Lin Fan furrowed his brows and said, "Don't move, the needle almost missed."
"Xiao Fan, I heard someone calling you."
The old man chuckled, a hint of embarrassment on his face.
Lin Fan glanced at Wang Ying and said, "Sister Wang Ying, take the food upstairs. You eat first. I'll come up after I finish with this patient."
"Okay." Wang Ying looked at him, so serious, and felt both touched and pained.
...
He was busy until past two in the afternoon before Lin Fan finally saw off the last of his patients.
He stood up and stretched, suddenly feeling weak and lightheaded.
How could he be so hungry?
"Sister Wang Ying!"
Lin Fan called out and then went upstairs.
In the living room on the second floor, Wang Ying was sitting blankly, guarding a large spread of food, waiting for Lin Fan.
Lin Fan walked up behind her and asked, "Sister Wang Ying, why aren't you eating?"
"I, I wanted to wait for you to eat together."
Wang Ying's mood was a little down. She added, "I can't help you with anything, how could I dare to eat first?"
"Why are you so silly?" Lin Fan gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "Your being here makes me very happy."
"When I'm happy, I have more energy to see patients. Isn't that helping me?"
Hearing Lin Fan say this, Wang Ying's spirits immediately lifted.
"Eat quickly."
Lin Fan was famished and didn't care about his image at all.
He sat down and grabbed a chicken leg, devouring it.
Wang Ying watched him eat with gusto, her bright eyes curving into a smile like two new moons.
"Don't just watch me. You must be hungry too. Eat."
"Mm."
Though the food was simple, they both ate with more joy than the other.
When you're with someone you like, everything tastes delicious!
After they finished eating, another wave of patients arrived at the clinic.
Lin Fan treated patients downstairs, while Wang Ying tidied up the rooms upstairs.
Although she couldn't help but complain about Lin Fan's messiness, she still felt happy in her heart.
Soon, the sun began to set, and the patients left one after another.
Wang Ying clutched her handbag and said to Lin Fan, "Xiao Fan, it's getting late. I, I'm going back."
She kept her head down, and her expression was unreadable.
Lin Fan walked up to her and smirked, "Really going back?"
"Mm."
Wang Ying nodded, her tone lacking any firmness.
Lin Fan slung an arm around her waist. "Missy, where do you think you're going!"
"What are you doing?"
Wang Ying feigned shyness and resistance, but her heart was full of joy.
She had come all this way, wasn't it to spend time with the person she loved?
But Lin Fan had been so busy, and she couldn't lend a hand.
As it was getting dark, if she stayed any longer, it would seem as if she had come here specifically for... certain activities.
So, after much thought, she felt she should make her stance clear, at least to show she wasn't that kind of woman.
Lin Fan cupped her delicate face and chuckled, "Sister Wang Ying, isn't it a bit late to decide to leave now?"
"I have to go home. It's not convenient to drive at night."
"Then don't go home!"
Lin Fan finished speaking and simply swept her into his arms.
"What are you doing? Put me down."
Wang Ying, holding her small fists, lightly patted Lin Fan's back a few times.
Lin Fan ignored her and carried her directly into the inner room, placing her on the bed.
"Honestly, if we delay any longer, it'll really be dark."
Wang Ying pouted her lips, pretending to be annoyed.
"Sister Wang Ying, stay with me a little longer."
Lin Fan wasn't new to dealing with women; how could he not know her intentions?
"Why are you keeping me here?"
Wang Ying suddenly thought of something and asked, "Right, you told me last time that your family's house had been demolished and was being rebuilt. Where will you stay tonight?"
"I'll stay here," Lin Fan patted the edge of the bed. "I live alone, so there's plenty of space, right?"
"Oh, no wonder it's so messy."
Wang Ying blurted out unconsciously.
"You all are the same," Lin Fan replied unconsciously.
Wang Ying immediately became alert. "Who am I the same as?"
Women were always particularly sensitive about such things.
"My sister-in-law. She sometimes tidies up my place, and she also nags about these things."
Lin Fan remained expressionless as he gently removed Wang Ying's white shoes.
"Why are you taking off my shoes?"
"To give you a foot massage."
Lin Fan drew her delicate legs towards him, cradling them in his arms, and chuckled, "Now you can't leave, can you?"
Wang Ying let out a soft huff. "So annoying!"
She tapped Lin Fan's head and then said, "I came all the way here, and I haven't had a chance to look around. Are you planning to lock me in the clinic and not let me out the door?"
Lin Fan shrugged. "It's just a small mountain village, what's there to see?"
Wang Ying thought for a moment and asked, "Right, I heard there's a Luofeng Mountain around here, quite famous. Is it in your village?"
Lin Fan nodded. "Yes, our village is called Luofeng Village."
"But it's not some grand mountain or majestic river."
"Besides, it's remote, and no one really comes here."
Wang Ying swayed her legs and pouted like a little girl, "Just take me to see it!"
"It's late at night. Don't let the wild wolves in the mountains carry you away."
"If anything, they'd carry you away. You have more meat, and you're bigger."
"No matter how much meat I have, it's no match for thick skin. You're different, so fragrant and soft. The wolves won't be stupid, haha!"
"They'll carry *you* away!"
Wang Ying looked at Lin Fan with captivating charm, pouting her lips. "It's still early, let's eat something and then go for a stroll."
Lin Fan sighed softly. "Alright, let's go take a look then."
Lin Fan felt a bit sorry for her, so he agreed.
He figured that after her divorce, she was alone and had no one to talk to.
He wasn't with her most of the time, so he should try to fulfill her wishes whenever possible.
And so, under the bright moonlight, they slowly walked towards Luofeng Mountain.
Wang Ying looked blissfully happy, leaning against Lin Fan the entire way.
Lin Fan put his arm around her and reminisced, "There's a ditch here. When I was little, whenever there was a heavy rain, a bunch of small fish and loaches would appear from somewhere. They were so easy to catch."
"I could always catch a basinful and take it home for my sister-in-law to fry. It was so delicious."
Lin Fan had nothing else to talk about, so he started recounting his childhood memories.
Unexpectedly, Wang Ying listened with great interest, occasionally asking for details.
For example, were such small fish troublesome to clean?
Were loaches so slippery that they were difficult to catch?
Since the ditch only had water during heavy rains, why not wait for the water to dry up and catch them all at once?
Had he ever thought about checking upstream?
Wang Ying asked many similar questions.
Lin Fan could answer some, while others he had never even considered.
In reality, Wang Ying wasn't really seeking answers to these questions.
All she wanted was to keep walking with Lin Fan like this, talking and laughing, forever!
