Chapter 42: The Visit (1)
A week had passed since Mikyle had taken Adrien out on their first official date, and since then, he had found himself growing even closer to the cat-like boy. He would spend his free time hanging out with Adrien just as he had always done. They would study in the library, take their meals in the cafeteria, or hold conversations in Adrien’s room where they would discuss an array of topics.
The one thing that had changed was that Mikyle now found that he was unable to hold himself back when it came to physical contact. He would find himself carding his fingers through Adrien’s hair or gently touching his hand with small caresses. And on more than one occasion, he would take Adrien’s lips in his own in tender yet passionate kisses.
And that was the action he found himself in now.
Adrien’s lean and slender body sat atop his lap, and his fingers were digging into Mikyle’s shoulders. Mikyle had one arm snaked around Adrien’s waist, supporting him from the back. The hand of his other arm was wrapped in Adrien’s soft hair, gently pulling him closer. Adrien’s eyes were closed and his face was red. His breathing was quick and hurried, as if he couldn’t catch it.
Adrien’s breath fanned against him as Mikyle slipped his tongue inside the warm, hot cavern, quickly finding Adrien’s tongue, which had been urgently looking for Mikyle’s tongue. Mikyle allowed for the soft, wet muscle to greedily suck on his tongue before dominating it in a quickly won battle.
A small "Mmph!" escaped from Adrien’s mouth, leaving Mikyle wanting to hear more.
Just then a small ringing noise sounded out from Mikyle’s pants. His brows furrowed together in agitation as Adrien broke away from their kiss.
"What is that?" Adrien’s head tilted cutely to the side as his eyes, which were slightly red and moist, narrowed onto Mikyle’s pocket.
"A Portal Communicator," he answered naturally and confidently, acting as if he hadn’t just spilled top secret information. "It’s a special device only available to the royal family at the current moment," the lie flowed naturally from his lips, making his heart sting just a little at his untruthfulness.
Mikyle watched with great regret as Adrien slid off his lap and onto the seat beside him. A puzzled expression was on Adrien’s face, and Mikyle could see his lips moving as he silently mumbled something to himself.
"I’ll be right back," Mikyle told Adrien as he left for his room. Once he was inside, Mikyle answered the device, his voice dripping with annoyance. "What?"
Henry, who was in the middle of getting ready to say something, paused for a second. "We found a lead on who attacked Lady Lianna," he reported, "We have the main suspect in our care but he is unwilling to cooperate."
Mikyle released a sigh. He slid a hand through his hair. "I’ll be there shortly."
. . . .
A Portal Communicator? Only available to the Velron Royal Family? I thought that it was developed by Dor-Shey Da’at and was only used by their higher-ups around this time?
Mikyle entered his room just then. "Something has come up." He leaned down and pressed a kiss to Adrien’s temple, finding the action natural. "I promise to return by the end of the day."
"Kay," Adrien mumbled, his thoughts still on the puzzle that was the Portal Communicator. Adrien was even barely aware of the door shutting as Mikyle left for the final time as his thoughts started to work out a shocking and unsuspecting answer to the puzzle that was currently before him.
If the Portal Communicator was actually developed by Dor-Shey Da’at as the book claimed and there was actually a hidden boss behind the information guild as Nathaniel had originally guessed. . .does that mean that Mikyle might be connected to the secret boss? No, it surprisingly makes more sense for him to be the secret boss. He was far smarter and stronger than what he let on. But if he is the boss, then why did he approach me? Was it simply because of the strange attraction between us? And if so, wouldn’t it make more sense for him to keep his distance? Wait. . .does this mean he knows everything about Adrien Mallorne? I mean, there’s no way he would have jumped into a relationship without gathering entail on me first, right?
Adrien felt a headache coming on as question after question kept popping up. He rubbed the sides of his temples as a groan escaped his lips. "Ah, forget it! Thinking about it is only going to make me spiral. Besides, if he really is the Guild Master, wouldn’t that just be beneficial to me since he’s my boyfriend?"
Adrien decided to quit questioning everything and decided to see it in a positive light. Besides, he’s too great of a kisser to dump him over some speculation that has no conclusive evidence.
"Wow, I think I’m turning into my sister," he chuckled quietly, amused with himself.
Adrien glanced over at the wall clock and felt his mouth drop open. "Shit! I need to get ready if I want to meet my parents on time!" He paused as he realized how strange that sentence felt to him. He was still getting used to the fact that he had parents in this life, even if his father was a complete bastard.
He shook off the daze he was feeling and quickly got ready. He then rushed out of the dorm and headed to the visitor drop-off area. His parents’ carriage had just pulled up by the time he arrived.
The Countess was the first to exit the carriage.
"Mother," Adrien called to her fondly as he helped her down, imitating the way Mikyle had helped him.
"Thank you, My Dear." The smile on the Countess’ face was warm and loving, and there was less strain in it and around her eyes than the last time he had seen her.
The Count came out of the carriage next, his long hair was tied in the back by a black ribbon. "I reserved a table for us. We have an hour before we should depart from here," the Count informed them in his usual, gruff manner.
The Countess linked her arm through Adrien’s. "Shall we take a look at your dorm?"
Adrien nodded. He then looked behind the Count and Countess and realized that Nadeline wasn’t with them. He briefly wondered if something had happened to the girl. She should have sent him a letter informing about successfully selling off one of his paintings but he had found out about it first when he saw the painting hanging up in the Ceciles’ manor. Maybe something had come up that is keeping her from reporting to him?
The three of them slowly walked back to his dorm. He was hit by a momentary wave of embarrassment when he opened the door and realized that his room wasn’t as clean as it should have been.
The room was actually relatively clean, especially when considering that the owner was a teenage boy. It was just slightly messy. His paint supplies were laid out instead of put away since he had been working on a painting the night before. His violin was placed in the corner in its case instead of being stored properly. There were also a pair of sparring gloves haphazardly laying on the table.
Sparring gloves? I don’t own any-
Adrien realized that Mikyle must have left a pair of his gloves sometime after one of his classes. He felt his eyes widen slightly when he realized that the Countess’ eyes lingered on them for a second.
She probably realized they weren’t mine, and that they were far too large to belong to one of my brothers. Wait, do they know that I’m dating Mikyle? Has word of our relationship spread that far? Adrien cast a quick, worried glance at the Count and sighed with relief. There’s no way that man would be acting this well-behaved if it had. I can’t imagine he would take the news of having a gay son very well.
"It’s clean and well-kept. Far better than what Cedric and Brayden’s rooms were like when we visited them last year."
The Count gave a brief, imperceptible nod. "Adrien has always been tidier than his brothers."
The Count’s words shocked Adrien enough to make him stumble. The Count knows how to play nice?! Adrien then remembered the few memories that the original had of when the Count and Countess were in the same room together. The Count had always seemed much calmer and had even talked more than normal when the Countess was around.
"Is this for a school project?" The Countess asked, taking a closer look at the painting Adrien had been working on.
"No. We did have one this week but I’ve already finished and handed it in."
The conversation fell away after that and Adrien was starting to feel suffocated. He wasn’t sure how to react around these two, nor did he know how to overcome the anxiety that original felt when around them.
