Chapter 46: A Perplexing Turn of Events (3)

Mikyle started walking towards the boys’ dormitory in a hurried pace, hoping that Adrien was back from his dinner with his parents. At the thought of Adrien, a strange tugging sensation pulled at his heart. Mikyle’s steps faltered before slowing down to a snail’s pace as he placed a hand over his heart.

As he examined himself, the pulling sensation disappeared. It had happened so suddenly that Mikyle thought that he had been imagining things. He inwardly shook his head, perplexed at himself, though he chalked everything up to the Mana exhaustion that he was still feeling.

He started walking again, though a little bit slower than the speed he had initially been walking before. His thoughts began to wander back to Adrien. He was hoping that Adrien’s dinner had gone smoothly without any problems.

He had noticed how nervous his kitten had been growing with each passing day as the dinner with the Count and Countess drew nearer. It was to the point that Mikyle had started to wonder how Adrien’s relationship with his parents was.

Over the past week, Mikyle had learned many things about Adrien. Like how Adrien had a fondness for orange tea and a craving for spicy dishes and seafood. Or how the boy had a penchant for being engrossed in whatever book he was reading, or the distant and dreamy expression he would wear while he was drawing. Or how he would rub his earlobe whenever he was embarrassed.

But out of everything he had learned about Adrien from either watching him or by Adrien talking about himself, the Count and Countess never came up for discussion, not even once. And that had Mikyle worried that Adrien might not be on the best of terms with his parents.

And that worry was what was driving Mikyle to find Adrien, that and the fact that he just really wanted to bask in Adrien’s presence while he was mentally and physically exhausted.

A strong tugging sensation pulled on his heart once again. It was so strong that it made Mikyle stumble. It was also strong enough that he couldn’t dismiss it this time.

What is this?

Mikyle came to a stop once again. He focused his attention on his heart and poured a tiny amount of Mana into it to use for explorative purposes. He did not find any foreign Mana or any other outside forces affecting his heart. In fact, he couldn’t find anything wrong with it. And what was even more troubling was the fact that he wasn’t feeling that strange tugging anymore.

I wonder why that is? What was I doing when I felt it both times? Physically, I was walking. Mentally, I was thinking about something, no, not something but someone.

Mikyle kept pouring his Mana into his heart, but this time, he allowed for his thoughts to drift back to Adrien. As soon as he did so, that strange tugging pulled at his heart once more, but this time, Mikyle could feel that it was pulling in a certain direction almost as if it were trying to lead him somewhere.

Hmm? I guess I should follow it for now since that’s the quickest way to figure out whatever this is.

Very slowly, Mikyle followed in the direction the tugging on his heart was guiding him to. At the same time, he allowed for his mind to drift toward thoughts of Adrien, which amplified the effect of the tugging on his heart.

He was slowly led past the boys’ dormitory and the small lake that was more like a large pond that the Academy had built soon came into view. The lake had a walkway that surrounded the entire lake, while a bridge had been built going across the center of the lake. In the middle of the bridge was a small sitting area with benches lining the wall. On the other side of the lake were the faculty buildings.

The tugging led him down a walkway that outlined the lake, instead of taking him towards the bridge. He had walked a little over fifteen meters when the tugging had suddenly veered towards the woods. Mikyle looked down at the ground and saw that the grass had been trampled constantly, turning it into a path of sorts. He could see multiple shoe impressions pressed into the ground and they were of different sizes indicating that multiple people had traversed this path that day.

Mikyle kept half of his attention on the footpath as he followed the tugging. He soon came to a small clearing where a creek ran through.

Is this an outlet river–or creek from the lake? It must have naturally formed as a way for the lake to drain after the rainy season.

His eyes were then drawn to the person standing in front of the creek. His back was to Mikyle and his close were drenched in sweat. Mikyle could feel small waves of Mana rising from him without being released.

Mikyle stopped the flow of Mana that he had been pouring into his heart and leaned his back against the tree. So, the tugging sensation led me to Adrien. I was wondering if that was the case since the tugging sensation only appeared when I thought of Adrien. But why? Why was I feeling this sensation that was acting as a beacon guiding me to my destination?

Mikyle’s head titled in thought as he watched Adrien try and fail to release his Mana. Does this have something to do with me inheriting the Dragon’s legacy? If so, then why did it appear now? Can I find anyone this way, or is it just Adrien?

Mikyle reigned his thoughts back in and closed his eyes. He then turned his thoughts to his mother. He imagined her sitting in the garden having tea. The sun was shining down on her blonde hair, turning it into a radiant gold.

When he did not feel a tugging sensation radiating out from his heart, he then turned his thoughts onto the other members of his family.

He opened his eyes with a sigh when nothing came of the experiment. It seems to only happen when I think of Adrien. But again, why now when it hadn’t happened before? Is it because we are closer now?

They certainly were closer now. The last time he had been trying to find Adrien, he had yet to kiss him. But this past week, he hadn’t been far from his little kitten except for when they were in different classes, and he had been finding every chance he could in their free time to kiss the boy.

Then, does that mean Adrien has some kind of connection with the dragon Velron? I really need to get my hands on Velron’s journal.

They had a break coming up in two months, right after the Fall festival. The Fall festival was an event held three months after the Academy started and was held right before their week-long break. The festival hosted several events from the Academy’s two departments. The students from the Art Department would host a play and several concerts on the first two days of the festival, while the students of the Physical Department would host competitions in martial arts and swordsmanship.

Mikyle’s red gaze landed on Adrien once again, taking in his smaller frame as it inhaled and exhaled rather deeply. Mikyle’s fingers twitched with the urge to touch Adrien, but he held off for now.

If Adrien really does have a connection with the dragon, what could it be? What could cause me to have this strange instinct that can guide me to his location? And does it have something to do with the lustful heat that I feel whenever I am near him?

Mikyle’s eyes sprung wide open and his body stiffened when a particular sentence from a book about the Ancient Kings sprung to the forefront of his mind. The text had been an overview of each species that the Ancient Kings belonged to. And this particular sentence belonged to the section about Velron and the other dragons. It was said that each dragon possessed a mate that was bound to them. The dragon could only feel attraction to their mate and vice versa, and it was also said that the dragon was always aware of its mate’s location.

Mikyle’s eyes instinctively focused on Adrien and the rise and fall of his chest. His heart sped up and his fingers clenched tightly enough that his nails dug into the palm of his hands.

Could that be what this is? Is Adrien my mate? Is that what it really meant when Velron foretold of someone from the royal family gaining his inheritance?

Mikyle groaned, suddenly wishing he hadn’t come to that conclusion. It was hard enough as it was to not take things any further. He had been doing everything he could to hold himself from progressing their kissing sessions into something. . .more intimate.

Should I just skip a couple days of school and search for that journal now?

Before he could ruminate on that thought any further, Adrien’s breathing became ragged and his shoulders slumped. He also became unsteady on his feet as he swayed back and forth.

Mikyle shot forward without a second thought and wrapped his arms around Adrien to support him. "How long have you been out here to make yourself like this?" He found himself growling in irritation, though he was more irritated at himself for not realizing how exhausted Adrien actually was.
