The five-star missions were much more numerous than before, with over a dozen, most of which involved eliminating powerful mutants and mutated beasts across various locations in G Province.
Xu Qian glanced at the screen and quickly selected one.
She pointed to three consecutive markers on the large display. "Let's take these three nearby ones, how about it?"
Lu Yang froze, his voice trembling as he asked, "Three five-star missions?"
Was she kidding?
Xu Qian patted his shoulder, encouraging him, "Believe in yourself."
When they went to accept the missions, others were astonished. However, upon seeing her identification card, their surprise lessened.
It was a special identification card, belonging to someone of authority.
Hope Base had several individuals like this, all of whom were the personal guards of the powerful figures.
After accepting the missions, Xu Qian coaxed Lu Yang into driving.
Since the apocalypse, she had rarely driven herself and felt somewhat unaccustomed to it.
Lu Yang shook his head. "I can't drive. I always take Hope Base's shuttle for missions."
Xu Qian blinked, then recalled that Hope Base did indeed have shuttle services.
Since not everyone owned a car, and fuel was expensive even for those who did, Hope Base provided a shuttle service.
For a corresponding amount of points, people could be transported directly to their mission locations, with pick-up scheduled for the evening.
However, this also had its drawbacks. After completing a mission, one could only wait or go around killing zombies.
Everyone had grown accustomed to it; in Hope Base, without points, survival was impossible.
The apocalypse was no paradise.
It took an hour by car to reach H City from Hope Base.
The first mission was to go to a cement factory to kill mutants. There was little information, only that the number was less than thirty and they were difficult to deal with, accompanied by a set of keys.
Mission Requirement: Even if you cannot defeat them, please re-lock the door.
Xu Qian parked nearby, and the two walked towards the factory gate.
The door was locked, and faint sounds of footsteps and roars could be heard from within.
It seemed they were trapped inside.
The two exchanged a look, understanding each other's thoughts.
As the thought crossed Xu Qian's mind, a Basher knife appeared in her hand.
"Lu Yang, as soon as I open the door, spray them with water, and I'll go in to kill them."
"Okay."
Xu Qian carefully opened the door, and a massive jet of water instantly surged in, disorienting the unknown entities inside.
The young girl flashed forward, slashing at the bewildered mutants.
With a clang, a stone arm fell off.
Only then did Xu Qian get a clear look at their true appearance; a large number of them stood sparsely.
Their entire bodies were covered in white cement, making it impossible to see their eyes or noses; they were just white blobs.
What kind of strange creatures were these?
She didn't overthink it; killing was the only answer.
The young girl moved swiftly through the group of mutants, lopping off heads and limbs in quick succession.
Suddenly, Lu Yang noticed that the fallen bodies were reassembling themselves, slowly forming brand-new mutants.
"Sister Qian, look."
Xu Qian split a cement man in half with a backhand swing and turned to ask, "What is it?"
"These mutants are re-synthesizing themselves."
Xu Qian was taken aback. She bent down and picked up a severed arm. The cement within the limb was moving; it was clearly alive.
The body was slowly rejoining.
She knew then that five-star missions wouldn't be so simple!
"Sister Qian! Help!!"
Lu Yang's face was pale. The moving cement on the ground was creeping up his legs, seemingly about to engulf him.
He desperately sprayed water from his palms, but the cement showed no reaction.
