Chapter 405: Chapter 381: If I Give You Another Chance, Would You Leave Her for Me?
"Leng Yan, stop right there!"
She was wearing flat shoes and had long forgotten she was pregnant. Watching him about to reach his destination, she sprinted without looking where she was going. As she was about to catch up, she accidentally bumped into a girl, and both of them groaned painfully at the same time.
Leng Yan instinctively turned his head and saw Wen Nuan fallen on the ground. The sharp pain in his heart overcame him, and without a second thought, he dropped his luggage and hurried over.
"I’m sorry," Wen Nuan apologized to the girl, tears streaming down her face.
She couldn’t tell if it was because of the pain or the realization that she could no longer catch up to him.
"Watch where you’re going!" The girl she bumped into was taller and received less impact. Bearing the pain, she stood up and gave Wen Nuan a discontented look. "It’s lucky you bumped into me. Did you see that pregnant woman in front of me? If you had hit her, you’d be in a lot more trouble."
"Yes, I’m sorry, truly sorry," Wen Nuan forced a bitter smile, her heart throbbing with pain.
Only after realizing that apart from the pain in her knees, there were no other discomforts, did she finally feel at ease. She gently rubbed her belly and tried to stand up.
She had really been reckless just now. If it weren’t for this girl, she would’ve forgotten that she was also a pregnant woman. Luckily, her child wasn’t fragile; otherwise, she would regret it for life.
"Nuannuan, are you okay?"
He softly called her name and held her up from behind, a look of tenderness filling his downcast eyes. "Why did you come here?"
Wen Nuan was momentarily stunned, and only after standing up did she realize it wasn’t her imagination. She lifted her head slightly and looked back at him. "Not running anymore?"
Leng Yan suddenly dared not meet her eyes. He turned his head slightly to the side, looking elsewhere. "There’s still a bit of time."
"That matter, you did it, didn’t you?" Wen Nuan gazed at his profile, letting out a cold laugh. "Leng Yan, do you want to make up for it with your favor to the Wen Family?"
She took a deep breath, gritting her teeth. "I won’t accept it! Who needs your help? Let me tell you, Leng Yan, no matter how you compensate, I’ll hate you! Hate you, understand? I won’t forgive you because of this!"
"I never expected your forgiveness." Leng Yan turned his gaze back, watching her eyes, which were brimming with tears of irritation and anger. His fingers gently raised, instinctively wanting to wipe her tears. Just as his thumb touched her face, it was harshly slapped away. "No need, keep your insincerity to yourself!"
No matter how much she cried in the future, she didn’t need his concern!
She wiped her tears with her hands haphazardly. She felt grateful that she wasn’t wearing makeup, otherwise, her face would be a mess. Staring closely into Leng Yan’s eyes, her beautiful lips curled into a faintingly sarcastic smile. "Why go to England? Shouldn’t a good father and man stay and accompany her?"
Her voice was extremely soft. In fact, ever since he came by her side, her shouting had completely stopped. Every word she said was light, even when she said she wouldn’t forgive him, though it was harsh, it was still softly spoken. It’s as if the running just now had drained much of her strength.
Leng Yan took a breath and said calmly, "I have something to temporarily deal with and won’t be away for too long. I’ll often call them to check in."
Wen Nuan’s strength was drawn once more, and the sneer on her face melted with the tears. She gently took a step back, glanced briefly at her belly, then lifted her head. "Let me ask you one more time. You really won’t choose me, will you?"
She didn’t know why she still harbored such wishful thinking to ask again, but since she had asked, she quietly waited for his answer. She looked at his eyes full of deep longing, and her light voice flowed between the two: "Did I ever have a chance to compete with her hope? If given one more chance to choose, would you give her up and choose me?"
Leng Yan was shocked, lowering his eyes to look at her.
Her fair face, with tears, made her eyes even darker and shinier than usual. Her sparkling pupils were filled with pleadings. Leng Yan felt his heart being gouged out, a cold wind howling through it, causing a bone-chilling sensation to invade every cell. He stared at her blankly for a long while, then slowly shook his head.
Wen Nuan’s fingertips tightly pinched her palm, the pain piercing her mind, bringing back a bit of sanity.
She must be crazy to ask him that, clearly seeking self-humiliation.
Leng Yan slightly tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Go back. Consider the money used for the Wen Family as a loan from me. You hate me, but you can’t joke with the Wen Family. Once things are on track, you can repay me."
But I won’t accept it.
In his deep-set eyes was an expression that was hard to decipher.
This money would not be received, and she would still receive another sum of funds.
Originating from his shares in Leng Family and Qingcheng Entertainment... He had already arranged everything, leaving some for Li Qiu, and the rest was hers.
"It’s almost boarding time; I have to go." His heart aching, unable to hold on any longer, a sharp pain pierced his heart as he turned to leave. "Take care!"
"Wait!"
Wen Nuan suddenly grabbed his wrist, forcing him to face her, hugging his waist tightly. Her belly pressed closely against his body. Leng Yan’s body froze slightly, his arm instinctively wrapped around her, only to be roughly pushed away as soon as he touched her.
She looked at him, a poignant smile crossing her lips. Waving her hand, the tears on her face had dried. "Go ahead."
Her hand instinctively caressed her still-flat belly, a deep sorrow engulfing her heart.
Just now, she merely wanted the child to feel his presence, to let the child know he/she had a father. Besides that, nothing else...
She would repay the money owed to him. As for the emotions he owed her, she wouldn’t accept any repayment. And the child would always be hers alone.
He really left. Wen Nuan slowly sat down on a chair, her tears once again pouring out as she leaned her dizzy head to one side.
"Young lady, even after a breakup, you have to take good care of yourself. Sometimes, it’s not worth it for a man," said a middle-aged woman passing a tissue to Wen Nuan while she was still dizzy.
Wen Nuan sat up straight and softly said, "Thank you." She wiped away her tears, her face still pale, her heart bitter, finding it difficult to try and smile politely at someone.
"Look at your pale face," the woman slightly frowned. "Are you feeling unwell?"
Before Wen Nuan could speak, the woman’s hand was already on her wrist, and Wen Nuan was startled to find the woman’s face even more surprised. "Pregnant?"
"..." Wen Nuan bit her lip tightly, looking at her somewhat bewilderedly.
"I’m a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. I can tell by checking your pulse." The middle-aged woman smiled gently, but then her brows furrowed again. "Is it that man just now? Oh, young people these days don’t know how to cherish relationships, do they?"
"I..." Wen Nuan sighed lightly, unsure of what to say. She was grateful for the concern from a stranger, but her heart was in turmoil, and she didn’t want to talk much.
Standing up to bid farewell to the middle-aged woman, she suddenly froze in shock at the sight of someone. "Joe? Why are you here too?"
