Chapter 49: Chapter 6: The World in the Dark Night 2
Bang bang bang!
A series of muffled gunshots rang out.
Su Ziyu suddenly rolled over, leaping off the roof, while behind him a massive tentacle descended from the sky, accompanied by a giant shadow that shattered the building behind him.
Rumble.
The colossal body of the Super Mutant crashed forward, causing the ground to tremble at its feet. This terrifying monster swung its mutated tentacle at Su Ziyu again, instantly wrapping his small frame. In excruciating pain, he was tightly squeezed, as if he would be crushed into a pulp in the next second.
"Damn it!"
"Why won’t this monster die!" Su Ziyu turned his head and saw Pasha lying not far away, sprawled out among the rubble, his fate uncertain. Nearby Brotherhood members had died or were injured, yet this terrifying monster remained unscathed. Any attack against it had no effect whatsoever.
Am I going to die again?
Su Ziyu swallowed the blood that surged up in his throat and fiercely bit down on the Super Mutant’s tentacle.
Even if I die, I will bite off a piece of your flesh!
The expected agonizing pain of being crushed did not arrive. Instead, in the haze, Su Ziyu seemed to hear a haunting whisper: "Do you want to defeat it?"
"Why not use the power within your body?"
"You have a power just like it inside you."
"Evil and powerful!"
"Accept it."
"Then you can defeat this monster."
A loud heartbeat echoed.
Su Ziyu panted heavily, as if his body suddenly held two hearts. A surge of frenzied power exploded from his flesh, causing his arms to rapidly swell in an instant. A horrifying brute force pried open the tentacles that bound him, and he heard a series of cracks within his bones, as if agreeing would grant him unparalleled strength in the next moment!
At that moment.
Su Ziyu’s expression was filled with hesitation and struggle. He panted heavily, suppressing the endless frenzy from deep within, suddenly roaring out: "No!"
He could not succumb.
Becoming a monster to kill another monster, eventually only replacing it as a new monster.
There must be another way.
There must be another way!
Why do all attacks fail? The Super Mutant cannot be so strong! Strong enough to ignore all damage!
There must be a way to kill it!!!
Su Ziyu panted heavily, fighting against the suppression of the mighty and frenzied evil power within, a power that made him deeply uneasy, as though a ferocious beast were trapped inside his body.
No.
I’ve already killed it!
Just on the rooftop earlier, I blew its head off with three shots from the Anti-Material Sniper Rifle!
This monster has already been killed by me.
Is this a dream?
Am I dreaming?
Everything around him froze in that instant, and Su Ziyu gently waved his hand. The massive, terrifying Super Mutant in front of him turned to dust, and all nearby figures slowly faded away. The ruins of the battleground transformed into the Void. A slender silhouette wrapped in a pitch-black Cloak appeared in the darkness and spoke in a haunting voice: "Human."
"Your will is strong!"
Jingle jingle.
A clear and pleasant sound of bells echoed as the slender silhouette in a black Cloak gazed at Su Ziyu, slowly saying: "I know you have many questions. But don’t ask them; He will hear."
"The night is His Domain, and the Dream Realm is His territory."
The mist gradually appeared.
The slender silhouette in a black Cloak looked up at the sky and murmured: "It’s almost dawn."
"If you want to leave here, meet me by the river at midnight tomorrow."
"Remember well."
"Don’t tell anyone what you saw at night."
"If you see someone looking very much like me during the day."
"Run!"
"Run as far as you can!"
The silhouette slowly vanished into the mist, and Su Ziyu reached out to stop her, but suddenly everything in the Dream Realm collapsed.
Huff huff huff.
Su Ziyu sat up, panting heavily, as the sky outside had already brightened slightly. He murmured: "Is this a dream? Who was that person? Was it the Witch here?"
"Did Jack say all Witches are crazy?"
"What is she saying?"
"Why should I run if I see someone like her during the day?"
"Damn it!"
"What on earth is happening here?"
Footsteps echoed from outside the door.
Su Ziyu suddenly snapped to attention, instantly placing his hand on the hilt of the knife at his waist, then he heard Pick’s voice— the Great Elf spoke in his characteristic booming voice: "You’re awake? I’m coming in!"
"Hungry?"
"We’ve prepared something for you to eat."
Pick emerged, comically topped with his large nose, carrying a bowl of aromatic mushroom soup, accompanied by some biscuits. He shouted: "Human! Can you fish?"
"Let’s fish today."
"There’s plenty of fish in the river here, and I’m the top fishing expert in town."
Pick’s face was unmarked by wrinkles as he chattered away. Even before Su Ziyu could respond, it was as if he had already agreed to fish together, and he started rambling on about what type of bait to use.
At this moment, Su Ziyu had no appetite.
He stood up and walked outside, where many Great Elves were already busy.
They looked exactly the same as they did during the day yesterday, their faces beaming with joyful and mischievous smiles, busily engaged with various tasks, occasionally laughing and playing around. If he hadn’t seen what happened at night, Su Ziyu would only think this was a fairy-tale-like idyllic village. But now, he only felt a chilling eeriness, and the Great Elves’ joyful, mischievous smiles reminded him of those weirdly smiling old faces on sunflowers.
"What’s wrong?"
"Don’t want to fish? Let’s do something else then." Pick continued to chatter behind Su Ziyu.
Su Ziyu felt slightly irritated at this moment.
This place was too eerie.
He recalled Jack’s words from the night and decided to test the waters by saying: "No, I think it’s time for me to leave."
The surroundings fell silent instantly.
The Great Elves who had been laughing, playing, and working suddenly froze in place, turning their heads bit by bit, stiffly like puppets, as if someone was twisting their necks, all turning uniformly to look at Su Ziyu.
At that instant, Su Ziyu felt his heartbeat skip.
"Oh, you speak?"
"What? You’re leaving?"
"Why not stay a couple more days? It’s been years since we’ve had visitors here!"
"Let us take good care of you!"
Pick kept chattering behind Su Ziyu, while Su Ziyu inexplicably sensed danger. He took a deep breath and nodded: "Alright. I’ll stay two more days."
"Great." Pick exclaimed happily.
As soon as he finished speaking.
The nearby Great Elves instantly reverted to their playful selves, continuing to work and play. Their faces all beamed with enthusiastic, joyful smiles, as if everything seen moments ago was merely an illusion.
"Let’s fish then."
"It’s said catching a Golden Carp in the river brings the Fairy’s blessing!" Pick continued to ramble.
