lit up again, he found himself on an open-air pier.
The dock was desolate, with no boats moored, no goods piled up, only a bronze statue standing in front of him.
The Superhero was tied to a wooden frame, a rag stuffed in his mouth, unable to speak or move.
The enormous Matty emerged from the shadows, wielding a fish-killing knife, saying brutally, "Lowly creature, you betrayed the islanders’ trust!"
"You wanted legal punishment, then let me show you what island law means!"
Matty picked up the fish-killing knife, stabbing the Superhero’s back, slicing open two cuts along either side of the spine, inserting his hands into the wounds, forcefully breaking the Superhero’s ribs, then grasping the Superhero’s lung and tearing it out through the wounds.
The lung, exposed to air after being pulled from the back, quickly contracted, resembling a pair of retracted wings.
The Superhero, convulsing in agony, looked like an eagle gathering power, ready to soar into the sky.
In the final vision of the illusion, as the Superhero had one last breath remaining, he was brought back to the post office, hung in the center.
The pair of lungs were pierced by iron hooks, pulled straight to both sides, and a hollow iron rod inserted, inflating it with air until it turned into two plump wings.
Finally, a red blood eagle soared within the post office.
"Lazy outsider, this is what you deserve!"
With Matty’s final curse, the vision within the grudge dissipated.
Without surprise, the Superhero dying under such a cruel torment birthed a blood-colored will from the grudge.
[I took three days off work, and this is what I get? I’m going to lock Matty up, make sure he can never work, and see if he goes crazy!]
Well...
How to put it, after seeing the Superhero’s blood-colored will, Wu Chang didn’t know where to start complaining.
He thought the Superhero’s blood-colored will would be "Amynos, Matty, act cool and I’ll make you fly!"
After all, in Matty’s hands, the Superhero turned into a blood eagle and took flight, so in return, it’d only be fair to let Matty experience flying once too.
Yet he ended up being the one made to fly, and his method of revenge was actually to stop Matty from working.
Damn, you’re a real genius.
But it makes sense, recalling the gambler obsessed with gambling in the Moonlight Sanatorium, and the stubborn kid in Saisei An that insisted on checking out Ghost Cry Forest despite the danger, after staying in the Abyssal Game for so long, some people’s thinking patterns do become abnormal.
The knocking on the desk brought Wu Chang out of his thoughts, he lifted his head, meeting Matty’s approaching big face.
"Mr. Sean, did you hear what I just said?"
Wu Chang shook his head, saying, "Sorry, I’m too sleepy, I spaced out for a moment, what did you say?"
Matty repeated, "I said there will be a mail for me in a couple of days, please be sure to deliver it promptly, don’t delay."
"No problem, I’ll deliver it on the same day. You don’t know, I’m so passionate about my work, work is like my life!" Wu Chang said excitedly.
While speaking, he glanced at the ceiling, considering that the one not working now is already hung up there.
Matty paused for a moment, the threat on his face faded, replaced by a simple smile, "That’s great, the town welcomes hard-working young men like you."
Seeing that Matty was leaving, Wu Chang hurriedly stopped him, asking:
"Mr. Matty, there’s something I’d like to confirm with you. Before coming to Briff, I was a mailman in a big city, as you know, those noblemen always like to mail weird stuff, not wanting to be discovered, claiming privacy rights."
"It was because I messed up a delivery that I got assigned here."
"If you have any special mail you don’t want others to see, you can notify me in advance, tell me a delivery method that won’t be found out, I can arrange a secret delivery for you."
Matty’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, "Mr. Sean, sorry for being rude earlier, as a mailman, you are incredibly professional. My grocery store closes at four every afternoon, you can enter through the back door then, no one will notice."
"If possible, please deliver my package that way in a couple of days."
"No problem! Mr. Matty, I’ll make sure to find you!" Wu Chang promised, patting his chest.
After seeing Matty off, he tidied up the post office while collecting his thoughts.
He carefully relived the Superhero’s grudge, trying to extract more information from it.
No sooner had he recalled for long when the post office door was knocked on again.
Opening the door, he found a red-haired female officer standing there, wearing a full police uniform, with the badge representing the sheriff on her chest, holding a black oil lamp, seemingly just finishing a task.
The badge on the female officer’s chest read Morena.
"Good evening, Ms. Morena, is there something I can help with?"
"Is there any mail for me here?" Morena asked.
"Technically, tomorrow is my first day on the job, so I’m also not sure if there is any."
Wu Chang glanced at the clock, showing two-thirty in the morning.
I mean, what kind of life schedule does your town have, picking up mail in the middle of the night?
Morena showed a regretful expression, after a brief silence, she said, "I’m here to inform you that after sunrise, come to the police station."
"I just arrived on the island tonight, I shouldn’t have had the chance to do anything illegal yet." Wu Chang joked.
"It’s not an investigation into you, as a postal system employee, you need to take possession of your predecessor’s belongings."
