Xu Qian pursed her lips and smiled, grabbed a lock of his silver hair, and gave him a passionate kiss.
They were both breathless, Mei Yue Bai’s feet rooted to the spot.
She didn't want to work.
“Go on.”
Mei Yue Bai suppressed the restless stirrings in his heart with all his might, his voice hoarse, “I’ll be back later.”
“Okay.”
After Mei Yue Bai left, Xu Qian received a call from Tang Zhi Shen. They had exchanged text messages during their free time these past few days, but rarely called.
“A Qian, how are things on your end?”
“Mm, pretty good.”
Except for the soreness in her waist and back.
Tang Zhi Shen breathed a sigh of relief, “When are you planning to head to Hope Base?”
He didn’t want Xu Qian to stay among her old flames for too long.
“I plan to stay at Bright Base for a while.”
There was a pause on the other end, “Why?”
“My friends are all here, and I’m happy being with them.”
This was the truth; her “friends” included many people.
Tang Zhi Shen frowned, wisely not asking further.
The most crucial thing when separated by distance was to avoid arguments.
“As long as you’re happy, Zhi Yuan and I will be waiting for you at the base.”
Xu Qian narrowed her eyes slightly, replying softly.
Smart people have their ways of communicating.
Tang Zhi Shen was subtly reminding her that two men were waiting for her at the Tang Base, and she shouldn't misbehave.
After the call ended, Xu Qian went out.
Everyone in the Sun Warrior team was busy at Bright Base, each with their own tasks. Feeling bored, she decided to wander around the market.
Last night at dinner, they had mentioned that the market this weekend at Bright Base was the largest and most populous of all the bases.
As long as you could name what you wanted, they had it.
Given her special status, a driver was assigned to take her to her destination.
The driver’s eyes lit up when he heard the word “market,” “Miss Xu, what would you like to buy?”
Xu Qian raised an eyebrow, “Just browse. I’ll buy whatever I see and like.”
The driver warned, “Miss Xu, the market is very big. It might take a whole day to finish browsing.”
Xu Qian narrowed her eyes. How big did a market have to be to take a whole day?
“It’s fine. Just drop me off at the main entrance and wait. I’ll contact you when I’m leaving.”
The driver ceased his persuasion and agreed.
Stepping into the market, Xu Qian finally understood how big a market that took a whole day to browse could be, and how many people it held.
People bustled through stalls of all sizes, with a wide variety of goods: food, clothing, handicrafts, and more.
She spent nearly two hours just browsing the clothing section, and her haul was plentiful. She simply bought whatever caught her eye.
There were also bags, shoes, and jewelry. Chunky gold chains and bracelets were treated like scrap metal here.
Let alone diamonds, which held little value. They sparkled with their original brilliance in simple paper boxes.
Xu Qian’s gaze lingered on the gold ornaments, and she decided to buy some.
Gold was very valuable before the apocalypse. She was a materialistic person; what she could hold in her hands was the most real.
Infinite money was useless, and she felt profoundly insecure.
After clearing out the clothing section, Xu Qian moved on to the food area. The variety of food wasn't extensive, mostly mutant beast meat prepared in various ways. The entire area was crowded with people, moving in fits and starts.
Just as Xu Qian was about to leave, a familiar figure flickered in her peripheral vision.
It looked like an old man.
The bases had merged now, so it was normal for their base to have merged in.
Xu Qian walked towards that direction. The stall was crowded; it was selling barbecue. She had just seen the old man in this area.
She searched around but couldn’t find him, a hint of anxiety in her expression.
She had definitely seen him just now.
“Girl.”
Xu Qian turned abruptly. The old man wore an apron, his hair white but his spirit energetic.
