Wen Zhiyan spent most of the day handling the final matters entrusted to him by Uncle Fang.
It was already three in the afternoon when he returned to the company.
"Master Wen?"
"Pour me a cup of coffee."
"Yes, Master Wen."
While the coffee was being prepared, Xin Xuan also ordered some takeout.
"Sir, Third Master Wen called your office today."
"What did he say?"
This was what Xin Xuan found strange: "Third Master said he dialed by mistake and it didn't mean anything."
"Dialed by mistake?"
The bitterness of the coffee helped Wen Zhiyan shake off his drowsiness. "A landline can be dialed by mistake? When was this?"
"Around one in the afternoon."
Wen Zhiyan estimated the time. He had been at the crematorium then.
"Has anything unusual happened at the company today?"
"After your last reminder, Sir, I've been keeping a close watch on the company. There have been no anomalies."
Wen Zhiyan calmly stared at the coffee in his hand.
"Sir, did I miss something?"
"It's not your fault." Wen Zhiyan rubbed his forehead and waved him away.
After Xin Xuan left, he took out his phone.
"Did someone go to Yu Yuan?"
"How did you know, Master Wen? I was just about to call you. Third Master came by and stayed in the study with the Old Master for about ten minutes, then left in a huff."
"When?"
"Around one o'clock."
"Alright, thank you for the trouble."
After hanging up, Wen Zhiyan rubbed his nose bridge, his voice filled with exhaustion. "Third Brother, what are you trying to test? Don't disappoint me."
As he spoke, the office door opened.
Wen Zhiyan's lips curved upwards when he saw the two of them. "Miao Miao."
"Dad, you didn't call me."
"You haven't eaten, have you? Assistant Xin ordered some food for you, and I brought it up."
"Thank you, Miao Miao," Wen Zhiyan said, glancing behind the two of them.
"What is Dad looking at?"
"Didn't you say you were getting a dog?"
"Mhm." Wen Yan'an nodded vigorously, exchanged a look with Fang Miao Miao, and then stood before Wen Zhiyan. "Dad, I'm sorry."
A sense of foreboding instantly washed over him, and he then heard Wen Yan'an say, "Dad, we adopted two this time."
"Two?" Wen Zhiyan looked at Fang Miao Miao, who was trying to suppress a smile.
Fang Miao Miao coughed lightly and immediately said, "Let's eat, let's eat."
"An'an?" Wen Zhiyan couldn't bring himself to ask, so he turned to Wen Yan'an again.
"Dad, please don't be angry. It's mainly because the two of them had such a good relationship, we couldn't bear to separate them, so after discussing it for a while, we brought both of them back."
After speaking, Wen Yan'an decisively crossed the coffee table, ran to Wen Zhiyan's side, and looked up at him with teary eyes. "Dad."
Wen Zhiyan's heart softened, and he resignedly asked, "What breed are they?"
"Husky and Golden Retriever."
"Huskies and Golden Retrievers can play together?"
"Really." Wen Yan'an nodded vigorously and recounted what he had seen in detail.
After an unknown period of thought, Wen Zhiyan managed to utter one word: "Huskies are very energetic. Can you handle it?"
"Mom, Dad looks down on me." Wen Yan'an immediately sought reinforcement.
Fang Miao Miao: "..."
Good heavens, she felt like she was being set up by the little guy.
"Mom."
With a pleading tone and that adorable, innocent little face, she waved her hand grandly. "An'an, don't be afraid. Your dad is with me. Go play with the little ones."
"Thank you, Mom."
Wen Yan'an left Wen Zhiyan behind, blew a kiss towards Fang Miao Miao, and ran off.
"This little guy." Fang Miao Miao was taken aback by the gesture. "When did he learn to blow kisses?"
"Miao Miao?"
"What is it?" Fang Miao Miao met his dark, deep eyes and suddenly felt flustered. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Two puppies? A husky?"
"Ahem." Fang Miao Miao looked around evasively. "Since they're already here, we can't go back on our word and send them away. Besides, that husky is quite good-looking."
Especially those sapphire-like eyes, paired with the black and white fur, were simply stunning.
"By the way, what about Uncle Fang?"
"Don't worry, it's almost handled."
Someone's true colors were about to be revealed.
...
Ju Xiang Pavilion.
"The old man from the Fang family is really dead?"
"Why would I lie to you? That idiot from the Wen Zhi family went to ask himself."
The man behind the screen let out a sneer. "You're quite capable. Did the Wen Zhi family say what the old man from the Fang family said before he died?"
"No." The woman leaned against the wooden table bonelessly, dipping her finger into a teacup. She said indifferently, "The Wen Zhi family said the old man died suddenly. Perhaps not even Wen Zhiyan saw the old Fang family member's final moments."
"What about Wen Yan'an?"
The woman's finger paused, and she let out a light laugh. "What are you thinking? Wen Yan'an is a five-year-old child. How could the old man from the Fang family tell such a thing to a child? You might as well say the old man from the Fang family forgave Wen Renhe."
"Moreover, even if we take a step back and assume the old man from the Fang family told Wen Yan'an, so what? There's no evidence, is there? All the evidence disappeared with that fire."
The man behind the screen was silent for a moment after hearing this. "It's still better to be cautious."
"Don't worry, I know this better than you."
If this matter were exposed, she wouldn't die but would be sent to prison for life. She wasn't willing to give up her current wealth and status.
"Anything else?"
The woman yawned. "Is there anything else? Go ahead."
"For the time being, don't meet up. Your next task is to get the Wen Zhi family to start interfering in the affairs of Wen Corporation."
The woman's body stiffened. "Are you sure?"
"Why wouldn't I be sure? Wen Corporation shouldn't have existed five years ago. It was founded by Wen Renhe, so it should be ended by his most beloved son."
"Wen Zhi family?"
"Don't ask what you shouldn't ask."
The woman pouted. "As if I'm interested."
With that, the woman got up and left the private room.
"Third Madam."
The woman glanced at the server. "Alright, go do what you need to do."
As the server was about to leave, the woman called out to her. "Wait a moment."
"Has Third Master Wen brought anyone here to eat recently?"
"No. I don't know why, but Third Master Wen hasn't come to our Ju Xiang Pavilion lately. We've all been wondering if the food doesn't suit his taste."
The woman nodded, took out five banknotes from her bag. "Consider that you haven't seen me today."
The server gratefully accepted the money and smiled obsequiously. "Madam, don't worry, I know nothing."
"Good child."
The woman gently patted the server's face, put on her sunglasses, and swayed away.
