Sheng Wei Qu’s eyes completely ignored Xu Qian, fixated on Guan Wei Yun as if she might pounce on him if Xu Qian weren't there.
Guan Wei Yun frowned, his hand closing around Xu Qian's slender waist.
The distance between them closed.
"Lead the way."
"Certainly."
Sheng Wei Qu turned, her expression darkening. Her father had arranged for her to host them, hoping she would seduce Guan Wei Yun. She hadn't expected him to bring another woman to the meeting, and one so handsome, too…
A flicker of determination crossed her eyes. She vowed to use every means necessary to get into his bed. This would undoubtedly elevate her and her father's status at Tang's Base.
Hearing her thoughts, Xu Qian lowered her gaze, shaking her head inwardly. Were there so many unspoken rules at Tang's Base?
Sheng Wei Qu led them to a luxury car, a veritable multi-million dollar vehicle from her past life. Its black paint gleamed, radiating an aura of high class. Xu Qian, accustomed to seeing many luxury cars, had never encountered one in Hope Base. Guan Wei Yun didn't have one, and neither did anyone else in the base. Most people drove comfortable jeeps, and she herself was among the few with an RV.
As they drove, streetlights blazed, transforming Tang's Base into a city that never slept. Countless sports cars and luxury vehicles, worth millions, roared past. Xu Qian was experiencing the prosperity of a base for the first time. S City retained its pre-apocalypse character, a hub of wealth. Towering skyscrapers, adorned with flashing lights, harmonized with old-fashioned Western-style buildings, a fusion of international cultures.
Xu Qian knew Tang's Base was wealthy, but she hadn't imagined it was *this* wealthy! Sheng Wei Qu took them on a tour. Tang's Base encompassed the entirety of S City, which meant… S City and Tang's Base were one and the same. Given S City's small area, this made sense. Nevertheless, Xu Qian was genuinely impressed. Transforming a city overrun by zombies into its current state was no small feat. Human and material resources were paramount.
Guan Wei Yun's gaze was heavy as he looked out the window, remaining silent for a long time. Xu Qian understood what he was thinking. Hope Base had a much larger population than Tang's Base, yet it wasn't as expansive. He was naturally feeling a bit dejected.
The luxury car stopped in front of a small villa. Sheng Wei Qu personally opened the door and ushered them in with a smile. "Director Guan, you will be staying here for the next few days. I will pick you up tomorrow morning at 9:30 for the meeting." She added, "Oh, and across the street lives Director Mei of Bright Base…"
Guan Wei Yun's expression remained unchanged. He interrupted, "You may leave."
Sheng Wei Qu’s expression stiffened. She acknowledged with a "Yes" and obediently exited.
Guan Wei Yun leaned back on the sofa, his expression weary. "Madam, is Tang's Base much better than our Hope Base?"
Xu Qian smiled and sat beside him. "We are different from them."
Guan Wei Yun didn't open his eyes. "How are we different? Aren't they all just bases?"
Xu Qian, like a fond pet, stroked his black hair. "Of course, we're different. S City was an international metropolis even before the apocalypse. Its inherent strengths are unlike G City's. Besides, do you remember who the director of Tang's Base is, Tang Zhi Shen?"
He rubbed his temples and said gravely, "Tang Corporation is one of the wealthiest in the entire country." He had come to terms with it; the two bases had different starting points, making comparison difficult. "Madam, thank you for enlightening me."
