Fifty-two bases, nearly thirty of which were destroyed by her, and three more in G City. The remaining nineteen bases were all concentrated in the southwest and northwest.
Looking at the increasingly full map dotted with pins, she felt a great sense of accomplishment.
“We get out and walk. Driving is too conspicuous.”
“Yes.”
The three humans and one zombie donned their gear and exited the vehicle. Their week of rest was far from idle; Xu Qian had taught them how to use firearms and hand-to-hand combat in her spare time.
The results weren’t instantaneous, but there was certainly an effect.
The system hadn't explicitly stated the exact location, having provided a somewhat casual pinpoint.
Sister Ya Yun had told Yi Chun that there wasn't much to see in the scenic area, just a mountain and a lake.
The two men from Q Province had mentioned that of the X Group's bases, only one was an underwater facility; the others were not.
This implied that the base in R Province was located on the mountain.
After a brief discussion, the four headed towards the mountain. Though it was called a mountain, it was mostly covered in large expanses of grassland, with occasional clusters of withered trees that were not dense.
It was evident that it had once been beautiful, but sadly...
She could no longer see such scenic beauty.
Without a specific destination, they could only wander aimlessly.
The mountain was vast. As they passed a classic scenic spot, they began to offer introductions.
“When I came here before, this area was full of sheep.”
Xie Ya Yun excitedly ran up the slope. Just as she was about to continue her description, her face suddenly turned pale, and she quickly retreated towards them.
Xu Qian frowned and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Xie Ya Yun shook her head, unable to describe what she had seen.
The more she remained silent, the more curious Xu Qian became. She climbed up the slope.
A cold wind swept past, and Xu Qian's skin crawled.
The sheep Sister Ya Yun had mentioned were still there, but they had become mutated sheep...
Their bodies were a pure white, their eyes blood red. Thousands upon thousands of mutated sheep were enclosed in a pen, appearing like ordinary sheep, their heads bowed as they grazed.
Of course, they weren't eating grass but zombie organs.
The zombie cores had not been removed, so the zombies on the ground would occasionally let out a roar. Some, even with missing limbs, would scurry around the pen.
Soon, they would be intercepted by a sheep and continue to be devoured.
They only ate the internal organs, leaving behind a layer of flesh and their heads before stopping.
The dismembered zombies moved through the flock of sheep, an exceptionally terrifying sight.
“Get down.”
With swift reflexes, they all dropped to the ground.
Several figures in black dragged a string of zombies into the pen. The sheep, upon seeing fresh food, became exceptionally excited.
They used their forelegs to kick down the zombies and then bit into the flesh on their chests with a crunching sound.
Xu Qian said softly, “Base R must be nearby.”
The others nodded. Xu Lu showed no particular tension.
Ever since her head had indicated the location of the base last time, there had been no further prompts.
The two women were doing this for the first time and were understandably nervous.
“Xiao Qian, I’ll listen to you. I’ll do whatever you tell me to do.”
Yi Chun chimed in, “Strategist, me too.”
Xu Qian reopened the holographic map. Besides the few figures in black, there were no other clusters of living people nearby.
She spoke softly, “We’ll split into two teams. You two go to the right, I’ll go to the left. Find a hidden spot and follow them back.”
“Yes.”
Just as the two women were about to turn, Xu Qian called out to them.
She handed them two communicators and said quietly, “We’ll use these to communicate.”
“Okay.”
Xu Lu naturally followed Xu Qian. Although Xu Lu was a bit slow-witted, after being taught a few times, he became very obedient and stuck close to her.
Xie Ya Yun and the other woman hid in the woods on the right, while Xu Qian and Xu Lu concealed themselves in a pile of withered straw nearby.
